Burntstar blinked, slightly startled by the apprentice's question. Obviousily his observations of the tom had been less than subtle. The grey tom had scrambled to his paws and stood next to his companion, light blue eyes daring him to answer the question. Burntstar fixed his amber eyes on Lightingpaw's, his expression blank. "Are you related to Hawkstar by any chance?" he asked. "Because you resemble him in a way."
"Now if I remember rightly," Honeyfrost meowed casually, glancing around," If we continue up this hill we should reach a boulder and we can use that as a lookout point." She sniffed the air, trying to catch the apprentice's scent. The wind had carried it away and she was forced to put her nose to the ground. "I forgot how hard it is to track here," she grumbled," I've grown soft from hunting in RainClan. Coppertail would have my ears off."
"They already know," Orchidtail called back, her voice tired. Tussockwind was already streaking across the ground, his slender frame allowing him to move easily through the thick forest. His nose was close to the ground as he followed Honeyfrost and Owlfoot's scent. After a moment of running he turned to look back at Orchidtail. She was only a fox-length away, daintly pushing past a fern. "They're heading towards the border," he told her. "Then move faster!" she cried, leaping over to Tussockwind. "They'll be killed!" "Honeyfrost might of some help," the younger tom commented drily.

Goldenpaw smiled at Littlepaw. What a stupid question that was! She stood up, as tall as she could then crouched. She looked awkward in the crouch then pounced. She over jumped her brother, showing she had some leg muscule. "Okay, I'll be a Beachclan warrior, and you be Frostclan, so it's fair that we aren't Rainclan." She then stuck out her tounge slightly and pounced again, knocking her and her brother off their feet.

Owlfoot chuckled slightly, hesitating slightly as his ears perked. "You hear that?" he whispered, ears twitching. "Sounds like talking..." He blinked his one as he looked around, swiveling his head to each side.

Honeyfrost swiveled her ears around and tilted her head. She could hear the wind, the waves crashing against the shore, a few insects and boards but not talking. She frowned and rose up on her hind legs to get a better view of her surroundings. "I can't see anybody," she meowed, confusion creeping it's way into her voice. She dropped back down, placing her paws carefully onto the ground as not to jar her muscles in her shoulders. "I thought I heard something too but maybe we imagine it?" she whispered. Her eyes were darting back and forth and Honeyfrost was starting to feel quite paranoid.

Lightningpaw's eyes brightened with interest, nodding slowly. He should have expected that, everyone noticed the resembelence...but, how did this rogue know their father. "Hawkstar?" he glanced to Heronpaw before looking to the tom. "Yes...he's my father. I mean, our father." He stood straighter, flicking Heronpaw's shoulder so he would do the same. "I'm Lightningpaw and this is Heronpaw.....who are you?" If this cat was going to attack them, surely he would have by now, knowing their names shouldn't make a difference. Unless he was like the rogue they fought when they were kits, and at that thought, he was ready for anything this cat would do.

Burntstar nodded. His observation was correct then. This young cat, and apparently his companion, were Hawkstar's sons. How lovely. Hawkstar has children. The one called Heronpaw had drawn himself up taller, showing that he was larger than his brother. Burntstar couldn't see much of Hawkstar in this one, though he did have the same startling blue eyes. He smiled at them and flicked his ears. "Oh, it doesn't really matter what my name is," he meowed, shrugging. "Yes it does," Heronpaw meowed sternly,"You know our names and our father's. How do you know a Clan leaders name?" It was easy to here the emphasis he had placed of the word 'Clan' as if it was distasteful for anybody but a Clan cat to be aware of their names. Burntstar snorted, his amber eyes flashing briefly with anger. "I was a Clan cat. A leader as well. But that's the past." "What's your name?" Heronpaw demanded, his pelt bristling. The apprentice was beginning to feel nervous. This rogue was playing games with him, avoiding their questions. "Take a guess," Burntstar laughed. "You both seem like the sort who would listen to an elder's tales. Hawkstar's sons would be intelligent. They would know exactly who I am."

Owlfoot stopped now, ears twitching. There it was again. Ok. There was definately someone talking. "I don't think we're imagining it, Honeyfrost," he whispered, voice stern. "There is definately someone having a conversation out there."

