"Ah, the marsh."
Applesong, Firepaw, and the others arrived at the marsh shortly after they had left the camp. Applesong inhaled the fresh scent of the Clan territory. It feels good to be home again.

Spottedfrost lagged behind the group, but at least she hadn't fallen far behind. Her legs burned, and her stomach wavered. The world tilted in strange places. But she would do this. Could do this. She wasn't doing this for herself; she was doing this for Lighteningpaw, who deserved a good mentor. Deserved someone better than herself.
Rainwing stopped, her breath panting. The run here felt good; during leafbare, she didn't run for fear of the cold. But in newleaf and greenleaf, running was like her second nature. She sighed, breathing in the marsh air. Fresh and clean. "So...I guess we can get started!

Firepaw purred with excitement. The marsh. She looked at Applesong. "What are we going to do today, Applesong?" she inquired, looking her mentor in the eyes. "Hunting?" She really wanted to practice her hunting!

Spottedfrost looks sick with anxiety. I wonder what's up, Applesong pondered, her tail swinging side-to-side. "Yes, we are going to hunt!" Applesong exclaimed, immediately getting into the hunter's crouch. "Now, copy me..."

The scent of the sea lingered on the breeze. Littlepaw took a deep breath, letting the taste of the salt sit on his tongue. He smiled happily, glancing around at each of the cats around him. He bounded after Rainwing, the soft muddy ground turning his white pelt brown. "I can smell the sea....and heron!" he laughed.

Rainwing laughed, breathing it in. She could smell the sea. She had never noticed it before. Sometimes it takes someone new to see something right in front of you. Well, in this case, smell. She wondered how Brackenstripe was doing, now that they were out of BeachClan territory. Was he alright? Was he safe? She hoped so. "So, where would you like to start? I should probably teach you how to hunt and fish for eels."
[ooc;] I'm not entirely sure how you fish for eels...or anything like that. Can somebody help me XD

[OOC: Moonstream, I think we have a no-swearing policy on this site...check the rules, but you may need to modify your siggy. That's all.]
"Eels. Maybe not the best meal, but they'll do!" As Applesong reached her paws into the murky water, she slipped and fell in. For a moment, she was floating in utter darkness, and she couldn't breathe. However, she fiercely paddled up to the top. A few moments later, Applesong's head was bobbing above the rippled water. "Well, that didn't go to well," she laughed, trying not to take the incident too seriously. "Firepaw, don't follow my example on that one."

(Sorry! Been SO busy!)
Wolfheart padded up beside Spottedfrost, unable to hide his concern and worry for the she-cat. "You sure your okay with this?" he asked quietly, rubbing his side gently and comfortingly against hers. His blue eyes were mixed with different emotions as he gazed into hers. He had been the one who had been so badly wounded but after that, when he woke, Spottedfrost had changed. No doubt he still cared for her, but he did miss the lively she-cat he once knew.
Lightingpaw let the breeze ruffle is fur, tasting salt in the air. "Oh Heronpaw sure will not be happy when he hears about this..." he said happily, glancing to Maplepaw with a grin. His green eyes studied her, looking to her eyes last. Then he noticed he was staring and he glanced down quickly, skin burning. "Ah, the only thing is the mud.." he said, frowning as his paws squelched in the nasty stuff. Of course, somehow he would probably slip in it. And in front of Maplepaw too.

{ Hell isn't a swear word C: Well, I think, you use flashlights to blind eels and stab them with spears...But seeing as how these guys don't have torches or spears they'll have to grab them in their jaws xDD}
Maplepaw turned her head, catching Lightningpaw's green gaze out of the corner of her eye. She had been so absorbed in the scenery she hadn't noticed his staring, although apparently he had. She smiled to herself, both thrilled by the attention and his embarrassment. "You have to keep moving otherwise you'll sink," the older apprentice told him. She remembered a story from an elder where a young warrior had drowned in the mud when he fell into a particulary deep patch.
Nobody had told Littlepaw about the keep moving thing and he was know finding that out for himself. As the mud reached the pink skin between his toes, he gave a small squeal at the sudden cold sensation and stepped backwards, pulling his paws from the marsh. The marsh, however, was not eager to let go of the white tom's paws and Littlepaw fell to one side. "Mouse dung," he wailed, struggling to regain his footing. His pelt was now more brown than white!

