ooc:// I had no idea what to call this thread xD I haven't roleplayed any of my rogues in ages! This is just a random roleplay with Spider. bic://
A black leather nose wrinkled in disgust and Spider spat water onto the blackened ground. "Yuck! The water is all sooty!" The long limbed black tom danced away, stirring up clouds of ash. The fire had raged through the AquaClan territory before the twolegs had got it under control. Of course, alot of the undergrowth remained but the areas badly hit like were completely charred. He scaled the willow tree elegantly, pleased that it still remained.

Nightshade tasted the air, wincing as she did so. The atmosphere was thick with the bitter scent of a fire gone by. She took a few steps forward, keeping her weight carefully balanced in a hunters' crouch. The rogue looked down at her paws and frowned; they were nearly covered in ash and had changed from their normal pristine white to a powdery gray. She frowned and continued on, being careful not to drag her feet. The last thing she wanted was soot between her toes.

Spider bent crouched on the branch, his claws digging into the slightly charred bark. "Nightshade," he sung loudly, his voice breaking the eerie quiet of the forest. "Nothing will be here for you to hunt." He sprung from the branch and landed as quietly as possible on the burnt ground. The leaves and grass crunched under his black paws as he padded up beside her. Spider's bright yellow eyes picked up Nightshade's paws. "If you roll around in the soot enough you could look like me," he commented.

Nightshade jumped at the sound of Spider's voice, making clouds of ash fly up from from her paws. "Oh, hi, Spider. Heh...didn't expect to see you here." She looked down at her paws with slight disdain. "I don't really want to go through the trouble of cleaning myself afterward. Of course, it'll be easy if I can find a decently clean stream. Was this a fire? I've heard elders' tales about them back home but never really seen one." She looked at Spider, green-yellow eyes reflecting in the sun and adding some color to the otherwise barren landscape.

The black tom purred with amusement as Nightshade jumped. He began coughing as he breathed in the cloud of ash she had stirred up. "Fire was only on AquaClan territory. It started in the forest somewhere and spread," he rasped. "We could go to BeachClan if you want. The water there will be clean. This stuff isn't." He gestured to the stream with disgust. "Trust me. I know." He shuddered as he remembered the bitter taste. That would be the last time he drunk out of water which was a funny colour.

"Sure. Everything here seems quiet," she observed, fur prickling at the very thought of something that could have caused so much destruction so quickly. "I'd like to get this scent out of my fur and I wouldn't mind seeing my half-brother. Have you seen any Clan cats here? I mean, we're on their territory, aren't we?" A solitary crow flew overhead and gave a fleeting caw right when it was over the two cats. Nightshade's muscles stiffened at its appearance.

"Yeah," Spider meowed quietly, ears flattened against his head. "My nose is starting to burn." He had followed the stream up from the rogue nest and from what he had seen most of the territory was like this, slightly charred and eerily quiet. Not a cat or mouse in sight. "This is AquaClan territory," he meowed. "You don't think the cats...died do you?" His yellow eyes were filled with concern. He couldn't imagine what it would be like to slowly suffocate and be burned to death. Spider wouldn't wish that on anyone, not even the Clan cats.

Nightshade winced. "They're Clan cats. Being a former one myself, I know that they do help each other out and that they aren't light sleepers. Someone was bound to have been up and if they weren't, they surely would have woken up. I'm guessing that they've left," she meowed, pausing to take a look around at the burnt land around her. "There would be no point in staying. I haven't seen anything living apart from a few birds and mice skirting the borders. And you, of course."

Spider nodded solemnly. "I hope your right," he meowed," You would know." He gave a weak smile and began padding up along the stream. "Maybe they went across the 'border'. I don't see them as the kind of cats to set up home in the twolegplace." Clan cats living amongst twolegs. That was a sight he would want to see.

"They wouldn't," Nightshade mewed almost instinctively as she followed Spider on the bank of the brook. "Don't you remember when we stayed in the abandoned one and I was really hesitant to? It's part of the warrior code to 'reject the soft life of a kittypet.' They're either off their territory or they're hiding among the ashes." She flinched slightly at the mere thought of an area that had been so devastated by the blaze.

