Lightningpaw slowly unpuffed his chest, smiling still. "Thank you Maplepaw." He was afraid to saw this out loud, but even with her fur ruffled and sticks sticking out of her fur.....she still looked good to him. He purred as well, looking to her sheepishly. "So your not mad at me for beating you? Usually Heronpaw says I just got lucky or something." He said with a chuckled, shrugging. He also felt bad...this secret training with Burntstar was giving him and Heronpaw an edge. They were going through their training more quickly than normal, but the guilt was starting to get to him.

Wolfheart quickly popped up beside Spottedfrost, holding two pieces of fresh-kill in his mouth. He placed the two mice at her feet, smiling up to her. "Sorry to disappear, but I figured you might be getting hungry. Is this okay?" He nudged the mouse closer to her, smile still lighting up his face. He could tell she had been thinking and by the expression on her face, it didn't look like she was happy. He would do anything to change that.
Spottedfrost gave a weak smile at her friend, before looking at the mouse in front of her. Bile rose in her throat, but she swallowed it down. Flashes of blood and gore replayed through her mind, and she closed her eyes, ignoring the terror that she felt when she saw it was Wolfheart. Breathe, the chocolate tabby thought. Forget the past. Now, the present. Think about now. With hesitant paws, she lowered herself to the ground, so her face was closer to the mouth. Nausea threatened to overwhelm her. For Lighteningpaw. For Wolfheart. Lighteningpaw, Wolfheart, Lighteningpaw, Wolfheart... As she chanted those two names, she let her head lower toward the mouse slowly, ignoring the disgust she felt.
And then the mouse and blood and fur was in her mouth. Nausea roiled but she swallowed it. And she hadn't realized til now how hungry she really was. Her stomach felt empty, and it sent little black spots into her vision. Regardless of the fact that she didn't want to eat it, she couldn't stop. Spottedfrost wolfed down the mouse, and realized that she could do this. She could fight whatever this was. That mouse was proof of that.

{I edited my last post. It has Littlepaw's reply now C:}
Maplepaw scowled at the mere mention of the young gray tom's name. "He is far from lucky!" she told Lightningpaw, a hidden edge to her voice. Heronpaw was the only cat in the Clan she truly disliked. He was childish, self-important and down right infuriating. She hated even more the way he had to bring everyone down if he didn't get what he wanted. Maplepaw tilted her head and gave Lightningpaw a stern look. "You won fairly! I would never be angry with you over something so minor," she explained. Feeling that she was bringing the mood down, she smiled and moved into a hunter's crouch. Playfully, she wiggled her haunches and twitched her tail as she got into a better position to leap at the apprentice. However, she felt it would be fair if she gave Lightningpaw time to prepare himself. "It's really unfair I have to look like a fox spat me out," she laughed.

Wolfheart watched her as he ate slowly his own kill. He could see this was hard for, but he was also proud of her. When she was done, he nuzzled her shoulder lightly, taking in her scent. It was still the sweetest to him. He smiled lightly to her, nodding to the last of his own. "Wow, you were hungry. Would you like the rest of mine?"
Lightningpaw laughed, shaking his head at a thought. "The only one who looks like a fox spit him out is Heronpaw in the morning. He does NOT like waking up." He said with a chuckled, rolling his eyes. He saw her stance and he got down as well, watching her with his bright green eyes.

