Two green eyes shone in the early morning darkness near the entrance of the apprentices den. Lightningpaw lay on his back, yawning and trying to figure out what he wanted to do. He was SO excited, he was finally an apprentice!! Rolling back over onto his stomach, he caught sight of his two brothers and sister beside him. He knew they were just as excited, but he just couldn't sleep. Getting to his feet, he nudged Maplepaw with a paw. He probably shouldn't wake her...but he wanted to learn the good places to hunt and such..and it helped ot have a friend. And Maplepaw was nice! "Uhh...Maplepaw?" he asked quietly, blinking with a slow smile on his face.

Woodpaw opened his eyes wearily. It was earlier than he usually woke up, but he'd gone to sleep early the previous night. Looking about the den, he blinked in surprise at how many cats there were, then remembered the apprentice ceremony the day before. Not too long ago, when he was a lonely kit, he would have been thrilled to have so many new denmates; now, however, he was a bit more nervous. It was mainly, he supposed, out of the fear that the others would see how clumsy and stupid he was, and look down on him rather than up to him - though it was also he'd gotten used to the den being occupied by only himself, Maplepaw, and Tussockwind before he was made a warrior. Seeing so many new faces was different for him. He thought he'd heard a voice near the entrance, though he couldn't make it out. Blinking, he stood up. "Lightningpaw?" he called, gritting his teeth when he realized how loud he'd spoken. Remember the time, mouse-brain!

Leaves rustled underfoot as she ran through the forest. Every movement was swift and graceful, every stride long and powerful. There was no familiar ache in her leg from the old injury holding her back. Then she stumbled over a tree root and rather ungracefully tumbled into a bramble bush. She could feel something digging into her side and then perhaps somebody calling her name...?
Maplepaw's dream dissolved and she blinked her light amber eyes slowly. It took her a moment to recognise who it was that was staring at her with a smile on his face. The marking around his eye was a giveaway and she returned Lightningpaw's smile. "Good morning. Are we late for something?" She didn't think she had dawn patrol and Hawkstar hadn't mentioned any training...So why was Lightningpaw waking her up so early!
"Where?!" Heronpaw squealed, suddenly raising his head up from his paws. He quickly looked around the den, his blue eyes blinking slowly. No lightning...just Lightningpaw. He yawned loudly and stood up, arching his back. He dug his claws into the moss that lined his bedding and flexed them, eager for a day of hunting. It was a little early but that meant the could possibly tag along with the dawn patrol. "Morning!" he meowed happily to his slowly waking denmates. "What are we doing today?"

Lightningpaw glanced over his shoulder, seeing Woodpaw. He nodded to him, if it was visible in the darkness, afraid to speak incase he woke anyone else up. He turned back to see Maplepaw awake and smiled sheepishly. "Uh..er, no... I wanted to know..well...is it too early?" he asked quietly, looking down in embarassment and scuffling his paws. Maybe he had been too excited....He jumped slightly as he ehard his brother, glancing to him and sighing. Well now everyone was awake...

Woodpaw jumped at the sudden call, stumbling backward over his mossy nest and landing clumsily on the den floor. Slowly, he shook his head to clear it, then peered upward to see who else had woken up. Heronpaw The tan apprentice pulled himself up, shaking dust from his short pelt. He wasn't sure whether or not to be annoyed - Heronpaw had startled him, sure, but it was probably Woodpaw who'd woken him up in the first place with his inconsiderate, loud voice. He wondered what Heronpaw had been reacting to, but decided against asking. He could earn himself a reputation as a clumsy mouse-brain without being known as a nosy, annoying kit as well. "Good morning," he mewed politely, hoping that the others would quickly forget his latest mistake. Feeling that he needed to say something intelligent to compensate, he tried to remember what was typical for an apprentice to do during his first few days of training. "You might get to..." Probably no different than what I'm doing. "We might... I dunno." He shook his head, sighing.

Maplepaw rolled her eyes. Toms. Couldn't catch a mouse if it was under their paws. "It is a little early but that just means you'll have more time for training. Typically, new apprentices are shown around the territories and introduced to the borders." She smiled and glanced at Lightningpaw. "But obviousily you are already familiar with the old Twoleg nest."
Heronpaw frowned, ignoring Woodpaw. It was well known that the tan apprentice was oddly clumsy. To be honest, he was a little dissapointed that they were only going on a walk around the territory. "So...we're not going hunting?" he asked, trying cover his disappointment. He had to appear strong in front of his denmates, or so he believed.
"Wha' 'bout hunting?" Littlekit yawned, blinking his big green eyes slowly. For some daft mouse-brained reason everybody was awake already and there was barely any sunlight! Littlekit strongly believed in sleep. Not that he was lazy, but just that he got a tad grumpy if hadn't enough sleep. But then on grumpy was his main mood.

