RainClan was still sleeping, except for the early wakers and those who had been present at the birthing of Orchidtail's kits. After being awoken by his mother with the news, Tussockpaw started practising his fighting moves. He would be ready for this new 'competition.' Wolfheart, already feeling better, had joined the joyous Hawkstar and Orchidtail in the Nursery. Applesong, back from night hunting, was trying to organise hunting alongside Honeyfrost who wasn't exactly planning to hunt in RainClan territory. She had invited Owlfoot but the deputy didn't seem as enthusiased as she was. Yes, RainClan was all set for a wonderful day. Even the harsh scent of the fire could not damage them. But for Owlfoot, the day was only going to get btter. Lichenpelt, his mother, had returned.
Faunus, recently back from his 'vaccation', led her along the worn trail to RainClan camp.
"I feel nervous and excited, all at once!" Faunus meowed as they walked. He looked at her, his brown eyes wide and glittering. "I cannot wait to see the two of you together!"
Even the knowledge of Robinclaw's death would do no harm to this reunion of mother and son.

Lichenpelt's paws itched and her legs tingled, her ears twitching wildly. "Can we go faster?" she asked, her voice filled with excitement. She took in a deep breath, the scent of her home wafting over her. She stopped only for a few seconds to rub the annoying collar on her neck against a tree, teh worn fabric finally giving loose and snapping. She mewed happily before catching up with Faunus.

Faunus nodded and broke into a fast walk, close to a run. He was exhausted but Lichenpelt's excitement was infectious. He paused to let her catch up, noticing that her collar was now gone. He self-conciously scratched with his hind paw at the thick leather collar that he wore. It was good that she had managed to remove the collar. The Clan would be more willing to accept her without anything that tied her directly to the kittypet life.

Lichepelt ran after him, her muscles screaming with pleasure at their sudden use. She grinned widely, the wind whistling her fur. She took in deep breaths, the scent of her home and the addition of many cats adding to her energy.

Honeyfrost raised her head, listening to the sound of approaching paws. Her ears flicked back and forth a couple of times as she pinpointed their location. "Owlfoot," she meowed hestitantly," Can you here somebody running towards us?"
"Greetings RainClan!" Faunus yowled as he reached the entrance to the camp. "Is there anybody home?"

At the sound of a familiar voice, Hawkstar appeared at the entrance of the nursery. He looked to see his old friend Faunus, his face lighting up in a warm smile of greeting as he caught sight of the tom. He padded towards him, something different in the way he walked. The pride of being a father. "Faunus!" he purred rustily, happy to see his friend. They had been through some hard times and he always seemed to help them out the best he could. "You couldn't have picked a better time, my friend. Orchidtail just had kits." he said proudly, stopping beside the tom before looking over Faunus's shoulder to the other cat. He raised an eyebrow curiously. "Though...it's not like you, i would have thought you'd be at the barn not coming here. And......?" he tipped his head towards Lichenpelt, his curious gaze on the loner.

Lichepelt ignored Hawkstar, looking around the camp desperately for her son. The tom shook himself, yawning widely as he stood and turned his head, blinking at the two cats. He almost stopped dead, his amber eyes wide with excitement and confusion. "M...mother...?" he mewed quietly, his body trembling as he stood next to Honeyfrost.

"Orchidtail's had her kits already!" Faunus meowed, surprised. "How wonderful!" The tom really wished he had made it back in time before she had given birth so that he could've been with her. He knew it wasn't really his place, Orchidtail did have a mate, but the white queen was like a little sister to him. "Congratulations," he added quickly, dipping his head to the RainClan leader.
He turned to introduce Lichenpelt when Hawkstar gently prodded for her name. "I was on my way to the barn when I meant her. She says her name is Lichenpelt?" Faunus looked to see if the black and white cat recognised her.
"Mother?" echoed Honeyfrost, just as astonished. They said his mother was taken by twolegs...She studied the she-cat standing by Faunus and Hawkstar for any clear sign that this was Owlfoot's mother. A little shakily herself, Honeyfrost took a step backwards and pressed her flank against Owlfoot's, as if trying to protect him. The grey tom was shaking all over, his amber eyes wide. A part of her was afraid that if this she-cat was his mother, she would loose Owlfoot to her and he would never have any time for her. Honeyfrost was sickened by the idea and her stomach fluttered with guilt.
Desertflower looked up at the she-cat. Her amber eyes widened and she leapt to her paws. "Lichenpelt?!" Desertflower called.