Littlepaw ducked away from Applesong but he couldn't stop the grin that was spreading across his face. His green eyes shimmered like dew covered grass at the she-cats' words. Rainwing and Applesong believed in him! All Heronpaw had ever done was bring him down and his mother always whispered in his ear,"I'll love you no matter what." But his mentor was telling him he could be so much more! The apprentice looked up at her, a soft (and rare) purr rumbling in his chest. "I'll work harder than any cat," he told her.
Rainwing smiled. "Of course you will, Littlepaw. Every warrior knows that you are going to make a fantastic warrior one day, one the Clan will be proud of and talk about for generations to come. If somebody doesn't, then they are jealous." Smiling still, she sat down. "What would you like to do now; more battle training, or some hunting and tracking?"
Spottedfrost shook her head. She would wait until she was back at camp. She had heard about starvation and consumption. One's stomach shrinks during the days of starvation, and once back in civilization - when one can eat as much as they please - one must eat slowly, and let the stomach grow back to it's normal shape, or risk dying of consumption. "I'm OK." She reveled in the feel of his fur against hers and wished that that badger hadn't attacked them. Everything could be different right now.

"You okay, Spottedfrost?" Applesong asked, the tip of her tail touching Spottedfrost's nose. She turned to the rest of the group, and smiled heartily. "I totally understand you, Lightningpaw," she laughed after hearing his comment.

Maplepaw grinned and, with a mrrow of laughter at the comment, she pounced upon Lightningpaw. In one swift movement, she came at him from the side and threw all her weight at him as to send him rolling. With sheathed paws, she playfully kicked at his belly, intent on getting her revenge for his surprise attack.
Littlepaw was purely ecstatic. While Rainwing's words would of caressed Heronpaw's ego, they only made the brother proud and even more determined to become the best warrior he could be. "T-thank y-you," he stuttered, still overwhelmed by the praise. He tucked his head in against his chest to hide his smile. In a soft voice he answered his mentor's question. "Battle training! If Applesong and Firepaw want to join too..." He glanced nervously over at the other apprentice. Littlepaw was unsure where the stood but he hoped to gain some friends amongst the other apprentices.

Lightningpaw's eyes widen as she came at him, sending him tumbling over on his side by all her weight. 'She's strong.... As her paws hit his belly, he realized he needed to get to his feet quickly. He did so in one quick motion, backing up a little before charging towards her and ducking, aiming a blow to her feet so take her off balance.
Wolfheart kept his eyes on her, nodding. "Alright then. When Lightningpaw and Maplepaw are done, how about we head back to camp?" he suggested quietly with a smile. He was proud of her for making this effort and it was making her better. But little steps were better than big ones at first.

Rainwing smiled. "Of course! If Applesong and Firepaw want to join us, then the more the merrier. I've never co-taught before." I've never taught at all... She kept that thought to herself. The silver tabby turned to the ginger she-cat. "Would you and Firepaw like to join us? Littlepaw and I are going to do some more battle training, and I'm sure it will be more fun with another apprentice. And you're more experienced than I am. I'm sure you could teach him things that I don't know."

Spottedfrost stiffened at the touch and the words. Why wouldn't they just let her be? "Yes," she snapped, "I'm fine." Jerking up, she swished off into the grasses. For once in this gray and horror-filled life since the badger attack, she wanted to be completely alone, without her Clanmates watching her every move and wondering if she was going to have a breakdown. As she settled herself into the grasses, she realized that Wolfheart had spoken to her and she had stomped off. Regret filled her stomach, but the chocolate tabby didn't want to go back - it would just further the proof to Applesong that something was OK with Spottedfrost.
[ooc;] does Applesong know about the badger attack? If not, maybe she could ask Wolfheart what's wrong with her? Just a suggestion. If not, she's bound to get more answers out of Wolfheart than she is of Spottedfrost.[/ooc]

[OOC: Nope. She has no clue about the badger attack. Or, if she does, it was very minor to her in her life, and she doesn't really remember what happened.]
"Okay." Applesong turned to Wolfheart, her eyes partly filled with confusion, and she sighed. "Spottedfrost doesn't seem...alright...today," she told him. "Any ideas?" She then turned to Rainwing and nodded cheerfully. "I'll happily join you guys!" she exclaimed.