"Um, yeah," Woodpaw muttered as Maplepaw explained the training of the new apprentices. "What she said. " I knew that! Though his own situation had been slightly different due to the fact that his mentor was away during the first few days of his training, it should have been common sense to know that a tour of the territory was typical for a new apprentice on his first day. So much for acting like a mentor. However, his annoyance was forgotten as he was suddenly struck by something the tabby she-cat had said. He looked between the four apprentices who were now awake, his fur prickling in surprise, but his gaze finally landed on Maplepaw. "... Wait! Who's been to the old Twoleg nest? Whaa - ?" He tipped his head in confusion. Though he'd never been there himself, he had seen the old nest on RainClan territory from a distance - and it had looked rather creepy.

Goldenpaw woke from the roar of mews around the den. She blinked a few times nd kept her mouth shut, until she had to yawn. Her yawn extended her jaw. Goldenpaw's eyes were wide awake but looked pale. Her ginger coat was still nicely groomed from the apprentice ceremony. Goldenkit's paw were kind of filled with dirt though. Her mouth didn't say one peep. Her eyes focused on her paws at the moment.

Lightningpaw felt his face heat up and he smiled sheepishly, his tail twitching in a sign of embarassment. "Well...yeah...Sorry for waking you so early Maplepaw. Seems everyone's awake now..." he said, looking around the den at all the sleepy-eyed but anxious cats. He caught his brother's disappointment and rolled his eyes. He was just excited about doing something! And as he heard the confusion in Woodpaw's voice, he flinched then looked to him. "Yeah...we kinda snuck out and explored the Twoleg nest."

Goldenpaw looked at her brother with a glare. He knows he has done a lot of things wrong and thinks he can become a warrior, or atleast a good apprentice easily! she thought. "Can you stop your excitment and maybe if your going to talk loudly get out of the den!" Goldenpaw's first words that had been spoken right now were somewhat harsh. Maybe I took it too far

You're kidding me! Woodpaw clenched his teeth, annoyed. Lightningpaw and his siblings had been places he'd never been, had adventures without him - and as kits, at that. He remembered his own excursion to the Maple Grove a few moons ago - nothing compared to where these apprentices had been. It just wasn't fair. Not only that, but Lightningpaw seemed somewhat embarrassed that the others were even awake. Woodpaw felt horrible, as if he'd interrupted something that hadn't meant to be interrupted. "Sorry if I bothered you," he muttered. The jealousy prickled through, however, and his voice came out with a slightly bitter undertone. Realizing this, he rapidly tried to fix his mistake. "No, I didn't want to sound mean like that!" he squealed, his voice coming out louder than he'd intended it to once more - remembering Goldenpaw's accusation moments before, he wanted to bury his face in his paws. He was the loud one! "I'm really sorry; I... I... Oh, never mind." He slumped to the ground, shaking his head.

Maplepaw gave Woodpaw a playful nudge with her nose. "Oh come on! It's okay. If I remember rightly you went sneaking out to the Maple Grove. Much more dangerous than the Twoleg Nest." Her voice hinted at a story to be told and her eyes were wide and glittering.
Heronpaw had been about to blurt out that the old Twoleg Nest was much more dangerous because they met a rogue but he quickly held his tongue. They got in enough trouble with their mother and Lichenpelt without them knowing that.
Littlepaw sat up and gave another huge yawn. His white fur was ruffled in places from his sleep unlike his siblings smooth coats. "How about you be quiet Goldenpaw? I want to hear what Maplepaw has to say. Don't you know that she was there when those rogues attacked Owlfoot, Honeyfrost and then Hawkstar!"

Goldenpaw looked at her paws. Guilty that she was even to have a mouth. Her life was nothing. All cats had enjoyed her absent. She stood up and ran out the den. Looking at the sun and opening her mouth slightly. Why Starclan! Why! she wanted to scream it, but her low tone and small mouth wouldn't let her. All her other denmates had bigger mouths then her. She always had to be the good one. She just wanted to go, forever in a dark den, for her to sleep, thousands of seasons. She wanted to go put her head in a ditch then bury it. Her life meant nothing, nothing at all, it was a waste of Owlfoot's time to take the time and train her clumsy paws.

Woodpaw still doubted the Grove was more dangerous and exciting than the creepy Twoleg nest, but he was glad for Maplepaw's encouragement. He might have begun his own story, were it not for Littlepaw's interruption. Maplepaw had been at the big battle with the rogues that Woodpaw had only heard stories about - now that sounded like a story to tell. He stared downward, feeling somewhat dejected at how worthless his own story suddenly seemed, and wondering whether he would ever have the skill to fight in his own battles. At his current level of ability, he doubted it. He sighed and looked up, suddenly realizing that the den didn't seem quite as full as it had before. "Hey, did someone leave already?" he asked suddenly, looking around. Pulling himself to his feet, he cocked his head slightly. ... Goldenpaw! She was here a second ago! But why had she left - was she going out in hopes of finding her mentor already?

