...because there is absolutely nothing to do. Whitestar was curled up under a tree with a fat branch that hung over camp. There were a few mouse bones piled near his paws, leftovers from the tom's morning snack. His fur fluttered softly in the light green-leaf breeze. The weather was at the fine line of being warm and being cool, as it often was in FrostClan.
Bluepool walked out of her den somewhat stiffly. It was early and she hadn't received her herbs for the day yet. Rather than waiting for Rainlight or Blackleaf to visit the elders' den, she went up to the fresh-kill pile, grabbed a vole from it, and sat down. She took a bite and chewed it placidly. The pile was heaping and she smiled faintly. Her predictions about FrostClan returning to power were already proving themselves to be true. She glanced around to see if any of the other cats would drop by the pile to chat with her.

Cinderflame padded out of the warriors' den, greeting the warm sun happily. He looked over to the freshkill pile, noticing the elder, Bluepool, was eating a vole. He padded over quietly, wondering when Whitestar's patrol would be back. "Hello, Bluepool," he said.

"Hey, Cinderflame," Bluepool meowed calmly. She took another bite of the vole and swallowed. "What's up?" She fluffed her chest fur and gave it a few quick licks before glancing over at the sleeping form of Whitestar. "He always liked to sleep," she muttered somewhat dryly.

Cinderflame nodded absent-mindedly (sp?), choosing a mouse out of the pile. He sat down in a nice patch of grass, tucking into the plump prey. "How are things today for you?"

"Pretty uneventful, to tell the truth," she meowed. "The dawn patrol should be back any minute now. It must have been either organized yesterday or Firetail chose who went on it. I haven't seen her today." Bluepool blinked, took another bite of the vole, swallowed, and continued. "Of course, I'm in a different den than everyone else who isn't Whitewhisker."

Firetail stood up and stretched. She padded out of the warriors' den. She glanced around. She spotted Whitestar resting under a tree, then Bluepool and Cinderflame by the fresh-kill pile. She padded over to the fresh-kill pile and picked out a thrush, before sitting down next to Bluepool. "How are we today, Cinderflame, Bluepool?" She asked, actually caring.
Flamestep padded out of the medicine cats' den and over to her clanmates. "I know, I know, I should be resting." She sighed. "I just can't stay still for that long. So, I'm getting my own prey, and some for Goldenleaf too." She meowed. She picked out a rabbit and a magpie. She padded back over to the medicine cats' den. I wonder why I still ache so badly, it should have lightened up a bit by now. I really want to get back in the warriors den.

Cinderflame shurgged to Firetail, taking another bite out of the mouse. "Who went on the dawn patrol, Firetail?" he asked, stretching out a little bit. The sun felt great on his pelt and he was having a good meal. FrostClan was getting better. But he couldn't shake the feeling something was going to happen...

"Doing good," Bluepool meowed. "Although Whitestar seems to be keen on a morning nap..." She smiled evilly and stiffly trotted over to the leader. The elder widened her blue eyes and stared right at Whitestar. She had herself locked into this position when she jabbed a paw into his side.
Whitestar awoke quickly and yelped, taking a leap backwards and crashing into the tree. He shook his head quickly and muttered, "I'm okay," before padding over to the fresh-kill pile. Suddenly more awake, he addressed his clanmates. "Good morning, Firetail...Cinderflame...Flamestep...Mom..." The white tom put unnecessary stress on the last syllable and glared at Bluepool; she had returned to her spot by the pile and was smiling innocently.

"Morning, Whitestar," Cinderflame said. He took one last bite of the mouse he was eating before getting up, stretching. "I think I'll go hunting, if that's alright."

"Okay," Whitestar meowed with a yawn. "You can take a few cats of your choice with you. I can go if you'd like, although our fresh-kill pile is almost as big as I am." He plucked a mouse from the top of the pile and began to eat. "Mmmm. Juicy," he commented, bits of the mouse's fur sticking to his whiskers.

Cinderflame shook his head. "No thanks, I'd actually like to go alone. I need to think about things..." He dipped his head in farewell to Firetail, Flamestep, Bluepool, and Whitestar, before plodding out of camp. He never felt truly connected to FrostClan. He probably never would.