Lightningpaw frowned, picking up his paws with distaste. He didn't like this. He much preferred grassy or barren land, easy to run on. But he'd have to learn the advantages of the marsh sooner or later. And it was much better without Heronpaw to laugh at him. He finally found himself glancing up to Maplepaw again. "What happens if you sink so much..." He stopped midesentence, knowing the answer. One look at Littlepaw had given him a good clue of the answer.

{That's funny...in my idea it always was. Some of my friends say much worse, though...}
"Well, it happens all the time," Applesong purred, batting Littlepaw's mud-covered pelt with her tail. Specks of mud went flying everywhere. "Oh. Oops, sorry." She stepped back, then looked in the water.
Here it comes...here it comes...snap!
Applesong caught a slimy eel in her jaws, gnawing it to make sure that it was dead. She then dropped it on the ground. "That is how you catch an eel," Applesong laughed.

Spottedfrost watched the marsh with distaste, but didn't say anything. "Yes, I'm fine," she murmured to him. But she knew she wasn't. And she knew that he knew that she wasn't. But the she-cat would not let Lighteningpaw down. She was his mentor. Hawkstar had chosen her for some unknown reason, not Applesong and anybody else. She was determined to be the best mentor she could be. And that meant getting over this...this illness, or whatever it was.
Spottedfrost padded up to Lighteningpaw. "Just keep moving and you'll be fine," she rasped.
Rainwing watched as Applesong caught an eel in her jaws, and a twinge of jealousy panged in her stomach. She still couldn't catch an eel very well, and Applesong had just been on a hiatus, somewhere, away from RainClan... She would make a much better mentor for Littlepaw. Shaking her head, she bounded over to Littlepaw. The poor tom was covered in marsh water and mud, with specks of white every here and there.
"Basically, all you do to catch an eel is stare into the marsh, and be very quiet. They're hard to find, but you'll see a shadow when one passes by, and you reach down and grab in between your jaws." She paused. "Like this."
She crouched low, staring into the marsh, eyes intent on every change of lighting. She felt the mud and water soak her underbelly, and seep in between her paws. A shadow flicked into her vision, moving slowly. It slithered, and she plunged her head down, feeling the slippery feel of the eel between her teeth. She jerked up, biting down harder on the eel. Rainwing felt it flop on either side of her face. She dropped the eel and spat out the marsh water. "You have to be careful, though," she explained. "The eels are very slippery, so you have to get a good grip on them." She placed a paw on the dead eel. "And make sure its dead before you put it down, because they are nasty little creatures; and they know how to escape."

[OOC: Yup, Applesong caught a fish-bait. When I was younger, my dad and I used to collect those when we went to the beach.]
"Sorta like fish, huh?" Applesong asked, turning to look at Rainwing. Her gaze then drifted over to Spottedfrost. Her voice sounds bad...
Nevertheless, Applesong started watching the murky waters, then bit her jaw on something slippery. She then pulled out a small fish. It wasn't a real fish, and it was a bright pink color, with little sparkles. "Who could have put a fake fish into the water?" Applesong mewed, looking closely at the "fish."

The tips of his ears blushed red and Littlepaw's fur bristled under the layer of mud. He didn't need Applesong treating him like a kit, even if she appeared to be a skillful hunter. He turned his gaze instead to Rainwing and studied how she caught the eel. Contrary to her beliefs, she was a great mentor and Littlepaw was happy to have been chosen to be her apprentice. He crouched down beside the eel, gazing at it's sky blue eyes. "Wow. They look like snakes!" he meowed.
Maplepaw smiled warmly up at Spottedfrost. The she-cat was doing the best she could, and Maplepaw hoped that she would soon regain her confidence. She remembered how Spottedfrost had been before the attack and it made her upset to see her like this now. But Wolfheart was there to help the warrior and Maplepaw was sure that Spottedfrost would recover soon. "Can Lightningpaw and I go explore the grasses?" she asked her, glancing over at the apprentice. "I want to try some of my old fighting moves. I haven't been practising very much." Hopefully this would give Lightningpaw's mentor a chance to think over his training.

"Snakes?!" Applesong gasped, the fur on her neck rising. She then relaxed, and smirked nervously. "Um...sorry. I can't really say I like snakes...I was almost bitten by one a few moons ago," she explained.

