Applesong followed the others into the RainClan camp. Here we are at last, she thought. After waiting so long. Her stomach grumbled, and she glanced over at the fresh-kill pile longingly.

Doveheart padded into RainClan's camp, glancing around. She felt herself draw closer to Ravenclaw, realizing too late. She leapt away, then focused on the task at hand. Delivering Whitestar's message.
A black and ginger tom padded over to the patrol, eyeing the FrostClan warriors suspiciously. "What do they want?" he rasped, directing his question to Honeyfrost and Applesong.

Applesong stepped forward and dipped her head respectfully to Darkstorm, the elder. She had expected Ravenclaw to announce the FrostClan cats, but something was completely distracting him.
“Doveheart and Flaxeyes say they have a special message for Hawkstar from Whitestar. We escorted them from the lake to our camp.” Applesong waited for the elder’s reaction.

Darkstorm nodded, considering the situation. "Alright. Where's Hawkstar?" The elder looked around, but didn't spot the black and white tom. "Hm. I don't see him." He coughed, then turned toward the black and white she-cat and the tortoiseshell tabby she-cat.
Doveheart backed away slightly from the elder. She felt very self conscious in the RainClan camp. Not to mention just a short while ago she felt self conscious in her own camp. She just wanted to deliver the message and get out of here. "Could he be in his den?"

Woodpaw finally limped back into the camp after the patrol, his sped-up breathing and drooping ears showing his exhaustion. The desire to keep hunting had pretty much left him - as well as how tired he was, the paw that had been injured earlier still stung. However, he was still as desperate as ever to know what the secret message was. "Applesong?" He murmured to the ginger she-cat, stumbling up beside her. "Now that we're back, are those cats gonna tell us the special message?" He pointed at the FrostClan she-cats with his tail, and gave his injured paw a couple of quick licks.

"I'm right here." Hawkstar pushed his way through the camp entrance, padding through the ring of cats that were surrounding their guests. Applesong, Flaxeyes and Doveheart. "I scented Frostclan and came back as quickly as I could. I welcome you as friends in our camp." he dipped his head in greeting, a friendly smile on his handsome face, but his eyes were curious. "Now what is it that you wish to tell me?"

Before Applesong had a chance to respond to Woodpaw, Hawkstar appeared. She gave Woodpaw a quick wink. "Don't worry, they will," she mewed softly. "Just keep your ears pricked." She turned to look at his injured paw and changed her mind. She gave Woodpaw a comforting lick on the ear. "Then again," she meowed, "you might go rest in the apprentice's den. I'll tell you the message when I get a chance." Then, Applesong turned her full attention to the two FrostClan cats.

Doveheart looked toward him. "Er..." She looked toward Flaxeyes for help, but she couldn't even catch her eye. "Well, FrostClan's warriors Goldenleaf and Flamestep were attacked by a badger and they said it fled into RainClan territory. Whitestar thought it best that someone inform you of the situation." She shook slightly at each word. Even though Hawkstar was young, she felt intimidated by any leader. Well, every leader except Whitestar. She licked her chest, hoping to head her quaking body, but she doubted it.

Flaxeyes, who had been off in her own little world, was now following everyones conversations again. She dipped her head to Hawkstar and added to what Doveheart had said. "We're not sure if the badge made it over the stream though but there's plenty of low patches where it could cross. We were concerned that it would attack one of your patrols. Skypaw said that the warriors managed to give it some decent wounds so it may not be a threat."
Orchidtail padded forward and brushed herself against Hawkstar's side. "I'm tired," she whispered," I think I'll go sleep. In the Nursery most likely." She smiled and flicked her stump of a tail.
Tussockpaw was watching Applesong carefully. "What is she playing at?" he mumurmed," Woodpaw is Wolfheart's apprentice not hers."
Honeyfrost overheard his murmuring and cuffed him over the head with a paw. "Hush," she hissed.
He glared at her and skulked off. Better go tell Woodpaw and Maplepaw about the badger...

"Well, I am kinda tired," Woodpaw murmured. He forced himself to get up, and began limping toward the apprentice den. Oh, right! Special message first! He spun back around. The she-cats were talking to Hawkstar, but Woodpaw couldn't pick up what they were saying with his tired ears. He would have gone back to the group of warriors to ask them, but it looked like Tussockpaw was already coming toward him. He'll tell me.

Hawkstar's young face suddenly looked tired and worried, like a cat many moons older than him. Not a badger, they could not afford injuries and death in the clan. "Thank you for the warning friends." he said, giving them a thankful smile. Now, since it seems we have a badger problem, Honeyfrost, Applesong, and Darkstorm will escort you back. And for the rest of you, until we are sure this badger is out of our territory, all cats leaving the territory must be in groups of two or more." he said, finishing by looking around at all the cats to be sure. When Orchidtail pressed against him, he smiled lightly, licking her cheek. "Alright, I'll come and visit you later." he said quietly in her ear.