Lightningpaw didn't feel exactly right about this cat. When he smiled at them...it felt like he was hiding something. He glanced to his brother, eyes narrowing as the tom continued to avoid the question. He thought hard about what he was saying....he had been a leader...he knew their father but was now a rogue...His eyes widened in and he looked up to the cat, studying him. You could see, if only barely, slight battle wounds. He took a step back, a little unsure. "You're...you're Burntstar.....aren't you?" This was not a cat he wanted to be with, out here alone. After the stories he heard, this was NOT a good cat.

Heronpaw took a small step backwards, his fur brushing against Lightingpaw's. His brother was right. This rogue met all the facts they knew about Burntstar and he knew who Hawkstar was. There were even faint scars along his muzzle and shoulders from the battle between BurntClan and DustClan. This was the tom who had taken his father's life.
"Correct," he meowed, turning his head slightly. He could hear faint meowing and see the grasses swaying. Somebody was searching for the apprentices. He turned back to them, fixing his amber eyes on theirs. "Not afraid are you? Hawkstar faced me bravely in battle yet his own sons won't face me here, in No Cat's Land," Burntstar meowed, taunting them a little. "I would expect more. You already had the courage to come here."
"Great StarClan," Honeyfrost breathed. She flattened herself against the ground and began pulling herself forward, closer to the ground. It put alot of strain on her shoulders and she could feel the still healing skin on the wounds pulling. "It sounds like the apprentices. Maybe they're lost," she whispered. Honeyfrost hoped that was it because the other option wasn't as good.

Owlfoot nodded slowly, but perked slightly. "No...someone else..." he whispered, voice almost too low to be heard. This wasn't good. Three different voices, one shockingly familiar. He couldn't place it, but it stood out his mind, just next to that demented laugh and that scarred face.

Lightningpaw's eyes narrowed, his fur bristling as he teased and taunted them. "We're not afraid of you. But after so many stories, why should we trust you?" he said evenly, his voice firm and calm. His ears twitched, showing he know heard the sounds of approaching cats as well. He didn't know what was better. Going back to an angry Orchidtail or out here with Burntstar. Something about this cat pricked his fur and he glanced sideways to his brother to see if he was feeling the same. Just earlier, Heronpaw was upset about rogues in clans and such. Well here was one of the biggest traitors and rogues. What was he thinking?
((He can dare them to try and meet him again or something. Just leave a little thing for them to think about.))

Burntstar tilted his head and smirked at the young cats. "How do you know that you shouldn't trust me? Have I ever betrayed you?" Heronpaw's ears had swiveled around to face the sounds of the approaching cats but he ready to leave just yet. "You tried to kill your deputy!" he hissed. "And is Jaystar a good leader?" the larger tom retorted. He shook his head, dismissing the subject. "No. That was long time ago and if AquaClan falls it is not my problem. I tried to help them." "By attacking them?! By fighting the Clans and killing good warriors?" Heronpaw snarled, rising to his feet. The fur along his shoulders were rising and his blue eyes bore into Burntstar's. This rogue was meant to have been a Clan leader but now he seemed to show no compassion to his former Clanmates. If this was all rogues were, Heronpaw didn't want them in any Clan. They cared for nobody. Burntstar dug his claws into the hard ground and lashed his tail angrily. "I made my point didn't I? I showed that rogues were not to be ignored. I made my presence felt and showed the Clans I could pull them apart and bring them together. If so many warriors died, if so many were injured, that proved how weak they were. I can make them stronger!" Heronpaw fell silent and gazed at the ground. He had seen the damage two rogues could do to three skilled warriors on RainClan and he could only imagine the amount of damage a Clan's worth of rogues could do. "How could you make the Clans stronger?" he asked, his voice soft. "Teach them. I would bring the Clans together so they could train together. Why learn the same techniques over and over again when you could learn new ones just by putting aside Clan differences," Burntstar explained. He looked from Heronpaw to Lightningpaw. " I could teach you two. You could be the strongest warriors in your Clan."
((Just after this Honeyfrost and Owlfoot can find them. ))

