Whitestar leapt up on the Highrock. A few minutes earlier, he had been sharing a rabbit with Bluepool when she had asked, "So, who's the new deputy gonna be?" He had yelped with a start and called a Clan meeting right then and there. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath Highrock for a Clan meeting!"
Of course, he had already decided on a deputy. Actually, he had not, but he had been thinking about it. Hopefully I'm right! Whitestar sat up on the Highrock and waited for his clanmates to gather below them. Bluepool didn't have to do anything--she merely turned her body so that she was facing the Highrock and not just some corner of camp.
Decisions could be tough. With only four warriors, one might think that it wouldn't have been difficult for Whitestar to choose. Anyone who had that idea was dead wrong. Of course it was an agonizing decision. Right now, his main hope was that nobody got mad at him for not making them deputy.

Green eyes blinking groggily, Flaxeyes crept out from her hiding place to sit beneath the Highrock. Whitestar must be choosing the deputy, she thought. She glanced around the camp, her gaze travelling to each warrior. "I wonder...," she murmured.

Firetail crept out of the warriors den and stretched. He's probably announcing who's going to be deputy. She sat down in front of the warriors den. She glanced around. Not very many choices to pick from, but still, it probably is difficult to choose. She turned her head and gazed up at the Highrock, waiting for Whitestar to begin.

Whitestar cleared his throat before continuing. Most of his Clan had assembled, and that was enough. Well, his future deputy was present. So that would do...right? If all nine members of FrostClan had to be present, then he certainly did not know nor care.
"The time has come to appoint a new deputy. I say these words before StarClan that the spirits of our ancestors may hear and approve my choice." At this point, he paused to take a breath. Silence filled the air. It was strange; Whitestar could hear the birds chirping, the cats around him breathing, and yet he heard nothing.
"Firetail will be the new deputy of FrostClan."

"Congratulations!" Flaxeyes purred with delight. She bounded over to Firetail and touched her nose to the she-cat's flank. "Deputy of FrostClan! You'll be wonderful!"

Skypaw jumped for joy. She was happy that her friend was going to be deputy. "Congrats!" she purred as she walked up to the she-cat. Blackpaw kept quiet. He wanted Flaxeyes to be deputy. /oh well, sorry Flaxeyes/ He walked up to Firetail akwarly. "Congrats," he muttered. "Flaxeyes!" he purred, walking up to her. "Happy to see you on a nice night. It's supposed to get really cold tonight, so I'm getting Skypaw to fetch some more," the black apprentice meowed. "Sure I am," Skyaw hissed. "I'll get some for me and Whitestar only!" she whispered, walking out of camp.

"Thanks guys!" Firetail purred. "Flaxeyes, I'm surprised you didn't get to be deputy." She was extremely surprised that she had been picked, even though there weren't a lot of warriors for Whitestar to choose from.

"Me?" Flaxeyes exclaimed," It wouldn't be wise." She licked her chest fur to show she wasn't bothered and it was true. She wasn't at all bothered. "One, I'm afraid of mice and rats. I sleep during the day. Two, my father is an ex-leader. He may expect me to become leader and take over. Three, Coppertail is deputy of BeachClan. To many problems could arise. Oh! And four, I'm power-hungry." She smiled slyly at the cats. She shoved Blackpaw playfully. "What are you fetching?" she asked,"Moss? Rabbit fur? Wool?"

"Wow." Firetail meowed. She started to feel bad for her and all her problems. She then padded over to Whitestar. She dipped her head to him. "Thank you."

Whitestar smiled. "You're welcome, Firetail," he meowed. "I'm sure that you'll make a great deputy." He glanced over her shoulder at Flaxeyes. "Yeah, I didn't think you'd want to fight Coppertail if we got into a war or something. Of course"--he turned his head so that he was looking at pretty much the whole Clan--"I won't lead us into battle unless we're attacked first or there's some other reason. We don't have many cats, and, quite frankly, I'm not power-hungry. That might be what brought Oceanstar and Amberstar down." Whitestar blinked, surprised at the speech he had just made.

Blackpaw shrugged as he licked his paws. "I'll stay here and collect herbs around camp, there's a jupiter bush over there," he meowed with a flick of his tail. Skypaw padded into camp with moss, only enough for about three cats. "Here Flaxeyes," she hissed flicking a peice of moss to her. "Whitestar!" she purred, "I got some more moss for you, it's supposed to be really cold tonight." Skypaw brushed her black and white pelt against his white, thick coat.

Flaxeyes meowed goodbye to the warriors and picked up the moss Skypaw had given her. She carried it over to the elder's den before dropping it carefully at her paws. "Bluepool?" she called. She wondered if the elderly she-cat was inside or sunbathing. She hadn't spoken to Bluepool in awhile and she missed her sharp tongue.
Rainlight smiled at Firetail in congratulations. She turned to apprentice. "Blackpaw we need marigold, tansy, coltsfoot and some dock leaves. Can you get that?"

"Thanks, Skypaw!" Whitestar mewed before taking the moss off to the warriors' den to deposit it in his nest. His pelt was feeling a bit warm where Skypaw had brushed against him but he didn't think anything of it.
Bluepool slowly walked up behind Flaxeyes before turning a bit so she would pass by the warrior's side. "'Lo, Flaxeyes," she greeted. "Haven't talked to you in a while. How're things going?" She turned around so she was sitting down outside the entrance of her oversized den.

Blackpaw nodded to his mentor, "I think there's some of those growing over by the lake," he meowed. "But I don't think dock leaves grow till greenleaf kicks in," he put in. He turned away toward the camp entrance. "Um, Rainlight, can I take a warrior with me?" he asked, turning back to her.