Darkstorm sat down heavily. "Hawkstar, I can't bring these FrostClan cats back! I'm getting too old." He grumbled to himself. It weakened him to believe his life was going to be over soon. He felt it looming somewhere close, waiting for the perfect chance to strike. Death. He shuddered.
Doveheart hissed to herself when the black tom's name wasn't mentioned. She couldn't do this! She was from FrostClan. He was from RainClan. Nothing could work between them. She dipped her head to Hawkstar. "Thank you, Hawkstar." She realized that he had thanked them..."I mean, your welcome, Hawkstar. And thank you." She bit her tongue, attempting to shut herself up. She stopped when she felt the bitter taste of her own blood in her mouth. Mouse-brain!

Ravenclaw finally jerked back to reality when he heard Doveheart's hiss. Huh? Oh, right the message. He listened to Hawkstar's last words to the patrol. A badger? Great! More trouble... Wait I'll go with them! He realized what he had just thought. Wait! What am I thinking? He glanced over at Doveheart. We aren't meant to be... Or, are we? He jerked his gaze away from Doveheart to Hawkstar. "What about the patrol? We still haven't marked the border." He asked.

Flaxeyes smiled at Hawkstar. He had called them friends. "We would feel guilty if you had got hurt and we hadn't said anything," she meowed, the tips of her ears turning red. Flaxeyes noticed Doveheart's awkwardness and decided it was time to go. "We better be off now," she meowed quickly, padding back towards the camp entrance.
Her sister, Honeyfrost, was busy thinking up the best ways to tackle a badger when Hawkstar mentioned they would have to start leaving the camp in groups. A sudden thought struck her. "Um, Hawkstar," she meowed," What about Wolfheart and Spottedfrost? They went out about dawn on that little mission you gave Wolfheart. They won't know about the badger."
Desertflower padded into camp carrying two mice and a squirrel. She had scented FrostClan and hurried back. "Why is FrostClan here?" she meowed, dropping her prey," And what is this I hear about a badger?"
"Badger crossed from FrostClan to RainClan," Flaxeyes told the rich ginger and gold queen. "Doveheart and I came to tell Hawkstar but we're leaving now."
Desertflower's eyes widened and looked to Ravenclaw and the other warriors. "Is that true?" she meowed fearfully," There's a badger in RainClan?"
Tussockpaw joined Maplepaw and Woodpaw in the apprentice den. "Flaxeyes and Doveheart say there's a badger in RainClan!" he announced in a harsh whisper.

Hawkstar nodded to Darkstorm. "You are right, Desertflower shall take your place on the escort." he replied, then turned his head to Ravenclaw as he spoke. It was true, but warriors on escort and patrol... "Alright, Ravenclaw, you and Tussockpaw can start the border patrol, then meet up with the escort, just to be safe, okay?" he ordered, then sighed. This badger was already wearing him out. He looked to Honeyfrost, frowning. "They are capable warriors, but when you escort Frostclan out, see to it that you check to see if you can find them, to at least warn them." he said, nodding to the surrounding cats. "Now, I will be in my den or the nursery if any has anymore questions." he said, turning to go into his den.

Applesong got up to her feet and looked around. She kind of wanted to stay with Woodpaw and make sure he was okay, but she also wanted to make sure the clan was safe. “Let’s get going,” Applesong said to Desertflower, Honeyfrost and Ravenclaw. “The sooner we leave, the sooner we can return.” I’m so hungry I could eat kittypet pellets! She also wanted to find Spottedfrost and Wolfheart and warn them about the badger. Applesong scampered out of camp and tried to set a good pace for the others.

Doveheart padded after Applesong, hoping to make space between her and Ravenclaw so her heart would stop beating so fast. She fell into step beside the orange warrior at the front. "How are things in RainClan other than the badger warning?"

Ravenclaw dipped his head to Hawkstar before he returned to the leaders' den. He padded over to the apprentices' den and poked his head inside. He scanned the den for his apprentice. He finally spotted the tom sitting next to Woodpaw and Maplepaw. "Tussockpaw, we're going to catch up with the escort in a few moments to mark the border." He meowed. "Are you ready?"

Applesong turned her head slightly toward Doveheart. "We've been doing fine," she mewed sweetly. Why would Doveheart be interested in our welfare? Maybe she's trying to get information from us; trying to find out our weaknesses, Applesong thought. She wished the two FrostClan cats would keep to themselves on the way back to the FrostClan border. She didn’t trust Doveheart even if she had brought an important message to Hawkstar. “Friends” he had called them. Ha!
Applesong understood the connection between Honeyfrost and Flaxeyes; they were sisters. But, she felt no such bond to Doveheart, who had acted strange this whole journey. She was up to something. Applesong felt certain. It was so irritating!

