Emberlight padded along the beach, staring at the sand, duller than she remembered. The cold breeze that blew in from the sea forced her to fluff her fur up, and she turned back to her kits, Ripplekit and Sparkkit. "Hurry, my dears!" she called. "Catch up!" The scent of brine and fish wafted up to her nose, and she shivered in pleasure. She had missed this.
Ripplekit yawned, following her mother slowly. She didn't know why her mother had dragged her out here. All she knew was her father wasn't paying much attention to them, her sister was being unnaturally quiet, and her mother was getting restless being holed up in the camp all day. So, she had woken up her and Sparkkit from a nap and dragged them out here. In her exact words, they were "getting a feel of the territory." The small tortoiseshell had a feeling that this little expedition had little to do them and more to do with her.
Continuing on, staring at the pretty seashells and the seaweed as she passed by them, they walked up and down the beach, her mother pointing things out as they padded along. Mostly, silence was all the little kit heard.
After their fourth walk up along the beach, she heard a rustling in the trees beside the beach. Like she had been taught, Ripplekit stopped, staring into the trees. Her mother was a few steps ahead, telling them about how the tide would sometimes rise and cover up half the beach, and other times, be back so the beach was even larger than it really was. Ripplekit had heard this story many times before. "Mom," she called. Emberlight turned back, cocking her head. "There's something in the trees."
Before she knew it, her mother was beside her and her sister, sweeping them under her tail and behind her. "Who is it?" she called, her voice slightly shaking. What was there to be afraid of? And so the family waited for whoever had made the noise to show themselves.
[ooc;] I haven't roleplayed Emberlight or Ripplekit in a while. Please reply!![/ooc]

Skystripe lifted her head from off the ground. Her jaw had a fat rabbit in it. What's going on? She jumped over a few fallen palm trees and onto the Beach. She noticed Emberlight and her kits walking around. Now what are they doing here? She tried to hold her rabbit in the air so no sand got on it's fur, but that was impossible. "Emberlight." She shouted.

Emberlight's head whipped to where the voice was coming from. It was a familiar voice. It almost sounded like... "Skystripe? Is that you?" she called out nervously. Would Skystripe tell that she had snuck the kits out of camp? She knew she wasn't allowed to leave them unattended, and kits weren't allowed outside the camp until they were apprentices. But surely Skystripe didn't care. Right? She chuckled nervously, drawing her kits in closer to her. She heard Ripplekit giggle, and quickly shushed her.
[ooc;] I dunno if that rule is true...but I know that in the books Cloudkit and the other kits in his litter weren't allowed out.[/ooc]

ooc; I understand! But I'm not quite sure.
bic; Skystripe dropped the rabbit and pushed it over to the litter of kits. "They should be apprenticed soon. Are you happy to see who they're mentors are going to be?" She was smiling. She turned to the calm water. "Here. Do you mind if I fish while we chat?" A moment later she felt akward and pounced into the water. She stood straight up without making a movement. Skystripe then felt the water move so she dove into the water. Her striped head popped up quickly. Her jaw had a huge fish in it.

Emberlight shook her head. "No, go ahead," she replied. Sighing, she thought about her first question. "Icestart hasn't yet told me who their mentors will be, but I'm glad they'll be apprenticed soon. And I'm sure their mentors will be the best they can be for them." She turned toward her kits, smiling fondly. She wondered idly what Duskfur was doing at this moment.

ooc; they'll be apprenticed after the battle. just pm me to remind me
bic; Skystripe nodded. "They are so full of energy." She smiled. She then froze as she saw a crab on the beach heading for were the kits were playing. "Watch out!" She jumped high into the air and landed in front of the kits. She dove into the sand to grab the crab with he teeth. She crunched on the shell hard so that the crab would become a meal. "Sorry." She said to the kits. She noticed she splashed a load of sand ontop of them.

Ripplekit screamed, "EW!" The second that wet and dry sand fell onto her fur, she let out a yowl. She started running around in circles, much to her mother's dismay, howling, "Get it off! Get it off of me!" She heard her sister laughing, and she knew it would take forever for her to get the sand out of her sleek and shiny fur."
Emberlight rushed over to Ripplkit, grabbing her by the fur on the back of her neck. Her daughter immediately stopped moving, just lay limp. She put the kit down once she was sure that she wouldn't start up her childish antics again. "Ripplekit! Apologize to Skystripe for your behavior." Her stern, motherly tone left no room for argument, and Ripplekit turned to Skystripe and mumbled an embarrassed apology. "Sorry about that," she said to her fellow warrior.

Sparkkit shook her head a little in a futile attempt to knock some of the sand out of her fur. Her pelt was messy enough as it was; she doubted it made all that much difference. "Thanks, Skystripe!" she meowed, while giggling at Ripplekit's reaction to getting pelted with sond. Unlike her own, her sister's fur was shiny, soft and clean, like the ripples on a lake. It was pretty amusing to see her freak out about getting a little bit dirty. The golden tabby kit headed over to Skystripe, glancing at the... thing she had just attacked. "What was that?" she asked, squinting. It had several strange little legs, and some of them ended in enormous paws lined with tiny clawlike things.