"Good thank-you Bluepool," she meowed," Did you hear who Whitestar chose to be deputy?" She nudged the ball of moss towards the white queen. "Skypaw got some moss for me but I won't find much use for it. It's going to freeze tonight so I thought you'ld like it."
"Well, I was actually kind of hoping we could go to the herb field together. I thought I could test you on your herb knowledge." Rainlight was hoping to talk to Blackpaw about his medicine cat mating questions. She wondered if it had anything to do with Daisy's 'violations' warning.

"Yep," she meowed, giving her shoulder fur a quick lick. "Firetail, I believe." Bluepool batted the moss backwards into the den with her paw. "Thanks. It's pretty warm in my den, but there's never anyone else in there. We need some retirees...not like anyone's old enough, of course." She frowned slightly. "Thank you nonetheless."

Blackpaw nooded, smiling. "Yeah, I heard it's already Greenleaf down there," he meowed. He nodded and his eyes glittered in the moonlight. "I noticed that we're short on catnip too, and water mint also," he meowed.

All the senior warriors died in the sickness... "Would you like me to stay with you?" she asked," I can keep you company. Now that Whitestar is leader he will robably think he's too busy to visit you. Or go hunting with me..." She looked at the ground sadly, mourning the loss of her closest friend.

Bluepool chuckled softly and her blue eyes sparkled. "That's very nice of you, but you don't have to. Trust me, he'll still visit me. He'll probably be asking me for advice. Whitestar never is--and never was--too busy for his family and friends. Not a very traditional leader." Her expression had changed to a smirk.

"Watermint is great for bellyaches. I also want to get some nettle seeds incase of emergencies. I don't want to take too much catnip. The plant was practically dead in leafbare." Rainlight eyes filled with worry. "I hope we no one gets greencough or whitecough."
Flaxeyes looked up at Bluepool, her eyes bright. "Well, if you don't want me to stay I'm going to ask Firetail and Whitestar about patrols. I don't want Skypaw doing too much because of her shoulder and because of the drowning incident." She smiled at the edler. "Do you think FrostClan will be okay? Whitestar will be a great leader I know it. But there's the sickness, the lack of warriors and she-cats..."

"I don't have any preference if you stay, actually. It's nice to have someone to chat with." Bluepool yawned once before looking back at Flaxeyes. "I'm sure that we'll be fine. The Clan has seen worse times--actually, we haven't--and the other stuff shouldn't be too much to worry about. If Rainlight is right, the sickness is more or less contained to the leader's den. It's no loss to Whitestar. We've got Skypaw who will be a warrior someday, and she's a she-cat too. In fact, we have...nine cats, I believe. There's only three toms, but only two of the she-cats can have kits. Well, I suppose I could if it really came down to it, but it wouldn't be very good for my health. I'd probably die...uh...time to change the subject. I don't feel like talking about my potential death, to tell the truth."

Flaxeyes smiled, a small laugh escaping her lips. "Speaking of my darling apprentice do you know what happened between her and Blackpaw and why she keeps telling Blackpaw that she'll only do things for Whitestar? Before she told Blackpaw she would only fetch moss for herself and him. I'm thinking it's not just because he's leader if you get what I mean."

Bluepool's smirk widened. "Ha." Her tail tip, which was wrapped around her paws, flicked ever so slightly in delight. "There's another thing my Whitestar dearest doesn't fail at...well, does he feel the same way back? Oh, and make sure you tell me about the drowning incident." Her head was inclined forward and her ears were perked up in interest.

Flaxeyes smiled. "I'm not sure if Whitestar even thinks about she-cats. He gets all flustered whenever someone brings it up." Flaxeyes glanced around and leaned in as well. The two she-cats looked very suspious. "I found Blackpaw sulking in his den and asked what had happened. He said he had a fight for Skypaw so I went looking for her. Her trail went to the lake. Whitestar and Blackpaw joined me. Whitestar ran into the water and pulled her out. He became so tired I had to take her off him and place her on the shore. Blackpaw and I warmed her up and she started breathing again. I have no idea what happened between the two of them though. I'm quite baffled."

Bluepool frowned. "Hm. I couldn't imagine what would make them fight like that. Snowfur always got along wonderfully with Whitestar--for the most part anyhow." She stretched her paws in front of herself and lied down. "Apprentices who go to the lake don't usually drown in it, right?"

Blackpaw nodded to his mentor. /And neetle seeds are for?/ he couldn't think of what the herb was for. He would feel like a mouse-brain if he asked Rainlight. /Come on Blackpaw! You're a medicine cat!/ Blackpaw sighed. "Can't believe it." he muttered.

"Can't beleive what?" Rainlight asked, puzzled.
Flaxeyes shook her head and shrugged. "I wouldn't know. Blackpaw and Skypaw are the only apprentices I know. It's not even a proper lake I'm told."

|
|
Post by Tiger on Jun 6, 2008 8:34:09 GMT -5
"What would be a proper lake then?" Bluepool asked. "I really haven't spent a lot of time exploring outside the Clan territory. Do you mean like BeachClan's lagoon? I've heard that it smells awful--murky and fishy." She winced and flicked her ears back at the thought.

"Nothing Rainlight, I'm sorry," he meowed, looking at his black paws. He turned to a watermint bush and picked off the herb. The herb hung in his jaws like a dangling rabbit.

"Well, Cactus told me lakes are more inland and they're huge. They don't have salty water like the lagoon and the bottom is covered in rocks. Cactus called our lake a puddle," Flaxeyes meowed, remembering what her grandfather had once said.
"Come on Blackpaw. We have lot's of things to do today," she meowed, flicking her tail.
((Let's make a board in the Herb Field for Rainlight and Blackpaw))
