Foxflame sat hunched over in the middle of camp, his fluffy tail limp on the ground. His amber eyes dull and full of grief. It was a strange sight, seeing as though this young cat was usually so full of life and happy. That's because, just a mouse length away lay his sister, Bramblethorn. Her body was cold and lifeless, a deep gash across her head. It had happened so quick, Foxflame was still in shock. They had been hunting on a cliff when suddenly the rock beneath Bramblethorn had given out and she had pushed Foxflame out of the way. He was the one who had suggested they hunt there, Bramblethorn had wanted to hunt at the beach. It was all his fault...Foxflame hung his head, closing his eyes with a small sigh. It just seemed so unreal..

Icestar walked out of her den with Stormcloud and once they saw Bramblethorn they gasp in shock. "Bramblethorn!" Icestar wailed. The warrior was lifeless and all she saw was her old apprentice's face, full of sorrow. "I'm sorry Foxflame," she whispered. She walked up to him and pushed her pelt against his. Stormcloud dipped his head to the warrior and grieved. He didn't quite know the she-cat, but he new she was his clanmate, and yet, a friend in mind.

Coppertail had just wandered into camp from a full day of hunting when he glimpsed Bramblethorn lying in the center of camp, not sign of life. In shock, he dropped the prey he was carrying, raced over to the warrior and began touching her still body with his nose. "What happened?" he asked, his voice filled with a world of grief. His question was directed at Foxflame, Bramblethorn's brother. The young warrior looked a mess.

Emberlight padded out of the Nursery slowly, Ripplekit at her heels. Sparkkit was still back in the Nursery - she hadn't felt like coming out. They would be warriors soon, so soon. Emberlight's heart pounded unevenly. Icestar, Coppertail, Foxflame, and Stormcloud were clustered around a cat. Most likely a-a-a dead cat. She raced over, her eyes round with worry. Could it be Duskfur? Ripplekit walked excitedly over to her mother, who was staring at something. "What is is Mommy?" she whispered. Emberlight shushed her and stared at the cat who had perished. Bramblethorn. Her eyes dropped. Was it wrong to feel relieved that it wasn't Duskfur? Of course she was still sad, but... Emberlight shook her head, dispelling herself of thoughts around relief, and focusing on thoughts of remorse. "I'm so sorry, Foxflame," she murmured. Ripplekit cocked her head. What was happening? She sat down indignantly and waited for someone to acknowledge her. It had to happen sometime.

Icestar looked at Coppertail then at Foxflame. She didn't quite know either what happened. Stormcloud flicked his ears toward the warrior, still have his head down in a bow for a lifeless warrior. Silentstep got the picture and looked at her paws. "She now lies in the paws of Starclan," she meowed quietly. Looking up she gave a sighed and looked at Foxflame. "I'm sorry dear," she meowed, grief filled her voice and it flooded and made her feel like she was going to choke. Her heart sank as she looked at Bramblethorn on more time.

Quietshadow heard a commotion and a lot of pawsteps outside of his den. Obviously, something had happened. And by the somber voices that he had heard, it was something awful. Carefully, he padded out, trying to remain as silent as he could. Then he saw that it was Bramblethorn and her brother, Foxflame. The former was dead and the latter seemed to be looking a lot worse for the wear. Without bothering to even speak to any of the mourners, he returned to his den and grabbed a few springs of chamomile. Quietshadow walked back to Foxflame and set the chamomile down next to the warrior. "Please eat this," he meowed quietly. "It'll help with the shock and all..."
Like Quietshadow, Tigerstripe heard the noise from inside her den and went outside. She, too, could tell it wouldn't be good news that she was about to hear. But she never expected what she did see... It was Bramblethorn. Lying there next to Foxflame. Dead. How could this happen? Bramblethorn was always a friend of mine and she knew about the kits before I had them...oh no...

Icestar looked at her medicine cat. "Can you maybe figure out what had killed her? It wouldn't just happen like an elder with an old age." she whispered. She then tried to crack a smile at Foxflame, it didn't work. She looked at her paws. "It's okay, she lies with Starclan now." she breathed.

"Either trauma or blood loss," Quietshadow replied in a low voice. "Probably both. She got a horrid head injury from whatever happened, I can tell you that. It appears that Foxflame was the only witness and he is in no condition to tell what happened. The chamomile will help with the shock, though. Losing a loved one is always a terrible experience, and that's putting it mildly..." The medicine cat sighed softly. "Time might not heal all wounds, but it makes them less painful."