Lichenpelt turned, eyes widening happily. "Desertflower!" she called, running toward her friend.
Owlfoot blinked again, watching his mother. He pressed himself into Honeyfrost, her warmth comforting. "Mother...." he whispered again, voice still shaky.

Hawkstar smiled and nodded to his friend. "Thank you, you should go see them soon." he replied before his gaze going back to the she-cat. He studied her a moment, then his eyes widened in realization. "Lichenpelt! She's Owlfoot's mother. She disappeared just after I was named deputy. She was supposedly taken by twolegs." he said, watching her run to Desertflower. Then he turned back to Faunus. "Thank you Faunus, again you have gone out of your way to help my clan. I'm extremely grateful." he said warmly and a dip of his head for respect.

Faunus watched as Lichepelt was reunited with a fellow queen. He guessed that they were probably apprentices together and might of been close friends. He turned back to Hawkstar as the leader dipped his head again in respect.
Faunus smiled sheepishly, slightly embrassed by his friend's gesture. "Hawkstar, you know I would do anything to help you and your Clan."
A dull ache in his paws and muscles reminded him of the second reason he had made the journey to RainClan. "I don't suspose you could spare me some poppy seeds?" he asked.
Desertflower ran froward and touched noses with the brown tabby. "Lichenpelt!" she meowed happily," I thought I you were gone forever! You've been away for long, so much has happened!"
Honeyfrost looked up at Owlfoot's face. He seemed beyond comprehension, the whole situation bewildering. She swallowed, trying to clear the lump that had formed in her throat. "Owlfoot, do you want to go see her?" she whispered. Honeyfrost gently nudged him forward with her shoulder. "I'll come too," she promised.

Owlfoot twitched at her nudge and looked at her, eyes wide and frantic. "Uuh...s-sure," he said, looking back to the brown she-cat. He began to walk toward her cautiously.
Lichenpelt grinned happily. "I was gone a while, wasn't I?" she asked, tail swishing happily.

Hawkstar smiled."And for that, I am glad." he said before nodding. "Yes, of course! You may rest here as long as you like as well. Go and see Orchidtail and the kits, I'll bring you the poppy seeds." he replied, flicking his friend's shoulder warmly before turning and padding towards the medicine cats den, passing Owlfoot in the process. "Go to her." he said, smiling as he nudged him towards his mother.

Faunus thanked Hawkstar and headed over to the Nursery. Orchidtail was lying on a soft moss bed, her head turned away from him. He could smell the kits newborn scent and his heart fluttered. "Can I go in?" he asked.
Orchidtail gasped in surprise and turned to look at him. "Faunus! Come in!" she meowed.
The dark brown tom padded over to her and peered down at the five small bodies. "They're beautiful," he breathed.
Orchidtail's white ears blushed pink. "Heronkit is the grey tom, Lightningkit is the one who lookes very much like his father, Goldenkit is the tabby, Fawnkit is the soft brown she-cat and Littlekit is the one who looks like me."
"I see the resemblance," Faunus meowed, smiling.
The queen blushed and proded Heronkit and Lightningkit with her nose, the toms were squabbling again.
"Those two are going to be a bundle of trouble," he commented.
Orchidtail sighed. "I know..."
"So much has happened! Where do I begin?" Desertflower rabbled, her own tail swishing excitedly. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Owlfoot edging towards him, Honeyfrost at his side. "Oh!" Desertflower gasped," Owlfoot! I completely forgot."
Honeyfrost smiled gladly at Hawkstar. "Thanks," she mouthed.
As Owlfoot moved, she walked alongside him, stroking her tail across his back to calm him. "She's your mother," she meowed," She would of missed you alot."

