Skylight walked into the Open Field alone. Her white and black coat didn't really blend in, well, the black part. She opened her mouth to drink in the air and smelled a small amount of prey. "Great, I'll probably go back empty pawed again." she meowed stubbornly. She then noticed a mouse looking a small bite to eat. She smiled and went into a hunting crouch. She really didn't have a lot of practice hunting in this part of her territory. Then she remember. In open fields instead of undergrowth, pounce instead of stalk, the prey won't see you until the last second. she remember her father's words as hunting with him at night. Skylight pounced, hitting the mouse with a swift paw. She purred and buried the mouse with a mound of snow. She covered the area with the only green leaf insight. She was surprised that their actually was a green leaf out in the middle of leafbare. The black-and-white she-cat crept forward, seeing a bird, cardinal, but on the other side of the border. She looked around. There's no Aquaclan in their territory now, maybe I can take one bird. Nervously she pounced and bit hard into the bird's neck. Running back onto Frostclan territory, she noticed she only went only a fox length over the border. She went back to her green leafed marking and buried her bird now. She then was out of breath. Skylight climbed into a pine tree to hide herself and think.
The fact of my heart breaking every time I see him and not telling him I love him. What is wrong with me! I'm too shy to tell him. He'll probably go off and find another she-cat. Whitestar, can't you just see that I love you? Her mind buzzed until she finally fell asleep. She could see Whitestar and her hunting in another territory, then laughing and smiling and- and. She woke up gasping for breath. "Whitestar!" she called. She noticed she was lying at the bottom of the pine tree. She had quite a headache now thanks to her rolling off the branch.

Whitestar crept through the snow, each step producing a soft crunching noise. He was practically a walking, fluffy, red-eyed snowdrift. Bluepool had told him that Skylight had just ran off somewhere after their conversation. She advised Whitestar to leave her alone, that she would come back, but he ignored his mother's words and set off to find the warrior. For a while, he had been tracking her footprints, but the glare hurt his eyes so he decided to just follow her scent. The leader felt like he was going in circles and that he had been doing so for minutes on end...until he smelled the faint aroma of fresh-kill. He followed it and found the mound where she had buried the prey. Since the scent of the bird and mouse was mingled with Skylight's, he had to assume that she had been there and caught the prey. Whitestar began to try and pick up the scent again before stopping dead in his tracks. I can just look for her pelt! The black patches should stand out in the snow...what kind of leader am I to not think of that? Following the plan, he soon spotted her lying at the base of a pine. He felt his heart skip a beat. Is she dead? Is she hurt? Whitestar rushed over to the tree and stood next to Skylight, legs slightly shaking. "Are--are you okay?" he asked nervously.

Skylight flinched hearing her leader's voice. "Ah!" she screeched. She swung her head back and foruth. "No, just taking a quick break and closing my eyes." she purred. She stood up. "How did you find me? I can barely smell a thing thanks to all the soot that is in every pawstep." she murmured. The black-and-white she-cat streched, her paws out in front of her. She stood back together. "Want to hunt?" she offered with somewhat of a crooked smile.

"Paw prints," Whitestar admitted sheepishly. "Then doing that started to hurt my eyes, so I tried to follow your scent. That got too hard after a while, but I found your fresh-kill pile and then it occurred to me to just look for your fur. It would stand out in the snow. And...that's how I found you." He paused for a moment to fluff his pelt before adding, "I'd like to hunt."

Skylight smiled and laughed at Whitestar. She then kicked a pile of snow and it landed ontop of Whitestar's face. "Too bad you've got a white pelt." she laughed. Running away playfully she noticed a mouse running along a oak tree. "Perfect," she whispered. Dropping to the ground she jumped, killing the mouse with a bite in the neck. She purred and walked it over to her wonderful pile. "I bet you can't catch me." she teased. Running as fast as she could she noticed a large cedar tree. She pounced high and grabbed onto the tree trunk. Skylight rapped her paws around it and started to climb. She opened her mouth, smelling Whitestar's sweet sent. She then laughed and lost her grip. She landed on the ground on her feet and laughed. "You got me!" Even though Whitestar hadn't gotton to her yet, she meowed defeat.

Whitestar shook the snow from his pelt and ran playfully after Skylight, kicking up the white powder with his heels. His pink eyes sparkling with delight, he sprinted up to her and turned sharply to the left at the last second, launching his thin frame into the air and twisting as he soared. Although his landing was less than graceful, the snow helped him remain on his feet--and it did a bit of good for his appearance as well; the flakes clinging to the white fur gave his pelt a crystalline sparkle in the midday sun. "Almost got you," he purred, making a sudden turn and going after Skylight again. Whitestar exaggerated every turn he made in the snow so that a pure white spray of ice crystals would fly from the ground as his paws whipped by them.