Spider laughed. "You Clan cats really have your prioties wrong. If your Clan was weak and your kits and Elders starving would you simply sit in your brunt out camp and wail how StarClan has doomed you or would you steal out of a kittypet's bowl and eat the fat sparrows in their garden?" He looked at her with mischeivous eyes."I know what option I would take." He ficked ears dismissively and frowned. "Anyway, there's nothing to say that AquaClan isn't off stealing another Clan's food."

"Well, of course not," Nightshade meowed. "You would go where the food is. Typically, Clans put their differences apart and help each other in an emergency. I don't know if it's the same here, but once ValleyClan had a flood and they spent half a moon up with us while they waited for the water to go down." She twitched her whiskers thoughtfully. "They could very well be anywhere, though. There were never any twoleg nests up near our territory. The only time you'd see one would be when they would scale the mountain." She paused for a moment to catch her breath and answered Spider's final comment. "There will be blood if they are. Even though there's plenty of prey out here, Clanners don't take kindly to their prey being stolen."

"Ah," Spider murmured in thought. "So, AquaClan would quite possibly be with another Clan..." This idea was remarkably much better than his and frankly, he didn't want to be involved in another fight. "Let's go see your brother than," he announced," He might have news and there will be prey in BeachClan." He turned to her smiling before adding," I don't mind stealing prey."

"Eh, I'll steal it from the Clans," Nightshade meowed, "seeing as I don't have to live by the warrior code anymore. But I don't like being around twolegs or in their nests. It's just too weird for me. Let's go." She flicked her tail, yawned, and stretched before looking around. "You do know the way to BeachClan, don't you?" Silently, she added the words because I don't. In fact, she didn't have the faintest idea which Clan this tree was in...until Spider told her, of course.

Spider laughed happily. He loved having Nightshade around because her Clan upbringing made everything so amusing. It was like seeing the world through a new pair of eyes. Even if he did believe her view of life was mixed up. "Of course I do," he snorted, rolling his eyes. "We just follow this stream to the river - No. That's not right. The stream goes to the Wetlands. I think." To be honest, Spider had never really travelled through the AquaClan territory. But he wasn't going to admit that.

"Well, is there anyone around we can ask?" Nightshade meowed, voice airy yet sarcastic at the same time. "Or would it just be better to wander around Clan territory for a few days until we find something that smells beach-y." She frowned slightly as she tried to remember Quietshadow's scent. It had a hint of something that was vaguely similar to hers, but had a tang of something else--fish, perhaps?

"I don't need directions," Spider meowed, just as was expected of the typical male. "I know if we follow the stream until it widens we are in BeachClan." He looked around the area, his eye searching for a familiar land mark. "I just can't remember what way we follow the stream," he added softly, his ears turning red with embrassment.

"Uhm. I know that streams flowing down lead to valleys," Nightshade meowed softly. "But I'm guessing that it's pretty flat around here...do you know which side of the river leads to...rogue territory?" The she-cat had paused before saying rogue, wondering if there was some other terminology for the place she called home. She glanced at the stream for a brief moment before turning her gaze back to Spider.

"Um, I didn't cross any streams to get here," Spider meowed awkwardly," Did you come from the twoleg nests?" They were truly and utterly lost. The black tom couldn't even recall which direction no cat's land was in. Everything looked different because of the fire. "Let's just follow the stream," he meowed softly," If we're lucky maybe some Clan cat will give us directions..."

"No, like I said, I stay clear of those. I don't have any idea where I came from, though," she meowed, frowning slightly. "The follow-the-river plan sounds like a go. Even if we spend days wandering in the wrong direction, we'll still be able to eat and drink." She looked up at Spider, blinking her bright yellow-green eyes once, waiting for him to start the journey.

Spider groaned. "I certaintly hope not! That water is no better than mud and my fishing skills are rather meegar." He looked at Nightshade who seemed to be waiting for something. His yellow eyes widened in astonishment when he realised she was waiting for him. He cleared his throat once before making his announcement. "Upstream and to wherever it leads!" He turned quickly and began walking at a quick pace. "This is going to be fun!" he meowed," Do you think Quietshadow would be surprised to see us?"