Lichenpelt tensed and turned, blinking at her own son. "Owlfoot!" she yowled, running toward him at full speed. She nearly toppled the deputy over when she reached him, burying her nose into his fur. "Mother..." he whispered, returning the gesture, legs and paws still trembling.

Hawkstar appeared in the nursery a moment later, dropping a leaf full of poppy seeds at Faunus's fault. "Here you go my friend." he said warmly, then padded over beside Orchidtail, nuzzling her cheek. "Beautiful aren't they?" he said, his eyes bright with pride. The second biggest kit, Lightningkit, tumbled away from his brother, stopping in front of Faunus. He looked up at the older tom curiously, sniffing the air with his tiny nose. He didn't squeak or cry for his mother when he smelled the unfamiliar scent, he actually smiled, rubbing against Faunus's leg in a friendly matter. Guess he knew friends of the clan.
((How long till their eyes are open?))

Honeyfrost lightly stepped away from Owlfoot and his mother. It felt wrong for her to be standing there beside him as they each buried their noses into the other's fur. This was their moment and Honeyfrost was not part of it. She stood watching them carefully, a small smile resting on her face. She wasn't immune to the happiness and pure love the two cats felt towards each other, the moment was touching.
"They would put StarClan's stars to shame," Faunus meowed, lapping up the seeds.
Orchidtail rolled her eyes. "Forever with the flattery."
The brown tom shook his head, laughing. "Well, somebody appreciates my words!" He gestured towards the little black and white kit who was rubbing himself against his leg.
"I'm Faunus," he meowed, looking down at Lightningkit. "A pleasure to meet you."

Owlfoot backed away from his mother, looking into her reflective eyes, a large smile on his face. He wasn't dreaming. She was actually here. Lichenpelt purred and rubbed her head against his shoulder, happiness, love, and pride filling her chest.

"Who's that?" Tussockpaw asked, in a harsh whisper.
"Don't you remember Lichenpelt?" his mother asked," You were just a little apprentice when she meant missing."
"Oh!" the light gold tom meowed nodding. He could remember that a queen had gone missing. Something to do with rogues...
Maplepaw wandered out of the Apprentice Den and squealed happily. "Lichenpelt!"
She bounced over to the she-cat, who tail flicking happily.
((Good idea. Let's have them with their eyes open then.))

Lightningkit smiled back, his dark green eyes bright and friendly, then turned to race back to his mother, only to fall over his long legs. He was sent tumbling into Heronkit, sending both to the ground. Lightningkit let out a squeak, shaking his head dizzily as he stood back up.

Lichenpelt turned her head, mewing happily. "Maplepaw! You've gotten so big!" she mewed, turning and padding toward teh apprentice. Owlfoot watched after her, still shocked to see his mother. His legs shook as he wavered nearly collapsing into Honeyfrost as he did so.

Heronkit squealed, stood and swiped at Lightningkit with a large grey paw. Littlekit mewed in alarm and wiggled away from his brother's. He hadn't started walking yet.
"Yeah!" Maplepaw agreed, her head bobbing in a rough nod. "I started late as an apprentice though and then...Sunpaw...well, lot's of things happened." Maplepaw's eyes became sad as she remembered her sister's death, than her mentor's death, and then how Silverstream left the Clan. Her leg injury just added the list of occurences that had slowed her training.
Honeyfrost stepped towards Owlfoot, tensing her legs in a slight crouch. As Owlfoot's wavered she dug her shoulder into his side and took some of his weight. Honeyfrost grimaced inwardly, hiding the slight pain as her small frame tried to support Owlfoot's body. "Dawnwhisker!" she called weakly, fearing that the grey tom would faint and she would be completely somthered.