Skystripe felt a burst on hope in her chest. "Awww! Thank you guys! But there's no need to apologize!" She purred. The she-cat warrior hear the small sound of Sparkkit. She twirled around to have her face facing Sparkkit. "That was a crab. Sometimes we eat them as prey because their legs have meat inside of them. But we have to check that the crab is okay to eat just incase it ate something in the water." She meowed. She smiled at the young kit and noticed that she was eager to learn. Sparkkit was very curious in Skystripe's eyes. I hope I can mentor one of these kits! They're so curious and sound fun to teach! Her yellow eyes stared down at Sparkkit, hoping to get an responce.

Ripplekit scampered over next to her sister, brushing her somewhat clean pelt against Sparkkit. "What could they eat that could be bad?" she asked, her voice rising at the end. She glanced at her mother, who had begun licking Sparkkit's coat clean with her tongue as Skylight offered information for the two curious kits.

Skystripe liked Sparkkit's questions. "Well they're bottom feeders. They something might eat something gross that will make us sick. I think the worst thing that's happened was a bad belly ache." She purred. Skystripe looked down at the kit and then up and Emberlight. "They're so full of energy." She purred.

Emberlight looked up from her licking, staring at her kits fondly. Yes. They were. And they were hers. "Yeah, they are, aren't they?" She went back to dispatching sand from her daughter's pelt. Her rhthymic licking helped calm her thoughts, which were on Duskfur, who she hadn't talked to in a while. She dispelled thoughts of her mate, focusing on the rough feel of sand, and cleaning it out with her teeth.
Ripplekit nodded, entranced. "Oh. What are bottom feeders?" She sat down, though the sand was uncomfortable. She liked the feel of leaves and dirt better than the itchy, hard, rock-like sand. But she ignored the discomfort, because the muscles in her legs were beginning to hurt from the running and standing for a long period of time. She had a feeling that was a bad thing.

Skystripe nodded. Interesting question. "I think they eat the remains of fish that were eaten by bigger fish that fall to the bottom. Or dead fish if that. Well, I heard that they were bottom feeders from the elders when I was a kit so, maybe you should ask Silverheart." Skystripe meowed. She looked at her paws. She pushed sand over her paws. The she-cat looked at the sun. "Maybe we should get back. It's almost sun-down. But I need to catch at least one more fish before I go back or the senior warriors will have my head." She suggested. Skystripe was staring at the calm water. Her whole pelt was wet when she went to catch a fish but it got away. The she-cat saw a small fish going through the clear water. Perfect! The yellow eyes on Skystripe followed the fish until it was at least a rabbits length away from her paws. She jumped suddenly and clawed at the fish's face. It floated to the top of the water so it was easier for Skystripe to grab it. "Who's wants to carry this one back?" Skystripe joked.

Ripplekit nodded. "Silverheart, got it." She watched as Skystripe caught the fish. "I want to carry it!" She bounded over to the older she-cat, eyes glittering. "Can I, can I, please?" she asked. She saw her mother out of the corner of her eyes smiling fondly at her. "Please, Skystripe, may I carry it back?"

Skystripe looked at Ripplekit's pleading. "Umm. It's a little too big." She looked at Ripplekit with a frown. "How about I carry the head, and you carry the tail." She suggested. It'll be easier for her to carry because of the wait. "Any of you want to carry the crab?" She blinked at Emberlight. Her eyes glithering, with a wide smile on her face.

"OK!" Ripplekit exclaimed, grabbing hold of the tail. Her mouth was full of the watering scent of fish, and her mouth quavered. But she was helping a warrior! This was big! It was almost like she was an apprentice already. She grinned through the fish, satisfied with herself.
Emberlight smiled. "I can carry the crab." Looking over at her other daughter, Sparkkit, she wondered if the golden tabby felt left out or unimportant with Ripplekit having 'such a big duty'. "Sparkkit, why don't you help me carry the crab?" she asked, looking at Sparkkit fondly.

Skystripe had to turn her head so that Ripplekit was able to help carry the fish. Too bad it so big that she couldn't actually carry it. Skystripe smiled as Emberlight was going to carry the crab. And she was super glad that she was showing the kits how being an apprentice is a lot of hard work.

Ripplekit's paws tingled. So this is what it was like! Being an apprentice. Carrying food with warriors and following orders. Though the last part was not her favorite, she would take it. OOoohh, to be an apprentice
Emberlight positioned the crab in her mouth so that Sparkkit thought she was carrying it, but wasn't really. The crab was very light, so it wasn't that difficult to carry. She turned back to Ripplekit and Skystripe, smiling against the crab.

Skystripe watched the ground as she walked. The tabby she-cat was so happy to act like she had an apprentice. Ripplekit would be a great cat to teach. She sounds like she would really try her hardest and follow orders instead of complaining. Emberlight must be proud. "So who do you think will be your mentor." She asked Ripplekit, it was hard for her to speak because of the large fish in her mouth.

Ripplekit shrugged, while still struggling to carry the fish. "I dunno," she said around the fish. "But I bet it'll be someone good! Someone who will teach me to be the best I can be. The perfect mentor for me." The weight of the fish was heavier than anything she'd ever carried, but not unbearable. It made adrenaline pump through her system. This was what it was like the be an apprentice.

Skystripe was shocked from Ripplekit's words. "Amazing." She murmured. The she-cat noticed they were walking into camp. "Now don't tell anyone about where you were today, or mommy and I will get into trouble." Skystripe whispered. "Now how about you go take this fish to the elder's den and tell them you we wanted to be nice to bring them food." Skystripe purred.