Wolfheart tail droops slightly and he frowns as she storms off. He was really upset with her, he could understand she would want some alone time without him checking up on her the whole time. He glanced to Applesong, shrugging. "It's not much different from any day since the Badger attack. It really shook her up." He saw that she was going to join Rainwing, so he nodded to her with a smile. "I'll explain more later, go ahead and have fun.""

"Okay, thanks."
As Applesong went off to join the group, she started thinking about a few things. Badger attack...what is he talking about? Was I there? How does Wolfheart, out of all people, know about this?

Rainwing smiled at Applesong, slightly nervous. Applesong was a very skilled warrior - much more skilled than herself. She was worried she would make a fool of herself. Smiling wider, she turned back to her apprentice. The silver tabby glanced at the other warrior out of the corner of her eye, saying, "I was just teaching Littlepaw how to use his size to his advantage."

Littlepaw didn't make eye contact with the ginger tabby and her apprentice but instead stared at Rainwing's paws. His ears flattened slightly against his head, the skin blushing red. Did she have to mention his size? Couldn't she just have said they're training? He peered up at Applesong and forced, what he hoped, was a warm smile. This is going to be shameful...

Where did he learn that move?! Lightningpaw twisted himself out of Maplepaw's grasp and left her empty-pawed. She attempted to snag his flank but he backed off before charging back at her. She had forgotten how fast he could move! A paw flashed out at her feet and she side-stepped in confusion. Her mind was racing was as she tried to keep up with him. Maplepaw grimaced, twisted her body away from Lightningpaw as to distance herself from him.

Lightningpaw realized he had taken her by surprise and had the upperhand now. As she backed away from him, he kept coming with speed to make her trip up some way. He lunged to one side to make her go the other, only to counter quickly by switching direction in midstep and taking her feet from under her, pouncing on her and pinning her to the ground. He was breathing heavily as he looked down to her. "Does this mean I win?"

In a flash, Maplepaw found her overwhelmed and back on the ground. Her legs were aching from each panicky step she had made to avoid his paws. Of course, it was all to no avail. The blood pounded in her ears and her sides heaved with Lightningpaw's. Spottedfrost can't have taught him that! The apprentice swallowed nervously, now seeing that the black and white tom was more skilled than any warrior she had come across. She even (she hated to admit it) feared him. "I guess so..."

Lightningpaw's ears drooped and he frowned unhappily. He could sense some of Maplepaw's feelings and he backed off her, sitting down with a thump. He studied her a moment before speaking. "Is everything okay?" he asked, blinking in confusion as he met her gaze. "Sorry if I startled you....I was just play fighting. That's how I have to fight with Heronpaw so..." He trailed off, himself realizing part of his mistake. He hadn't had training, as far as anyone knew, and Heronpaw and him shouldn't have been play fighting. So...he was going to have a lot to explain.

"Hmm...the time's flew by. Well, Littlepaw, we'll have to continue this another time." She smiled fondly at her apprentice before shivering a little. It was getting chilly too.

Littlepaw shivered, fluffing out his mud flecked fur. His tail dropped in disappointment and his green eyes were downcast. It was getting dark and he didn't like the chill in the wind but he really wanted to train! "I guess so," he mumured," Can we go tomorrow?"
She rose to her paws slowly, testing her weight on her left leg. The least thing she wanted was to sprain it and be stuck in camp. The whole time she did this she didn't look at Lightningpaw. Her heart was still thudding her chest. "I-I c-couldn't fight back," she said softly. Suprised at those words, she shook her head and looked up and him suddenly. The apprentice seemed unhappy and uncomfortable. "You're really good!" she added quickly,"I was surprised. I've never seen anyone fight like that!" However, she was sure she had seen those moves before but couldn't place them. It deeply bothered her that Lightningpaw and Heronpaw were so skilled. Who was teaching them?