'You took one of our father's lives...' Lightningpaw thought at his betrayal question then blinked to how cold he seemed towards Jaystar and his whole clan. Jaystar....maybe he would have been a better leader if Burntstar hadn't taken lives from him and haunted him since the day he tried to kill him. He watched as Heronpaw spoke, seeing his brother's reactions. This cat was turning him even more against rogues. Then he saw Heronpaw soften slightly and he glanced back to Burntstar. They were talking of strength, getting stronger and more skilled. Of course it sounded tempting...but...was it worth it to get it from such a heartless cat? This was their father's, their clans, ALL the clans enemy. It just wouldn't be right...."Strength isn't everything..." Lightningpaw said quietly, but meeting Burnstar's amber gaze with guarded green eyes. Then his eyes glanced to his brother after not hearing anything from him. Was he seriously thinking about doing this? "Heronpaw....?"

Burntstar's amber eyes were deep and cold. These were the eyes of a cat who would go to incredible lengths to get what he wanted. This was a cat who had seen the darkness that waited for him when he breathed his last breath. After his children's betrayal, after his son slashed upon his throat, StarClan had shown him what was to be his Fate and he didn't care. "Strength is not everything," he agreed. "You need intelligence, speed, agility and charisma. You need to know your enemy and how they move. You need to spend days watching in silence. And I can teach you." Heronpaw's eyes were unseeing as his mind drifted and took on what Burntstar was suggesting. He could learn from an old Clan leader with seasons of experience! And once he had learned all the rogue's secrets- Burntstar has said to know the enemy- he could rid cats like Owlfoot and Desertflower from the Clan. Heronpaw turned to look at his brother, startled by the sound of his voice. He had been so caught up in Burntstar's words he had forgotten Lightningpaw was there. "It would be another adventure, Lightningpaw," he whispered, pleading. "How much do you expect to learn from Spottedleaf? Don't you want to be a great warrior like Hawkstar or Wolfheart? We could learn so much and share it with the Clan like Burntstar said!" "Lightningpaw," Burntstar purred," It would be fun. You could have your warrior name in no time. All you would have to do is meet me at the Rogue Nest, at night. Sneak out of camp." "An adventure!" Heronpaw meowed.
"I know that voice," Honeyfrost hissed. A chill had ran down her spine and she felt every hair on her body bristling. Any other rogue she could deal with but not him. She rose to her paws, pulling herself up from her crouch. "Burntstar."

Owlfoot tensed, eye narrowing. "That heartless, selfish, rogue!" he hissed, shooting to his paws. "Are you listening to them?! Heronpaw's beginning to sound like Tigerstar, from those old stories..." his tone became softer, more resigned. He padded forward, passing Honeyfrost, planning to ignore anything she said to make him stop. He would not let them harm those apprentices.

"An adventure...?" Lightningpaw blinked in surprise. Was Heronpaw actually thinking about listening to Burntstar?! He looked to his brother, his green eyes wide and incredious as if he didn't recognize his own kin in front of him. Spottedfrost, Wolfheart, Hawkstar....of course he wanted to be a great warrior like them but..."They earned their warrior names, training from their mentors, not some rogue..." he started but was cut off by Burntstar. He looked between the two and he felt like he was pulled in two directions. He wanted his warrior name, of course. He wanted to be the best warrior he could be. But this just didn't feel right, maybe he could go just to make sure Heronpaw was safe.."An adventure..." he murmured, finally sighing and nodding slowly. "I guess so..." Somehow, just as he said those words, he felt stomach drop and he might just have made a deal with the devil.

"Good choice," Burntstar meowed softly, a purr rumbling in his chest. "You will not regret this. A true warrior is open to all ideas and suggestions. If he isn't, then he is blind. "When do we meet you?" Heronpaw asked, his eagerness well covered. He couldn't make the rogues come up to his level as a warrior but he had no problem with going down to theirs. He would beat them at their own game. "Two moon rises from now should be fine. The Rogue Nest is just up this hill near the rocks," Burntstar told them. He turned his head, Owlfoot's scent filling his nostrils. "You have some visitors." But when he caught the second scent his eyes widened. He thought he had recognised it.
"Let me deal with him," Honeyfrost meowed. Her voice was soft but you could tell that down she was furious and that was what made it deadly. She moved down the slight slope towards the cats, her slender figure cutting easily through the grass. "Burntstar!" she called loudly and angrily. She glared at the apprentices, her blue eyes cold. "Move. Now," she hissed at them.