Skylight playfully pounced at Whitestar. She jumped over, as she planned, flying into a big pile of snow she was almost white as her leader, showing only small black patches. "You'll never be able to catch me furball!" her joke made her chuckled. Leaping over Whitestar again she twisted to fade into a pine tree. Climbing quickly she noticed how high she was. I'm a Beachclan warrior too, I can jumped high. Glaring at the ground she pounced, soaring as if she was flying. Landing on the ground, she skidded to a halt infront of Whitestar. "See, now the expression is when Skylight doesn't fly," she purred. Get it? Instead of hedgehogs fly! Her thinking to herself was making her laugh more than ever. She touched noses to Whitestar. Sitting next to him made her feel all warm inside. For some reason, she thinks she really loved this tom.

Whitestar made a strange noise that was like a laugh but with a faint undertone of purring. He enjoyed wasting an afternoon that could otherwise be used for something constructive by running through snow with Skylight. Being with her was like the way Orchidtail and Hawkstar had described "love" at the Gathering: He felt happy and complete. No matter what problems his clan was facing and no matter who Skylight's mother was, he knew deep down that he was completely and utterly in love with her as well. (Her being Skylight, not Icestar. That would be scary.)

Skylight slowed down and walked up to Whitestar. She sat next to him, her pelt pushed into his. "Whitestar," she began, she let out a sigh before going on, "I love you." She smiled at Whitestar, hoping that his responce wasn't like ewwwww run away!! She new her life had another life to her, her family. Her family had lived in Beachclan, except Blackleaf. Only a few cats new who her mother was, and she didn't feel ashamed of the fact of it. "Whitestar, I've always loved you, since my apprentice days." She confessed. She loved how he was different from the rest of the cats, his pink eyes, younger cat, everything. His small figure reminded her of her mother's.

Whitestar blinked once before resting his muzzle on Skylight's shoulders. "I have to admit that I've felt the same way about you," he meowed in barely a whisper. "I took a bit of a fancy to you as an apprentice and it didn't worry me--there's barely six moons age difference between us--but when you became a warrior, I realized what could be wasn't what could be. It was what had to be." He stopped for a moment and lifted the muzzle from her shoulders to give her cheek a quick lick before continuing. "When you got hurt at the battle I carried you to safety with the medicine cats. I've tried to keep you on patrols with me." He too let out a sigh that faded into a low purr.

Skylight looked at Whitestar warmly. "I've always been loyal to you and Frostclan, just because of the warm feeling everytime I see you." She heard Whitestar's warm purr. She did the same thing. She leaned over to lick his cheek, then lean onto his shoulder. "There's nothing that can keep me away from you." She let out a happy sigh and smiled. "No matter what Starclan says, I won't be able to leave your side." Skylight looked up at the sky and say the average white sky about to release flakes of snow.

"What can StarClan say?" Whitestar asked, smiling. "They don't have a problem and I don't either. Of course, there's a certain someone who'll have a problem...we can deal with it." He rested his muzzle on her shoulders once more, drawing in her scent with deep, slow breaths. The large snowflakes fluttered lazily from the clouds above, landing in clumps on his pelt and the trees, making for a perfect day.

Skylight let out a purr, hearing Whitestar's words. "I never understood your words and I still won't." She smiled at turned to him. "Do you know who my mother is?" She asked calmly. Not a lot of cats new who her mother was, only her family, Flaxeyes, and Rainlight, as so she new. She was afraid of her life because of her 'family curse' that Starclan punishes them for doing things against the warrior code. Like for example: she was lost for quite a time, and didn't find Frostclan until she was eight moons old. Her father was taken away by twolegs two sunrises after her birth, and Morningstar's mate dieing a moon after her kits were born.

"I think I do," he meowed apprehensively. "I heard Hawkstar and Orchidtail discussing it at the Gathering--I had asked them for some advice--and they said Icestar. Were they right?" Whitestar could tell by the slightly sinking feeling in his stomach that Skylight would say yes. It wasn't that he would leave Skylight if the rumor was confirmed--he would never want to nor be able to do that--but he would certainly be scared out of one of his lives if his mother-in-law were to find out who her daughter loved.

"Yes, they were right, but she knows how it is to love someone, she broke the warrior code to be with my father, Stormcloud, and Morningstar and Blackleaf did the same." Her voice was calm but serious. "My mother love Stormcloud, and left the clan for a short time, Blackleaf and I ran off, and were never seen again, until we found Frostclan." She looked up at the sky. "Starclan led us to Frostclan, and only they know why, probably to keep the secret, they had punished our family ever since." She looked back at Whitestar. "There is nothing to be afraid of, we won't be breaking the warrior code in anyway right now." Her promise made her smile. Well, Whitestar is a tom, I'm a she-cat, I'm not in line to be leader, so I won't be breaking the code in anyway, but what about Blackleaf. Her tail fell to the ground quickly. She then rapped it around Whitestar's shoulder. "My mother won't hate you, no worries." She noticed Whitestar's worried eyes. "Nothing to be afraid of, she's very nice trust me. She just doesn't want to show other clans that she is too soft."

