Emberlight scoffed, turning away again from her mate. She curled her tail around her two surviving kits and once again, felt the feeling of fatigue. Her eyelids drooped but she snapped them open again. She refused to look at the tortoiseshell. "You're right. It's not my fault. It's not anybody's fault. Grasskit was too weak," she said in a monotone. It was a total lie, but she hoped it worked. Maybe then her Clanmates would leave her alone about it. Let her mourn in peace. Part of her yearned for Duskfur. The other part, she wasn't quite sure of.

She's mad at me now. Why is she mad at me? Her words were contradicted by her tone and body language; it seemed to Duskfur as if what she was really saying was something along the lines of 'Go away, and leave me alone.' He wanted to run away and curl up in a ball somewhere - and he didn't want Emberlight to hate him. Maybe all she needed was a little time to calm down, but he couldn't help but worry that she'd never be able to shake off the guilt. "Please eat the herbs," he whispered weakly. "If you want me go away, I- I will, but please eat the herbs." Well, now I sound pathetic.

Emberlight sniffed and chewed up the herbs. She didn't even gag, which was something for her. She wasn't really tasting them. She didn't answer Duskfur, just put her head in her paws, curling herself around Ripplekit and Sparkkit, and was almost immediately asleep. But she knew...she knew that she was going to get a nightmare.

Duskfur internally sighed in relief as Emberlight finally licked up the herbs. At least he'd been able to do something. When she lowered her head and curled up to sleep, he watched her carefully for a moment, then made for the entrance of the nursery once more. "Quietshadow?" he murmured, looking around for the medicine cat. "She's eaten the herbs... I think she's asleep."