Lightningpaw nodded, an uneasy feeling in his stomach. He caught the scents now as well and soon saw the face of an angry Honeyfrost. Oh boy. He had almost forgotten how much trouble they were in. At her commanded, he backed up behind Owlfoot, nudging his brother to follow. They didn't need to add to their trouble and Honeyfrost did not seem to be in a great mood now. He didn't meet Owlfoot's eyes, knowing they would be just as angry and he stood behind the deputy with his head down, eyes on his paws. He should have looked sorry and should have been thinking about how to apologize. But the meeting was running through his mind. Burntstars offer, Heronpaw's eagerness....did he really make the right choice?

Owlfoot turned to watch the apprentices, looking the over. "Neither of you are hurt, right?" he asked, already knowing teh answer. It didn't hurt to ask though. He glanced over to Honeyfrost, shivering slightly at her anger. This wasn't going to end well.

Heronpaw seemed to shrink under Honeyfrost's gaze and he flattened his ears against his head. If they were in trouble before, it was nothing compared to what they were facing right now. The she-cat looked ready to drag them back to camp by their tails and Heronpaw had the strange sensation that she probably would do it. He scrambled after Lightingpaw, keeping his head down. The deputy didn't look too happy either and he couldn't imagine that he was going to get any happier when they got back to camp. Somebody was going to have to tell Hawkstar. "No Owlfoot," Heronpaw meowed, shaking his head furiously in reply to the question. "He didn't touch us at all. We're okay." He peered around Owlfoot to watch the stand-off between Honeyfrost and Burntstar. In all the excitement he had forgotten that the latter was the father of Honeyfrost.
Burntstar looked the golden she-cat up and down, frowning. "What happened to your shoulders?" he asked, anger in his voice. He glanced over at the other warrior, noting his wounds as well. Seemed like Honeyfrost and the RainClan deputy had run into some trouble. "We were attacked by two mangy rogues," she hissed. "We barely escaped with our lives." "Who were they?" Burntstar demanded. "How am I meant to know!?" Honeyfrost cried angrily," I don't know all their names! This isn't like when I was an apprentice. I'm a warrior." "I just wanted to help you," Burntstar hissed back. "I'ld give them a few wounds to think about." "And you don't think I didn't? I'm not your kit anymore, father," she sneered," Or did Coppertail not make that clear enough?" The rogue winced visiably but shook his head to disguise it. "And how are your siblings?" he asked. "Coppertail is fine. Owlfoot's mate had kits, I'm told. Apparently they resemble him quite a bit. Flaxeyes had kits as well." Burntstar blinked, slightly startled that he had grand-kits. He wanted to ask all about them but even if Honeyfrost knew she wouldn't tell him. "Suntail will be so pleased," he murmured. "How is Suntail?" Honeyfrost asked softly, genuinely concerned for her mother. "Fine," he meowed curtly. "Missing you lot but fine. She'll just be happy to know I've seen you." Honeyfrost snarled. She hated it when her father made her guilty. She had never been super close with Suntail but she had always done her best to show her that she loved her and knowing that she was making the queen unhappy would knaw at her concious for moons. "Come see her," Burntstar meowed, a smile creeping onto his face. "No. Warriors do not go bouncing across the hills to meet rogues. She can come see me," she snapped. "But you, you are to never come. If I find out that you've been even talking to these apprentices I swear I'll shred your ears." "A little protective aren't you? They're not your kits. Are they?" "No. They're not. I don't have any," Honeyfrost replied quietly. She turned her head away and padded back to Owlfoot and the apprentices. She could feel her heart thumping in her chest and it took all her self-control not to break down and start wailing like a kit. She still loved Burnstar, just a little. He had raised her and trained her. How couldn't she? She looked up at Owlfoot, meeting his gaze. "Let's go," she whispered.

Owlfoot sighed, relief evident on his scarred face. "That's great," he murmred to the kits, a small smile on his face. He jerked as Honeyfrost came up beside him, turning to meet her trouble gaze. "Ok," he said, smiling wider. He turned to glance at Burntstar for just a moment, a bit cautious of the former leader. "Come on you two. The sooner we get you home, the sooner your punsihment will be over, believe," he said, padding back the way he ahd come, toward teh scent of home.