Lightningpaw looked up to Spottedfrost, nodding at her advice. "Alright." He would listen to anything she said. As long as he had a mentor, he wanted to learn the most and maybe he could help her get better as well. When Maplepaw spoke, he glanced her direction and his face lit up in a big grin. "Yes, can we, Spotedfrost!?" There was no hiding the excitement in his voice. He clearly loved the grasses more than the marsh.

"If you want to go to the grasses, then you can go over to the grasses," Applesong sighed, tapping her tail on Lightningpaw's shoulder. "You should always have the chance to enjoy whatever you do," she advised.

[ooc;] no she is not. especially with her newfound determination.[/ooc]
Spottedfrost bristled. Lightningpaw was her apprentice, not Applesong's. "I'd appreciate if you left Lightningpaw's mentoring to me," she said icily, her turquoise eyes slits. She turned to Lightningpaw, swallowing her anger and said quietly, "Yes, Lighteningpaw. You and Maplepaw can go to the grasses. Maplepaw, if you want, you can teach him some of the fighting moves. It will help me a lot."

"I was just suggesting," Applesong mewed, her tail twitching and her paw lifted up. She then walked over to the rest of the group. "So, apprentices, let's all try together, on 3...2...1..."

Maplepaw was very surprised that Applesong had even thought about taking over Lightingpaw's training, let alone actually doing it. The apprentice cleared her throat nervously and gave Spottedfrost a weak smile. "Sure, I can do that. If I hide it'll give him a chance to try tracking!" she meowed. Maplepaw looked to the black and white tom with twinkling amber eyes. This would be fun! Finally a chance to outmatch him and show that, even as the oldest apprentice in existence, she does have skills.

Lightningpaw glanced uneasily from she-cat to she-cat as he was stuck in the middle. He let out a little, unnoticiable sigh of relief when Applesong let it go and went back to Littlepaw and the others. He grinned happily from Spottedfrost to Maplepaw. Yes, he'd been waiting to have the chance to train with Maplepaw! Not that he would willingly admit that outloud without making up an excuse like she could teach him new moves or something. And Heronpaw would see right through it anyway. He met Maplepaw's gaze, seeing the clear excitement in her eyes too and it sent a jolt of energy through him. He was going to do the best he could, maybe show off a little for thr older apprentice. "So, are you going to go hide?"

Maplepaw replied with a soft mrrow of laughter. "Of course! And don't go getting stuck in the mud, will you? I don't want to have to pull you out." She tilted her head and gave Lightningpaw her mischeivous look. She winked to show that it was all in good fun and, as she bounded into the thick grasses, brushed her side against his. She could feel the warmth of the sun on his black fur and his scent was certaintly sweeter than the reek of the marsh. However, a little voice inside Maplepaw's head told her that this was reckless as she was starting to believe Heronpaw's taunts were true. That maybe Lightingpaw was falling for her. She sighed and the corner of her mouth twitched in a smile. And can it not go both ways?

"Eh?"
Applesong turned around to see the two apprentices chatting with each other. Heh. Looks like they're enjoying a young lo- She squeaked as she tumbled into the marshy water, completely unprepared. In a few seconds, her head was bobbing above the water.
"Looks like I just lost my balance there," she purred, smiling.

Rainwing walked over to Littlepaw, smiling. "So," she asked, "what would you like to do now?" The marsh water was beginning to dry on her pelt and face. She scrunched her face up, not liking the grit and such all over her face and in her eyes.

Firepaw looked up. Everyone else was busy. Oops! she thought, I was daydreaming again. She made herself look like she was paying attention. She watched the other apprentices. As Applesong tumbled into the water, Firepaw gasped. "A-a-apples-s-song, are you okay?" The apprentice was shaken by the sudden event.

Littlepaw blinked in surprise at Applesong. He hadn't realised the water was so deep in places. "Could we practise some fighting moves?" he asked, looking back at Rainwing. "I want to learn how to use my...size to my advantage." He hated that he was smaller than the other cats and hated even more admitting it. Despite training longer than Heronpaw, his brother could still overwhelm him purely by size. Surely there was a way to fight larger cats?

Firepaw slowly walked over to Applesong's paw that was out of the water. She meowed, "How? I don't know how to get you out of the water!" Her voice cracked as she said 'water.' Her eyes were large, and her expression made it look like she was scared. Firepaw was still shaken.

Applesong smiled at Firepaw, her paw still sticking out of the murky water.