Whitestar cocked his head. Blackleaf? He decided not to push the issue with her. "I know." He turned his face away from Skylight to sneeze before returning his muzzle to its previous position atop her shoulderblade. "You don't have to worry about Bluepool," he meowed. "She'll be thrilled." She's always wanted grandkits. Of course, I'm sure she already has an idea about it. Mom knows everything about me...it's scary. His pink eyes widened at the thought of Bluepool watching him for every moment of every day. Whitestar despised being scolded by his own mother for talking to his friends while he had fresh-kill in his mouth. I'd never get a break...do all elders become nosy like that?

Skylight looked at Whitestar. "Bluepool will be fine, and everyone else will too." She turned her head to look at him. "It's cold out here," she complained. She stood up and ruffled her fur. Her nose suddenly became runny and her belly felt like it was frozen, do you want to take the fresh-kill back before Bluepool complains it's frozen." she joked. She then sat back down and pushed her pelt against Whitestar, trying to get warm.

"We should probably do that," he agreed, wrapping his tail around Skylight. "Of course, it probably won't last long enough in the pile to freeze. I've heard a lot about what cats will do for food when there isn't any. It's scary." Whitestar frowned at the thought. He wasn't about to let FrostClan starve--he'd give up his own meals so his clanmates could eat--and he was simply concerned with having everybody survive the winter.

"Frostclan is suffering because of this weather, squrriels fall asleep, birds fly away, and mice are no where to really be found! Why can't we live somewhere else!" She hissed quickly, then shut her mouth, noticing she was using a fiece tone. "Sorry, it's not your fault, I'm just used to Beachclan weather, for some reason, it's in my fur, I love the weather there." she meowed, she looked at her thin coat.

"There's nowhere to go," Whitestar meowed simply. "FrostClan has survived here for seasons and I don't see any reason why we can't live here now. The clan is growing and it's almost scary...the reason why FrostClan has always had such a small population is because we don't have a lot of food. So BeachClan could probably manage to double its number of warriors without experiencing any shortage but we're walking a fine line between satiation and starvation. I have no idea what that means, but Mom always said it," he added hastily.

Skylight purred. She still never new what he meant, all she new that she was always lost in his pinkish red eyes. She licked his cheek. "Then lets go before I freeze." She stood up and trotted over to her pile, she flicked her tail, hoping Whitestar would get the clue of helping her. "I hope you're not tired, we have some food to feed the clan." Skylight let out a purr. She did a lot of hunting today. She picked up a cardinal and a mouse. She flicked another mouse to Whitestar. "You can carry that if it's not too big for you," she teased. She loved messing with Whitestar. She loved the way he reacted and everything.

"It's not," Whitestar meowed, pretending to be offended. To prove his point, he opened his jaws widely and picked up the two plump mice remaining in the pile. He then mumbled something before rolling his eyes, dropping the fresh-kill, and meowing, "But now I can't talk." He fluffed his pelt. "We'd probably freeze in camp if it weren't for all the cats around us. The warriors' den is just a tangle of roots. I'll try and see if we can put up some fallen branches or something for shelter."

"Yeah, we need a lot more shelter. Even though the clan is small, it will help once we get Flaxeyes' kits back. She could've had a lot." Skylight meowed. She started to walk toward camp. "So who should be doing the apprentice duties for the next six moons, I've been doing them ever since I started training, and I haven't stopped." She spat. She hated those stupid duties even more than a fox hates a badger.

"I'll get someone else to do them," he assured Skylight, privately noting that he would probably be on moss duty for a while--Whitestar didn't want to get any of his warriors mad at him for having to do apprentice work. "I wonder if she's had her kits yet. Blackleaf is in BeachClan helping out. Maybe he'll come once she's had them and tell us about them. It's exciting. Apparantly her kits'll be the first ones born in FrostClan since Snowfur and me. Well, not in FrostClan in this case, but to a FrostClan cat."

Skylight purred. "Maybe we can assign warriors to do it everyday. Or Bluepool can pick?" Her suggestion made her chuckle. "That will be exciting to apprentice one of the-" She ended quickly. She didn't want to be a mentor, but it would be exciting. She would love to be a mentor! "Do you think we can grow larger quickly if we keep up training and learn new fighting skills from each other, or make up things, we can be unstopable." She sounded excited, even though she was.

"We can probably add it to normal warrior duties for the time being," Whitestar mewed lightly. "Changing moss isn't going to kill anyone. And it's not like we have a lot to hunt right now, so there won't be a lot of time spent patrolling." He yawned. "Fighting should wait. We don't have a lot of food to keep up with the extra energy we would need from extra training. Besides, being huge and muscular isn't always a fighting advantage." The leader stretched to show off his thin frame. "I've noticed that small cats are generally faster, although stocky ones typically have a bit more toughness to them. We can discuss this back in the warriors' den...I'm getting cold." Whitestar picked up the fresh-kill again and shook the rapidly accumulating snow from his pelt. He was now glad that the sleeping sickness lived in the snow-covered barrel; it gave him an excuse to be squashed with the rest of the clan under a tangle of tree roots. Even though the leaf-bare tree didn't provide a lot of shelter, body heat was sufficent to keep most of the thick-pelted FrostClan warm.