Dawnwhisker's ears twitched and she turned her head, seeing Owlfoot in danger of collapsing. She quickly go to his other side, so that they had him balanced and supported. "Let's get him to the warriors den. He's not sick, just shocked. I'm sure he will be fine after some time and rest." she said, smiling to Honeyfrost.
Lightningkit moved out of the way just in time, avoiding the hit, then ram his head into his brother's side. Luckily, his legs held him up this time as Lightningkit swayed unbalancedly.

Owlfoot shook his head, tensing his legs. "No. I'm fine," he said, looking to the two cat's, his body no longer trembling.
Lichenpelt tilted her head, confused. "What happened to Sunpaw?" she asked, already dreading the fact she had asked the question in the first place.

Honeyfrost looked at Owlfoot, her eyes fill of concern. "Are you sure? A quick nap want do any harm?"
Maplepaw's clouded with sadness and her whole body seemed to slump. Desertflower heard the question and draped her tail over her daughter's shoulder.
"Sunpaw was out hunting with Orchidtail. A rogue attacked and..k-killed her," the queen meowed softly. Her voice cracked when she was forced to say that her somebody had purposefully taken her daughter's life.
Heronkit rolled onto his side as Lightningkit headbutted him and then kicked out with his hindlegs.
"Behave yourselves," Orchidtail scolded, nudging them both with her nose. "We don't want anybody getting hurt."
"They're just playfighting," Faunus laughed.

Dawnwhisker studied Owlfoot for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Alright, if you say so. But I do recommend you get a good night's sleep. You've gone through a lot today, shock can cause damage to a body and mind just like a wound can." she said, but smiled and stepped away from his side.
Lightningkit's front leg was kicked out from beneath him and he let out a small squeal, landing sprawled out on all fours, glaring at his brother slightly before smiling. He then worked to get himself back to his feet and help Heronkit to his paws as well.
Hawkstar nodded, laughing slightly. "Be careful Faunus, she's turned into an protective queen. The other day I about got my ears chewed off for laughing when they started to walk and accidently bumping Littlekit." he said, looking to Orchidtail jokingly, a smile across his face.

Heronkit gave a playful meow as Lightnigkit helped him to his paws. His blue eyes twinkled with the excitement of the playfight and it was obvious that there would be plenty more to come.
Faunus gasped melodramatically and stepped away from Orchidtail. "Oh no! Not a protective queen!"
The white she-cat gave a fake laugh and swipped at Faunus with one paw. Of course, as she was lying on her side suckling her kits, she wasn't much of a threat.
"But it will be you Hawkstar who has to run after them when they become apprentices," she told her mate.
"Speaking of which, do have you chosen mentors?" Faunus asked, stepping forward again.

"I know, I know. And looking at Lightningkit now, it seems he shall be pretty fast, maybe even matching Tussockpaw's speed." Hawkstar said with a sigh as he looked to his kits, smiling. He then looked up to Faunus, a thoughtful look on his face. "I have been. I was thinking Spottedfrost mentoring Lightningkit, Honeyfrost for Heronkit, and Owlfoot for Goldenkit. Now, for Littlekit and Fawnkit...any suggestions?" he said, looking to his mate and friend.

"Applesong hasn't taken any apprentices, and she has been showing quite alot of interest in Woodpaw's training," Orchidtail commented.
"Applesong? She is the ginger she-cat isn't she?" Faunus asked.
Orchidtail nodded in confirmation. "She's very energetic and I see her often leaving for dawn patrol."
"Sounds like a good mentor. Maybe for Heronkit?"
The queen's green eyes bored into Faunus's brown pelt. "You still don't trust Honeyfrost do you?"
"Not all," he meowed a little too quickly, shaking his head. Orchidtail looked at him, her head tilted on one side in a look that said oh really now?
"I just don't think you should hurry giving her an apprentice," the loner meowed licking his chest fur awkwardly. "Perhaps wait and see who they get on well with. They need mentors that can be their friends also."
Orchidtail laughed and turned her gaze back to her kits. Littlekit was mewling unhappily and she licked his head softly.
((I can't really use Honeyfrost to mentor Heronkit when I roleplay them both :/ ))