Nightshade bounded after Spider, kicking up ash as she followed. "It is," she admitted sheepishly. "I've never really fished before in my life so we're both incompetent together." She collected her step so that she would remain roughly next to the tom and meowed, "I bet he'll be. I don't know what his leader will think, but then again, I don't really care."

The black tom gave a hearty purr. "His leader can go eat crowfood! You're family, even if you are a rogue." He smiled at Nightshade as he ran. "Apart from Quietshadow," he asked," Do you have any other siblings?" He wasn't sure if she had told him before, but he liked hearing her speak about Clan life. It seemed so fascinating compared to the life of a rogue. Once, just once, he had thought about joining a Clan but he had ran off as soon as he glimpsed a 'warrior'.

Nightshade laughed loudly. "You got that right! I don't have any other siblings here that I know of, but I have two sisters from my mom's first litter. It was with another tom, though, and I don't know if she's had any more kits since. Nor do I know if Coalfur has sired any more," she added grimly. The rogue trotted on for a moment, drawing in the tangy scent of fire before adding, "He never came off as a loyal, caring type of cat to me."

Spider nodded solemnly. "I don't know what happened to my siblings," he meowed," I don't remember much about them...or what happened to my mother." He looked out across the stream, daydreaming of better times. His earliest memories were of him playing with a sister and a brother. He recalled their sweet scents and their cries as a twoleg picked them up and carried them away... He remembered how his mother, Raven, wailed and wept for her stolen kits, how she left him and Dream in the garden for their father to collect. He sniffed sadly. "It was always just Dream and me together," he meowed softly," Just the two of us."

Nightshade gave a slow, soft sigh. "I know what you mean," she mewed, voice just louder than a whisper. "I never had any siblings and there were never any other cats my own age...and I had been a mediocre fighter and hunter--you know the story, right?--and then I came here and I learned. It's like having family again." She flicked her tail through the air and looked down.

Spider nodded in agreement. His only companion had been Dream and his father had been the one to train the both of them. Then his father had died, Dream had ran away and he joined the rogue nest in a desperate attempt to make 'friends' but ended up leaving anyway. When Nightshade mentioned that coming here, to the forest, had given her a family again he looked at her in surprise. He knew that she had found Quietshadow but that was all. Unless she meant...him? Because he had helped her learn to hunt and fight again? Or because he seemed to follow her everywhere... "Nightshade?" he asked," Do you count me as family or...?" He trailed off, unsure what he was asking.

"Well..." Nightshade scuffed her paw in the mixture of ashes and dirt that carpeted the ground. "You mean a lot to me," she mewed softly, trying her best to avoid his question. Apart from being absolutely nothing like her normal self, Nightshade was frantically racking her brain to describe the way she felt about Spider. Does he think the same thing about me that I think I think about him? My own mind is confusing me...

Spider tilted his head curiousily, his face reflecting Nightshade's awkward embrassment as she tried to answer his question. When she answered his eyes lit up and he felt his heart flutter with... with...well, he wasn't sure what emotion he was feeling. He felt nervous, surprised, slightly embrassed again and relieved. Deep down, he guessed, that was the answer he had been hoping for. Spider was relieved she hadn't simply shrugged and meowed,' Well, it's not like we have anybody else, do we?' "You mean alot to me too, Nightshade," he whispered, his voice becoming slightly shrill as it did when he was forced to admit to things he didn't really want to admit. He ducked his head, the inside of his ears blushing pink.

Nightshade gave a nervous laugh and quickly looked down, scuffing her white paws in the dirt once more. He does think the same thing I think...but now what do I do about it!? Or aren't I supposed to do anything? I don't know anything about--love? Dare I say love? She twitched her tail stiffly as she interrupted her own thoughts. Just shut up already and don't do anything completely mousebrained! "That'll be kind of hard," she muttered dryly to herself, regretting the words the instant they left her lips. What if Spider had heard her and asked about what she said? Would she honestly reply with 'Oh, just talking to myself'?