Lightningpaw could sense Honeyfrost's anger and just nodded when she commanded them to leave now. He flicked his brother's shoulder with his tail, signaling they better hurry and follow. He padded after the two warriors, walking a little bit behind them near his brother. He tried to concentrate on thinking how bad the punishment would be, but he could feel Burnstar's gaze on them and he couldn't think straight. As Owlfoot and Honeyfrost disappeared through the tall grass, he glanced over his shoulder once to the old rogue, his green eyes unsure before quickly turning to catch up with the others, his mind spinning with thoughts.

occ:/ When Heronpaw could tell Woodpaw about meeting Burntstar because he likes to gloat about things. Plus, he's peeved that Woodpaw went to the Tree Grove where Robinclaw was killed.
bic:/ Honeyfrost leaned against Owlfoot as she walked, taking comfort in his presence. "I don't think we should tell Orchidtail about Burntstar," she meowed, her voice almost a whisper. "She'll become hysterical. We could tell Hawkstar..." She glanced behind her to make sure the apprentices were still following. Lightningpaw was following in a daze, Heronpaw padding slowly beside him. Honeyfrost couldn't tell what was going on in their heads but they certaintly looked preoccupied with something. And she had a horrible feeling it wasn't good.
Unlike his brother, Heronpaw wasn't mulling over his decision. What was done was done and he didn't believe in turning back. But in fact, plans were racing through his head. Perhaps he could lure Burntstar onto Clan territory and tell Hawkstar he was recruiting rogues and Clan cats to take over again. And if Burntstar decided to tell his father that he had visited him he would confess but say that Burntstar was trying to recruit him but he tricked him so he could be captured. Perfect. A small smile crept onto Heronpaw's face.

Ooc: Well, he could go with Lightningpaw and Heronpaw. They probably will go back after the first time and they could take him the second time.
Bic: Lightningpaw caught sight of his brother's smile and looked away with a frown. How could he smile like that? He himself felt a little queasy in the stomach. He could still feel Honeyfrost's anger and he felt they were to blame. Actually, more of himself than Heronpaw. Heronpaw had been Heronpaw, Lightningpaw should have realzixed and not have gotten so worked up. Now everything was messed up. When he caught the scent of his mother, he dropped back more behind Owlfoot, ears and tail low. Don't get on an angry she-cats bad side. Especially if they were your mother. He didn't know what he would dread more, his mother's or his father's reaction.

"There you are!" Orchidtail screeched as she finally caught sight of the group. She was sitting under the trees that marked the border between RainClan and No Cat's Land. A little further down the border, Tussockwind was pacing back and forth, his tail swaying with agitation. Heronpaw squeaked and ducked behind Owlfoot, copying his brother. At the moment, Lightningpaw had the best sense so he decided if he wanted to live to see his warrior ceremony he better follow his lead. "Found them chasing some rabbits," Honeyfrost told her, the lie rolling off her tongue. She grimaced at them, her blue eyes reading do not speak of this again. Orchidtail stormed forward, her face contorted in an angry snarl. "So you decided to reward yourself with hunting?" she asked them. "On rogue territory? Are you both mouse-brained? Did you want to be killed? Or did you forget the wounds they can cause?" She gestured to both Honeyfrost and Owlfoot with a tilt of head. Heronpaw bit his lip and had the decency to look ashamed. He hadn't really thought about it. He didn't really think about anything for that matter.

Lightningpaw wouldn't meet his mother's eyes, his expression one of shame. The lie Honeyfrost told would still get in trouble, but he bet if she told her about Burntstar.....oh Orchidtail would not not be happy at the very least. "Sorry mother....it was foolish and all my fault. I thought I might catch something as an apology for my behavior earlier and missed the border. Heronpaw was trying to come and get me...it's not his fault, it's mine." he said quietly, his head bowed to her as solemnly said these words. He didn't know why he was taking this blame, maybe because he felt guilty to what he had agreed too. But it came easy, since he took the blame for his siblings before and now that it was part his fault, it was easier. "Sorry Orchidtail."
