Crashing Wave crouched in the corner silently, her gray eyes dull as she watched what went on around her. The wind blew lightly for leafbare, and she could feel newleaf in it's wake. The cold would be no more soon. No chance for it to steal any more of what she had. And new cats were on the horizon, picking their way into the hillside. Long Cloud seemed calm, and didn't care that they were taking over. If he came back, she wondered if he'd have the same curtesy. Her heart felt hollow as a twang of pain ached in her chest.

Raven's Thorn walked over to Crashing Wave and rubbed up against her shyly. "Hello, Crashing Wave," she murmured faintly. "Is there anything you want to do today? If so...I'll help you do it..." Her voice faded away as she turned to look at the leaves blowing around in the distance.

Long Cloud was day-dreaming. It was nearly his permanent state of mind and today was no exception. He sat in the middle of camp, his head tilted upward. Light blue eyes wandered across the sky as he followed the slow movement of the clouds. The clouds were not an unusual occurence but he felt the need to watch them. Yesterday, while he was out hunting he came across a leafless gorse bush and its branches seemed to twist up towards the sky as if it was trying to hook a cloud on its thorns. The idea made him smile now but he shook his head to focus himself. Something was coming. The young Guide had a feeling; it was as a continuous nagging in the back of his skull. What was coming he didn't know but he knew it wasn't good. "The clouds are particulary active today," he announced in his soft voice. "I think they're running across the sky. Escaping perhaps? They seem so lost..."

"Clouds? Active?" Raven's Thorn asked, turning her head around. Even though she could not see her leader, she could recognize his scent in seconds. "Well, I would highly doubt that a cloud would actually run across the sky...but whatever you say." She turned her head back to Crashing Wave, embarrassed that she would say such a thing to her leader.

"Clouds remind me of fish," Fire Song meowed, not even bothering to look skyward. Her head was buried in her paws and her voice was muffled as she lay in the liminal state that always followed a good afternoon nap. "You know, fish are all squirmy and slimy and clouds change shape. The sky is blue like water. I wouldn't mind some fish right now." The she-cat licked her lips, purring softly to herself at the thought of a fish caught fresh from the stream. She rolled on her side and stretched her hind legs, keeping her amber eyes closed.

"What's all this about fish?" Pine Needles caught the last few words of the conversation as she scrambled toward the center of camp. Considering how cold it had been lately, it was quite a nice day - a perfect day for getting out of camp and getting things done. Then again, it was also a perfect day for lying about and sharing tongues. As always, there was plenty of time for everything. She sat down in the grass, looking about somewhat cheerfully.

Long Cloud deliberately ignored Raven's Thorn's comment. He was well aware of her attitude seeing as how he had relied on the Advisors during his first few moons of being the Guide. He still did. He looked away from the clouds and turned his eyes towards Fire Song. The she-cat was stretched out across the ground, her head buried in her paws. The sight of seeing her so relaxed and happy sent a warm feeling crawling through him. Long Cloud gave a small smile and nodded. "Just like fish," he agreed," How very intelligent. Perhaps the fish are feeling hunted? The clouds could be a representation of what is coming. Something, clouds, fish." He flicked the tip of his tail against the leaf-littered ground and glanced over at the new comer to camp: his learner, Pine Needles. She was only a few moons younger than him but they seemed to get along fine. "Fire Song suggested that the clouds are like fish. Isn't that lovely?" he told her.

Crashing Wave looked up at Raven's Thorn. She didn't need help. She didn't want help. What was all this about help? What was all this about clouds and fish? She sighed, standing. It was getting noisy over here. "No, thanks," she said, her voice quiet and dull. But she still had her manners. Her parents would be proud. Would they be proud if they knew I had lost my mate? Was he even my mate? Had I chased him out of the Guild? Is that why he left? Because he didn't like me? Didn't love me?