"A badger?" Woodpaw gasped when he heard the message. "That's awesome!" Suddenly realizing what he had just said, he quickly added, "Well - Well not like that, I mean, but it's pretty cool that the secret message was about something really important, and - never mind, I'm confused. I'll be quiet now." His silence didn't last long, however; when Ravenclaw appeared at the entrance asking Tussockpaw to come on the border patrol with him, he pulled himself to his feet. "Can I come?" He asked, though he knew he was still tired. "I never got to go hunting..."

Honeyfrost nodded to Hawkstar and joined her sister again. Silly badger has ruined all my plans. I was meant to be going out with Owlfoot. That badger better not show its face around here. "I hope Wolfheart and Spottedfrost are okay," she meowed, concern for her Clan mates winning over her selfish wants. " They may be great warriors but two cats can't possibly take on an agitated badger can they?"
"I'm sure they're fine," Desertflower meowed, padding alongside Honeyfrost. She was slightly annoyed that she had to go straight from a hunting outing to a border patrol/escort. Haven't even had time to eat. I'm not as young as I used to be.
Honeyfrost nodded and glanced over to Applesong and Doveheart. The two warriors were acting strange towards one another. "Is it me or do they seem awfully ...tense or nervous to you?"
Flaxeyes frowned. "Doveheart is usually nervous. She's probably just afraid of Applesong. Is that her name?"
Honeyfrost nodded meekly and decided to spare the FrostClan warrior from Applesong's prickly attitude. Something the usually harsh she-cat wouldn't do. "Doveheart," she called, putting on her sweet, friendly face. "Would you like to walk with me and Flaxeyes?"
Tussockpaw came racing after the group, excited that Ravenclaw wanted him to come again. He had meowed a quick goodbye to his injured sister and the tired Woodpaw before dashing out of camp.
I'm going to find that smelly badger and chase it out of RainClan! Then I'll get my warrior name and all the other apprentices will be so jeleous! Only a wide smile on his face showed what he was thinking.

Doveheart gladly dropped back from the prickly she-cat. She padded alongside Flaxeyes silently, glancing up at Applesong wearily. I understand I'm an enemy warrior, but Hawkstar trusts us! She drooped her head a little, sighing.

Thank you, Honeyfrost, thought Applesong. She couldn’t imagine having to make small talk with Doveheart all the way back to the border.
Pretty soon, Applesong saw Ravenclaw and Tussockpaw catching up. Tussockpaw seemed to have gotten a second wind. As they approached, Applesong mewed to them, “Race you to that tree!” Maybe they could catch some fresh-kill while they waited for the others to catch up.

"Sorry Woodpaw, but you need to get some rest. Maybe another time when you're not so tired." Ravenclaw meowed. He raced out of camp, catching up with Tussockpaw. "Lets see if you can beat me there." He meowed to his apprentice, racing over to the tree Applesong was walking towards, trying to test his apprentice's speed. Passing, the two FrostClan cats and his clanmate.

Woodpaw settled back down into his nest with a sigh. "Tussockpaw gets to do everything, doesn't he?" he murmured, though he tried his best to keep a joking tone. He glanced over at Maplepaw. As soon as she's better, I bet she'll be just as good as her brother. He curled into a ball and closed his eyes, falling asleep almost immediately.

OOC: Answer to both your questions.
Appledapple: Spottedfrost is struggling her way to the camp with Wolfheart. They've blinded the badger but Wolfheart passed out. The badger won't be a problem now.
Jaystar: FrostClan has come to warn RainClan about a badger. Two warriors from FrostClan fought off a badger and it fled into RainClan territory. Doveheart and Flaxeyes came to warn RainClan and Hawkstar ordered every cat to leave with a buddy. But Spottedfrost and Wolfheart didn't hear it because they had gone out hunting. The two warriors came across the badger and hid, but decided to fight the badger. They blinded the badger and Wolfheart passed out, because of a blow to the head. Spottedfrost is inching her way to camp with Wolfheart.

Tussockpaw laughed meerily and raced ahead to the tree. "You can't beat me," he yowled," I'm the fastest cat in RainClan." He beamed proudly before being cuffed over the ear by his mother.
"Don't be so proud," she meowed," It will only get you in trouble."
Honeyfrost smiled at Doveheart. "You have a very pretty name," she meowed sweetly," It must been you are as nice and peaceful as a dove is."
"And you are the colour of honey, nearly as sweet but with a cold attitude," Flaxeyes laughed.
Honeyfrost glared at her sister.
Orchidtail yawned and curled up in her nest in the Nursery. It wouldn't be long before she would be caring for several kits of her own. I hope they will all be safe. Even though the Clan will care for them how will I know that the badger won't slip past...?
ooc: The FrostClan warriors should return now and let RainClan look after their injured warriors.

"Thanks, Honeyfrost," she meowed softly. As they reached the border, Doveheart stopped. "Thank you. I hope the badger doesn't cause too much trouble." She dipped her head to the RainClan patrol. She crossed onto her side of the border, waiting for Flaxeyes to say her goodbye to Honeyfrost and everyone else.