Lightningpaw looked to Woodpaw, seeing his reaction to his telling of their journey to the Twoleg nest. He frowned, nudging the older apprentice slightly. "Being stuck with Heronpaw and Littlepaw in the nursery all the time, we had to do something. But you went to the Grove! You have to tell me about it sometime!" he whispered, his frown turning to a smile of encouragement before looking back to Maplepaw. "Yeah, please tell us!"

Maplepaw glanced up as Goldenpaw left the den. Doesn't she want to here the story? "Bye!" she called out before turning back to the other apprentices. Heronpaw hadn't battered an eye at his sister's departure but Littlepaw seemed a little more startled and concerned. If he wasn't so interested in hearing the story he would of followed her. "Woodpaw can tell you his story later but this one happened...oh, probably a few seasons before his outing. Now, you all know Owlfoot right?" Heronpaw snorted. "The deputy. Of course." The ginger tabby rolled his eyes. "Just checking. Anyway, Owlfoot had a brother called Robinclaw. One day Robinclaw went missing on patrol. Nobody could find him anyway." She paused for suspense and looked at each of the apprentices in the eye. Heronpaw stared back boldly while Littlepaw simply frowned. "Did he get taken by twolegs?" Heronpaw asked. "No," Maplepaw meowed, shaking her head. "But Lichenpelt did. You don't know it. But she actually returned to camp the day you were born!"

Goldenpaw was afraid to even be around one of the apprentices. She hated this world. No cat listened to her, her mouth always shut and her eyes always open though. She was always the good cat. "Littepaw," she whispered. She new he was following her. She turned around. She looked at his with a worried look. "I can't take this," she meowed, sighing. "Why doesn't anyone care for the one with the small sence of mouth." she asked. Her head started shaking, still looking at his face. "Help me," she whispered.
ooc; I love roleplaying her! This how I acted when I broke up with my boyfriend! He's a jerk anyway, but I still liked him! xP I love her, She'll probably go blind sometime in her life though. but I haven't decided, this is just her character xP

Lightningpaw wrapped his tails around his paws, listening quietly as Maplepaw and his brothers spoke. He noticed Goldenpaw get up and leave and he frowned. He was never sure what to say to his sister, he loved her, he really did, but she was just one cat he never completely connected with. As Maplepaw said the last thing, his eyes widened and his head cocked in wonder. "So how was she gone? And what happened to Owlfoot's brother?" he asked, lost in his interest.

Maplepaw smiled slyly. "Lichenpelt went looking for Robinclaw when he went missing on patrol. But she never came back to camp. Some cats had believe they had ranaway from the Clan to be rogues or loners. Nobody knew what had happened." She paused again for suspense. Heronpaw leaned forward. "Both of them went missing?" he whispered in awe. Maplepaw nodded slowly. "Mother and son. Gone from the Clan just like that. Owlfoot was the only one left. Everybody thought he had something to do with it but he had no idea either."
---
As Maplepaw continued telling her story, Littlepaw sat at the edge of the den looking out at Goldenpaw. He never really understand his sister. She seemed to wallowing in self-pity. He susposed that was why Heronpaw always ignored her. Probably hated her as well. "Come inside," he called softly, his voice showing a hint of expaseration. "Your missing the story by sulking. I thought you liked stories?" He tilted his head in an inquiring way. Littlepaw had no idea what his sister was meowing about. He never did.
---
"And then, Robinclaw was found. In the centre of the Mapel Grove." Mapelpaw's voice was dark and Heronpaw felt a chill run down his spine. "W-was Robinclaw...okay?" Face unmoving, the ginger tabby shook her head again. "He was dead. His corpse rotting and the stench of badger hanging in the air." "Owlfoot found him," she whispered.

Lightningpaw already had a sinking feeling his stomach when Maplepaw mentioned that both mother and son disappeared. Lichenpelt was here, but Robinclaw wasn't. That could only mean one thing. "He was dead. His corpse rotting and the stench of badger hanging in the air." Lightningpaw closed his eyes, wincing at the thought of it. "Poor Owlfoot..." he murmured. "And where did Lichenpelt go?"

Goldenpaw shook her head. "They all hate me, trust me, I have no right to sleep in there. You can, and to tell you the truth, I do like stories, and I don't know why- they just- calm me," she meowed. "Littlepaw, I don't know what to do," she meowed. She looked behind Littepaw and saw all her denmates just telling stories without her. "I'm always left out," she meowed, lastly. Her voice was quiet, as usual, and just looked at her brother with round, amber, eyes.

