Firetail sat outside the warriors den, " Another day." No one seemed to be up and about yet except her. She breathed in the fresh scent of dawn. She got up and stretched her legs, she then yawned. Firetail walked over to the fresh-kill pile and examined it. It was almost empty. She thought to herself," Maybe I'll go hunting in a little bit."

Whitefire slunk out of the warriors' den and yawned. "Hey, Firetail," he mewed casually. "What's up? I have to take a mouse to Bluepool; the Clan'll have to share those two squirrels until we can get hunting." He picked up the fresh-kill by its skinny tail and trotted over to the elder's den. Not wanting to awake the sleeping Bluepool, he gently placed the mouse down in front of her face and returned to the clearing. "Mom is still asleep. I think the rest of the Clan is too."

"I guess so," Firetail meowed. Her stomach began to growl."I'm hungry, but I can wait until after we go hunting."

"We can go now before anyone else gets up. Flaxeyes and Fleetclaw should be able to take care of camp on their own. I'm sure you've noticed that Amberstar has been keeping to her den for a while now." He blinked, nervous. "Leadership here is cursed." The albino tom yawned and stretched. "Ready?"

"Yes it is cursed." She meowed. "So lets get going."

"Okay. The prey is running...well, not good, but better than it has in leaf-bare. We'll have the best luck up by the lake." The deputy shook his pelt and yawned before beginning to pad out of camp. With a flick of the tail, he motioned for Firetail to follow.

Firetail stretched and shook her pelt as well. Then padded over and started to follow.

A mouse scampered out of a holly bush and across the path where the cats were walking. Whitefire pounced on the prey, quickly killing it with a swipe of his paw. He took the fresh-kill in his mouth and kicked a mixture of dirt and decomposing, dead leaves over it. "Whew. Only nine mouths to feed, not too hard, eh?"

"No it won't be." Firetail scented the air, there was a rabbit nearby. She got into the hunting position. After a few moments the rabbit came into view. Then she ponced on the prey killing it with a swipe. She put it next to the mouse Whitefire had just killed, and put some dirt and leaves over it. She sighed."Even though this is easy. We need more warriors in FrostClan."

"Well, there's not much to do about that, now, is there?" he asked, looking at a squirrel in a budding maple tree. "We have to have kits in the Clan." He blinked once before turning back to Firetail. "Is this gonna be followed by one of those awkward silences because I said something stupid again?"

"No. What you said wasn't really that stupid anyway." She then looked at the thrush that had just landed on a branch of an oak tree.

"Get it," he hissed, slinking in the other direction to go after a small woodchuck. A moment later, a yowl from Whitefire was heard; the woodchuck had bitten his leg. "Not good prey over there," he meowed, licking a trickle of blood from his foreleg.

After Whitefire had yowled Firetail leaped at the thrush, but the thrush was to fast."Fox dung!" She sighed."Whitefire it wasn't your fault. It was the mouse-brained woodchuck." She then quickly pounced at a squirrel at the bottom of the oak tree and killed it with a quick swipe of her paw. She then put it with the other fresh-kill.

"Nice catch," Whitefire mewed, still licking his leg. "Only a few more now; then the evening patrol can do our hunting." He arched his back before slinking farther along the path. His voice was hushed as he spoke: "I smell rabbits."

Firetail scented the air. There was more than one rabbit nearby. About maybe four or five. It was strange, usually there wuldn't be so many rabbits in one place. She shrugged.

"We're probably near a warren of them," he whispered. "Try to be quiet; if one's set off then they'll all flee." Whitefire dropped his weight and began to stalk the rabbits, picking up one paw at a time and carefully setting them down.

Not saying a word, she got low. She stayed still in one place. She began to stalk the rabbits, slowly and quietly picking up one paw at a time and setting them down.

Whitefire continued to stalk, finally getting in range of a rabbit. He flicked his tail, signaling Firetail to approach. This way, they each would have a chance to catch a rabbit; that would mean two more pieces of fresh-kill to feed the Clan.

Firetail still stalking quietly, quickly began to approach a rabbit. She looked over at Whitefire waiting for the next signal when to leap.

"Now!" he whispered, pouncing on a rabbit. He quickly caught the lagomorph and killed it instantly by breaking its neck. With a rabbit dangling from his jaws, Whitefire stood and waited to see if Firetail had made her catch.

As soon as she heard the word 'Now' from Whitefire she leaped and pounced on a rabbit and killed it with another swipe of her paw. She picked up the rabbit with her jaws and brought it over to the other fresh-kill.

"Well done," Whitefire mewed in a muffled voice, mouth full of rabbit. "Maybe one or two more pieces should be enough to hold the Clan over until the evening hunting patrol goes out." He twitched his whiskers and looked around for more prey.

Firetail nodded. She scented the air. She couldn't scent anything.

"Smell anything?" Whitefire asked. "I can't...the prey-scent covers it all. Should we just go back to camp and catch whatever we see on the way there?" The albino tom flicked his tail and looked back.

"I smell nothing. We should just go back to camp now. Whatever we see on the way back we could catch." She agreed.

"Okay." Whitefire picked up the rabbit in his jaws, occasionally scuffing his paws through the dead leaves as he went to detect the prey they had buried earlier. He happened across a dead mouse and stuck it in his jaws along with the rabbit.

She scuffled even more through the dead leaves until she found the other rabbit and squirrel. She stuck the squirrel in her mouth along with the rabbit she had just caught. She put the dead leaves back over the other rabbit. I'll pick it up later.

Whitefire tried to speak, but his jaws were full of the fresh-kill. The two cats arrived to the edge of camp, where he ran ahead to the fresh-kill pile and deposited the prey. He ran back to Firetail and spoke. "Drop that in the pile and we'll go get the other stuff."

Firetail rushed to the fresh-kill pile depositing her fresh-kill. Then she padded back to Whitefire. "Ready?"

“Yeah,” Whitefire replied. “After we bring what’s left back, we should go wake up the rest of camp. The sun is getting high.” He flicked his tail skyward. The sun was indeed climbing higher and higher into the sky with each passing moment.