"Clouds and fish," Fire Song replied, rolling over again and allowing the weak leaf-bare sunlight to warm the other side of her pelt. She was barely taking in the conversation; the inside of her brain was all fuzzy. She could barely make out the voices of everyone there. Long Cloud, obviously...Raven's Thorn, Crashing Wave, and Pine Needles. I wonder where Dad is. The member yawned widely and glanced quickly at the others, confirming that she had correctly identified the cats. She enjoyed living like this. All of her problems and all of the problems of the world were covered by a blanket of warm fog which kept her warm as she peacefully lay there. To Fire Song, all was well in the world at these times. During this time prior to rest, she still had a mother and a sister, her friend Rain Storm still had four fully functional legs, and her father still had all of his tail. Life wasn't perfect, but she could always pretend that it was.

"Mmm, that sounds tasty. Maybe we could try interpreting what the clouds are saying...if they're saying anything at all," Raven's Thorn croaked, turning her head up to the sky. She felt the warm, clear sunlight on her black fur. In some ways, she was happy to have black fur, because on the days when there was a cold breeze but a shining, clear sun, she could soak up all the rays. "Of course, I can't exactly see the clouds, so you'd have to describe to me what they look like..."

Rain Storm limped steadily back into camp, a bundle of herbs in his mouth. His gait was awkward, jerky and slow. He hobbled toward his den, his still furless scar glistening in the cold leafbare sun. He stopped, ears twitching as he turned his stormy blue eyes toward the gathered group of cats. Fish? Clouds? He shrugged, shaking his head and hobbling on. He wasn't part of teh conversation. Might as well not get involved. Still, depsite himself, he smiled. Well, he was always smiling. But that didn't matter. Long Cloud was doing good as Guide. That was all that mattered.

Raven's Thorn opened her mouth, taking in the air around her. She put her paw in front of her and touched Rain Storm's gray fur. Smiling, Raven's Thorn mewed, "Rain Storm! How is it with you?" She bowed her head in respect of her healer. "Did you hear we were talking about the clouds?"

Rain Storm jerked at Raven's Thorn's (that's awkward to say....) sudden voice, the sound booming in his ears. He nearly dropped the thyme leaves in his mouth. He turned, blinking at her with wide eyes, before the turned upward in a silent smile. After all. He couldn't say much with leaves crammed down his throat. He nodded, flicking his tail to his den. He really needed to get these in there and organize everything else.

[OOC: You're right...that is awkward to say. Raven's Thorn's.]
Raven's Thorn could feel him going away, and she sighed. Well, I guess he's in a hurry. She turned to Fire Song, still smiling. "Fire Song, do you know where your father is?" she asked, sitting down on the ground. The wind started to pick up, and it ruffled her short fur slightly.

Rain Storm spit the many leaves onto the ground, coughing slightly as some bits fell from teh back of his throat. He sighed happily, pushing them into a neat little pile. He stood and, wincing as his legs throbbed, turned and hobbled away. "Raven's Thorn?" he called, looking about. Oh. She wandered off. He slunk out of his den, looking about with wide blue eyes.

"Yes? What is it?" Raven's Thorn asked, turning her head. She couldn't look at him, but she imagined his gray pelt, and his eyes reflecting the sunlight. "I suppose we had something to say to each other..." She winced uneasily.

"In the den, maybe," Fire Song mumbled. She was currently unaware of the whereabouts of Eagle's Wing and couldn't be bothered to go and look for him due to her drowsiness. The she-cat yawned once more and rested her head on her paws. For now, she was content to sleep--or at least, try to sleep--and bask in the sunlight. She curled her tail close to her body and flicked its tip in the dust at her paws.

"Sorry for not saying anything earlier! I had thyme leaves in my mouth!" Rain Storm said, chuckling as he approached her. "I hope I didn't offend you in any way..." He trailed off, smiling sadly.

"Well, it's my fault for not being able to see that you were carrying leaves in your mouth," Raven's Thorn laughed darkly. She could remember the battle in which she lost her sight.
The world blackening...darkening...me, losing...an ebony aura surrounding my vision... She shook her head, trying to get those thoughts out.

Long Cloud was oblivious to the awkward exchange of words between Raven's Thorn and their Healer, Rain Storm. His mind had drifted again and he was know trying to sort out his thoughts regarding the clouds and fishes. He was finding it hard to focus for darting images flashed across his vision and he fought the sudden desire to race out of camp to search the streams. The Guide shook his white and ginger head and turned to face the group of cats that had gathered in the morning sun. "I think I should explain,"he meowed," about the clouds and what they mean now. Will you listen?"