At first, Woodpaw had moved toward the edge of the group, somewhat annoyed. He should have known that Maplepaw's story would be more exciting than his own. Upon hearing of the disappearing cats, however, his ears shot forward, his jealously giving way to interest. What was this story? "D-dead?" he stammered as he learned Robinclaw's fate. "So... the badger killed him?" Grimly, he remebered what had happened to his mentor, Wolfheart - and was suddenly much more grateful that he and Spottedfrost had escaped the badger attack.

"No they don't," Littlepaw hissed inside. "Will you get your tail in here and listen to the story. There's death, badgers and disapperences," he called softly. "Littlepaw, shut up!" Heronpaw hissed, cuffing his paw over his brother's ear. "We're trying to listen to the story." The white apprentice ignored him and looked back out at his sister. "What you can do is come inside. You always get left out before you always leave right when all the good stuff happened."
Maplepaw glanced over at Littlepaw before turning back to the other apprentices. If Goldenpaw didn't want to hear the story that was fine but that didn't mean Littlepaw couldn't sit with them. She nodded towards Woodpaw, answering his question. "Robinclaw just went for a little hunting in the Maple Grove and the badger decided to do a little of its own. Owlfoot was a mess. Not only was his mother missing but now his brother was horribly dead. Plus there were a few other issues as well." "Issues? And where did Lichenpelt go?" Heronpaw asked, repeating his brother's question. "All in good time, young apprentice," the she-cat laughed. "A rogue turned up in camp claiming to be Owlfoot's father or so I heard. Apparently there was a little scandal when Lichenpelt gave birth to the kits because they didn't resemble any of the toms in camp. Plus, the rogue had been sented on the territory. But I didn't tell you that." Heronpaw looked at her stunned. The RainClan deputy was part rogue? No wonder he had fallen in love with Honeyfrost. Even he had heard that she wasn't Clanborn but nobody would talk about it...

Owlfoot strode back into camp, blinking his one eye. it was still sore and his depth perception had just gone comepletely out of it. his mother came in after him, a mouse in her jaws. Her and Owlfoot had been out, attempting to train him with his new disability. It had been a pretty eventful day. Her son was beginning to rely on his ears more. She stopped, turning her head in teh direction of gathered apprentices, wondering what they were talking about. Her whiskers twitched, giving her that someone's-talking-about-me feeling.

Lightningpaw was a little stunned by this as well. Not by the fact he was half rogue. No, he was more stunned to how many terrible things had happened to their deputy. He glanced to Heronpaw, seeing his expression and almost reading his mind. "It doesn't matter to dad if Owlfoot is half rogue. Remember Faunus? He's a loner and good friends with mom and dad." he said quietly in his brother's ear before looking back to Maplepaw. "So what happened to his...supposed dad? And....this has been bothering me...but who are Honeyfrost's parents?"

"But Faunus is a loner and not a Clan cat," Heronpaw whispered back. Littlepaw had rejoined the group and was now paying full attention to the story. Once again Goldenpaw had ignored he and wandered off to be with her mentor. "What's this about rogues?" he asked. "You would of heard if you were listening," his larger brother complained. "Owlfoot's father is part rogue. He turned up in camp apparently wanting to get to know his sons. But Robinclaw was dead," Maplepaw told him, filling in the smaller apprentice.
Maplepaw looked up at Lightningpaw slightly startled. Why did he want to know about Honeyfrost? This story was about Owlfoot. "Well...Owlfoot's father left, I don't know much about him. I remember overhearing something about-" She paused and glanced at the apprentices around her. She had already told them about Owlfoot so why not about every other half-bred cat in the Clan? The only reason she could think of for not telling them was because she would have to admit that her own mother wasn't Clan born. I suspose it would be better if I told them and not one of the Elders or somebody else. She took a deep breath and continued. "I overheard somebody mention that at the battle the rogue fighting Owlfoot commented on his father and told him that Honeyfrost knew him. Desertflower told me that the rogue was called Suntail and her sister. Suntail was in AquaClan but she ran-away when she found out she was having kits. Honeyfrost is Suntail's daughter along with Flaxeyes from FrostClan, the BeachClan deputy and the AquaClan warrior Owlspot." "Desertflower's sister is a rogue? And so is the BeachClan deputy?" Heronpaw meowed, stunned. What had happened to the Warrior Code? Rogues couldn't be Clan cats. Maplepaw nodded meekly. "Desertflower's mother was a kittypet, her father a rogue." "But...Desertflower is your mother," Heronpaw mumured, sadly. "So what?" Littlepaw retorted, leaping to Maplepaw's defence. "Who cares who Desertflower's parents are? Maplepaw is as Clan born as the rest of us."
((I know. So far Maplepaw has managed to skim around the parts involving Burntstar and why they're all in different Clans. ))