Lightningpaw frowned in concern, brows furrowing as he watched her. "Maplepaw....is your leg alright?" He asked quietly, taking a step forward to take a better look at it. 'Oh Starclan.....don't let her be hurt because of me....' He thought as she wouldn't meet her gaze, swallowing nervously. "I-I c-couldn't fight back," At these words his eyes widen and he stepped back in realization, backing away from her. 'I'm....I'm like a monster to her...' He just shrugged it off, not meeting her gaze. "Th-thank you....I-I'm sorry Maplepaw..." He felt terrible about all of it, from hiding the truth to becoming...like Burntstar himself. Something he never wanted to happen.

Rainwing smiled, though her teeth chattered softly. "Of course, if I don't freeze overnight," she said through her teeth. She laughed. "Let's get going. It's getting cold." She fluffed out her fur to keep the wind out, though it didn't do much. "And let's hurry, too."
Spottedfrost saw the group gathering, and realized if she wanted to go, now was the time. As she stood from the tall grass, the wind hit her full force, and the shock of it, made her hiss in surprise. When had it gotten so dark and cold? Picking her way slowly back to Wolfheart and the others, she called out, "Lighteningpaw, Maplepaw! It's time to go back to camp!" She soon found herself right next to Wolfheart, her legs shaking with the force she had to maintain to keep herself upright. This expedition had taken a lot out of her, and she was grateful and relieved to finally be going back to camp where she could lie down.

"It's fine," Maplepaw meowed softly, turning away. Her head was down and her shoulders hunched, as she walked back towards the other warriors. Each was done to protect herself from the cold wind and the thoughts that plagued her mind. Lightningpaw seemed genuinely upset but whether for her and what she said, she didn't know. He looks...afraid. But of what? "Come on," she sighed, looking over her shoulder,"I can hear Spottedfrost calling." Her eyes were wary as she watched him. She wouldn't cast him away. Not yet anyway.
Littlepaw nodded at Rainwing and ran off towards the thick forest line. He wasn't going to stand around in the cold waiting for Lightningpaw and Maplepaw to return.

Lightningpaw was shook out of his own thoughts as he heard Spottedfrost as well. He didn't meet Maplepaw's gaze or reply with anything but a nod. He followed behind her slowly, seeming to not even feel the ice cold wind or the rain as it started to fall. His eyes were glued to the ground but focused on something else. He could sense Maplepaw's wary gaze on him, and he didn't blame her. He wasn't one to be trusted or worthy of being her friend. Sighing, he continued towards the other with his slow, unnatural pace.
Wolfheart pressed his fur against Spottedfrost, for his warmth and hers. His fur was still shorter from where the Badger had claws it off, so this wind seemed to chill his very bone. He watched Maplepaw and Lightningpaw appear slowly and was grateful. He needed to get back to camp and warm up. A cold rain drop hit his nose and he sighed. They better hurry.

"Of course I'm coming with you!" Applesong exclaimed, running ahead of the rest of the group. When I lived with the rogues, there were nights when I strengthened myself by running against the wind, she told herself as she ran. I should be strong enough to keep on going.
Well, she did. But the group was already catching up...a little.

Littlepaw nodded at Rainwing and ran off towards the thick forest line. He wasn't going to stand around in the cold waiting for Lightningpaw and Maplepaw to return.
Rainwing slunk across the ground, trying to keep out of the wind. It didn't work well, and she envied Littlepaw who could get away with it. She moved quickly, like she always did, and quickly overtook half of the group. Applesong was still far ahead of her, but she was OK with that. She just wanted to get back to camp where it was warm.
Spottedfrost pressed against Wolfheart, glad for the support and the warmth. Since her fur was thin and lank and she held no fat on her body, the wind sank right through her fur, chilling her insides. She shivered and tried to walk quickly as the icy water spattered around them. But after the adventure today, she was weak and tired, and her muscles strained at the exert of energy. She felt like she was failing her friend, keeping him in the cold. "You go on ahead," she said softly, her teeth chattering slightly. "I'm just going to take my time. I'll be fine." She tried to smile, but it didn't come out right.