Flamestep dipped her head to everyone and then padded over to the medicine cats' den and went inside.
I wonder what's wrong with Cinderflame. She thought. Eh, it's not extremely worth finding out, I'm not nosy like that. She glanced back at Whitestar. "Good morning, Whitestar." She meowed to the leader. She took a bite out of the trush. "So, did you have a nice nap? Well, before you got jabbed in the side and hit the tree." She glanced over at Bluepool.

"Morning, Firetail," he meowed calmly, taking a small bite of mouse. "It was pretty good. I had a dream that I was hunting and then I slipped in a mud puddle. That really did happen once. I was hunting with Flaxeyes and Skypaw, I think." "All right. Do what you want," Bluepool mewed, giving her paw a lick.

Rainlight padded into camp, returning from the Moonpool. It was obvious to anyone watching she was not happy. Her fur was bristling and her eyes were blazing with a mixture of anger, guilt and sadness. "StarClan reports good weather," she meowed absently as she padded into her den. "Expect plentiful prey." She had so much on her mind that she completely forgot about Bluepool's herbs and that she has given Blackleaf his warrior name.
Flaxeyes, who had been out night hunting, returned through the back entrance. Her side brushed against the tree as she entered and she placed her two rabbits at the foot of it. She closed her eyes as she recognised what Whitestar was eating. "Can you possibly eat that really really fast," she meowed, her voice shaking. Rainlight's tense scent reached her nose but it was not followed by Blackpaw's ((Blackleaf)). "Odd," she meowed.

"Oh, it's okay, Flaxeyes," Whitestar meowed before taking a final bite and hastily burying the bones. "It's gone and I think that that was the only mouse on the pile. Want a squirrel?" He picked up a reddish-brown squirrel by its bushy tail and twitched his whiskers, waiting for his best friend to accept.

Flaxeyes opened one eye first and when she saw the mouse was indeed gone, she opened the other. "Thanks," she meowed, smiling. She took the squirrel from the albino tom and began taking bites from it. "I managed to catch two rabbits last night," she meowed proudly," I put them by the tree, so I will put them on the pile later. That's if there really is no mice there." She finished the squirrel, murmured her thanks to StarClan and stripped the fur from the its tail. Using her claws, she rolled it into a ball and battered it at Whitestar. "So what did Rainlight say?" she asked the warriors," I smelt her as she entered camp. She seems to be in a mad mood."

"No mice there," Whitestar meowed calmly. "They don't hang around that tree. I don't think it's sheltered enough for them. He rolled the squirrel tail back and forth between his paws for a moment before answering Flaxeyes's question. "She said that StarClan said that there would be good weather and to expect plentiful prey." The leader frowned and batted the ball back to Flaxeyes. "That seems like a really weird thing for a medicine cat to say. I don't think it's supposed to be about the weather..."

"Perhaps you should go talk to her," Flaxeyes meowed, flicking the ball into the air. "I didn't see Blackpaw return with her. DO you think something bad happened?" Her green eyes filled with axiety towards her absent mate. "I-I had s-something to tell him." She blushed and looked away.

"Maybe StarClan had a lot more to tell him than they did for Rainlight," Whitestar suggested. "But I'm sure that if something had happened to him, she wouldn't be as irritable as she'd be sad. We can go out and look for him, if you like." He sat up on his hind legs to give his right foreleg a quick lick.

"Really?" Flaxeyes meowed a little too enthusiactically. She looked away hurriedly. I can't let Whitestar know about me and Blackpaw. Not yet. "I'm just worried that's all. The fighting between Skypaw and Blackpaw was a little awkward and I promised her I would go training but Rainlight wanted me to help her with fighting training for Blackpaw..." She pawed the ground nervously. "So it's really only natural I have concern for him right? He's one of my...closest friends beside you." Great now you're rambling like a maniac...

"Definitely," he meowed with conviction. "Firetail should be able to take care of everything while we're gone. It's not like we're going to come back and find camp in ruins...at least, I hope not." Whitestar frowned slightly and shook his head to clear the thought. No. Today we find Blackleaf. Save the other tragedies for tomorrow.