"I know...but it's nothing to get so down on!" Rain Storm said, nudging her shoulder lightly. "You're still here." His voice was matter of fact, almost blunt in that remark. His ears twitched at Long Cloud's voice and he turned his head. He chuckled, nudging Raven's Thorn again. "Now I'm curious! Wanna go find out what he mean?"

"Yeah, sure."
Raven's Thorn walked over to Long Cloud, tapping him with her tail. She turned her head around, and her sightless gaze fixed on Rain Storm. "Come on over, he might be able to explain what this is all about," she called to Rain Storm light-heartedly.
"So, what's up with the fish and the clouds? Rain Storm wants to know." She turned her head back to Long Cloud, patiently waiting for an answer.

RainStorm chuckled as a he approached and sat, eyes absently wandering to Fire Song, dozing in the sun not far off. His whiskers quivered lightly and he turned away, looking back to Long Cloud, smile slightly strained. He waited patiently, ear twitching absently.

Long Cloud had a dreamy look on his face as he tried to translate his thoughts into understandable words. His gaze was concentrated above the crowd of cats upon a sparrow that was singing in a tree. It gave the impression that he was talking to the bird rather than his Guild. "The clouds," he began, flicking his tail absently,"are running from something. I know something is coming to us but I don't know what. The clouds are surely a sign. Poor things. They're stretching across the sky with only the wind to guide them." He paused, frowning, and turned to look straight at Rain Storm. "Today is full of surprises. I said guide!" Long Cloud meowed. He turned to Raven's Thorn who he knew had the sharpest hearing. "I did say guide didn't I? The wind is guiding them. Who was Guide before Bracken Thorn? Whistling Wind?" His blue eyes twinkled with an idea and he rose swiftly to his feet. He padded across camp and scaled the old pine tree that created the Nursery. Now up there he had a better view of the sky and the rustle of leaves to confirm his thoughts. He felt ready to burst for he was so sure that he had solved the problem. But how do I explain it?

[OOC: Alimay, flicking his absently?]
Raven's Thorn dropped her chin so that the tip of it touched her chest. She licked her chest fur anxiously. "Ah. So I see." Raven's Thorn narrowed her eyes, trying to think. Whistling Wind...the one with the gas problem...
"Yes, I'm pretty sure Whistling Wind was the Guide. Before Bracken Thorn. He was a nice cat, as I remember." She sighed contentedly.

Thistle Wing bounded up to the chatting cats, her eyes glowing with enthusiasm and happiness. "What's going on?" she asked cheerfully. She spotted Fire Song also with the cats, and ran over to her mentor. Yay! Everyone's here!
Raven's Thorn took in the scent of Thistle Wing and sighed, "That's how I used to be like when I was a learner. Cheerful...happy...always excited and filled to the brim with enthusiasm..." Her scarred, yellow eyes narrowed.
If only you could see! If only you could see! a voice in her head chanted angrily. If only you could see things! Raven's Thorn, you should have never engaged in that tragic battle...
Worriedly, Thistle Wing turned her head to look at Raven's Thorn, who was shaking her head in anger and disappointment. "Are you alright?"
"Yes...I'm fine..."

Dawn Light scampered out of the learners' den, and watched as the gathered cats chattered. She listened carefully, trying to pick out a conversation. She was bored and she wanted something to talk about. She walked, slowly, towards the cats and tried to listen in again.

"Hey! It's Dawn Light!"
Thistle Wing rushed over to Dawn Light, tackling her playfully. A wide smile was planted on her faces, and her claws were retracted.
"Don't wear her out!" chuckled Raven's Thorn as she heard Thistle Wing's impact. There was dust all around Raven's Thorn, and she coughed loudly.

(YAY!! Raven's Thorn can mentor Dawn Light! Thanks, Apple!)
Dawn Light squealed. "It's Thiste Wing!" she yowled back. She got into the right position and pounced on Thistle Wing. "Thistle Wing, you're so funny, you pesky furball!" She gave a smile and stood up again. She licked some dust off her pelt that had collected from the cloud of dust.