Icestar dipped her head to Quietshadow. "We will hold a vigil for her tonight, right now, Foxflame can spend time with her, we can get back to duties." she meowed. She called loudly for Thunderpaw. "Thunderpaw!" she called. She wanted to do some training with the apprentice, well, if he had all the elder's fixed with new bedding and fresh kill. Stormcloud raised his head and dipped his head to the she-cat one more time and jumped up. "Tell Coppertail to lead a patrol around the Rainclan border." Icestar told her mate. Stormcloud blinked and walked up to the deputy. "Icestar said to run a patrol across the Rainclan border." he meowed.

Ambercloud sighed as she slowly padded out of the warriors den. The she-cat had heard some commotion, and had thought about not moving and continuing her nap, but the curiousity as to what was going on had overcome her. Her emerald eyes stared into the camp and over to the group of cats. Exactly what was going on? Curiousity overwhelming her, she padded to the group and made her way to the front. There lay Bramblethorn. Was she sick or something? Then noticing the body non-moving, the she-cat gasped. Bramblethorn was dead! Ambercloud was a bit unsure if she should move closer, but she had to say something, it wouldn't be right not to. She sat down beside Foxflame and forced a smile on her face. "You'll see her again one day. I know saying I'm sorry wouldn't help, so I really don't know what to say other than it's not your fault." she murmered. What could she say to the tom? She remembered losing her brother, but then again that was a different story, and besides they were kits.
ooc// So sorry, Cat, I meant to reply earlier. I have relatives at my house, and well trust me its not too fun.

Emberlight snapped, "Hush, Ripplekit!" She sent an empathetic glance to Foxflame, before leaving him to mourn. She'd mourn Bramblethorn later. Right now Foxflame should mourn in peace. She led her kit away, whispering soothingly and calmly, "Bramblethorn, a warrior, just died. You'll understand when you're older." Nudging her back into the Nursery, she curled up in her nest, smiling at her kits she said, "Naptime."
Ripplekit crawled over to her mother. She knew what death was. Her mother had told her that she had had a brother, Grasskit, but he had died before he had a chance to live.

To Foxflame, everything around him seemed to be moving in slow motion. In his mind..it was screaming that this wasn't real...but he knew it was from the deep pain in his heart. He heard his leader and old mentor's voice, along with Quietshadow and Coppertail. His eyes strayed to the herbs beside him, but he felt he couldn't swallow anything. He felt sick. One cats words seemed to hit him deeper in the heart than any. Ambercloud's. Those last few words..."It is my...my fault..." Foxflame's throat felt dry and his voice was a hoarse whisper. "She....wanted to hunt at the beach.....I decided the cliff." he closed his eyes, images flashing back in his mind. They cause him to flinch and he felt a throbbing in his left leg. A deep, bloody gash stained his fur, but almost blending in. But the pain in his heart hurt more. "I...I don't know....I don't what to do now... Ambercloud..." OOC: It's cool Amber. I'm only on now cause of this cafe with internet.

Thunderpaw trotted out of his den, a little bit mad at being aroused from his day-long nap to go train. He started to head towards Icestar, but caught sight of Bramblethorn and stared at the warrior while still moving. The apprentice promptly tripped over his mother, recieving a whispered scolding--"Don't gawk!"--en route to his mentor. "What happened?" he asked in a small voice. Even Thunderpaw was smart enough to know that dead cats do not randomly show up in the middle of camp.

Hollystripe poked her head out of her nest in the warrior den. A few of the cats had left the den. Is something wrong? she thought. Did someone… Hollystripe tried her hardest to imagine the worst, but with each pawstep her thoughts grew more and more worse.
Is that Bramblethorn? she thought. There was a dead cat lying in the center in the middle of the clearing. Hollystripe had had little interaction with the she-cat, but it didn't mean she wasn't upset she had gone to StarClan. Hollystripe remained behind the other cats, her pelt shimmering in the sun. She dug her claws into the soft ground; in, out, in, out. Why had this happened?

Ambercloud shook her head. He couldn't blame himself, that was the worst thing any cat could do. That would only destroy a cat inside. "No, you are wrong. It is not your fault. Don't let yourself think that." she meowed. She let out a deep sigh and stared at the tom. "You did everything you can think of, I'm sure. And I bet Bramblethorn is watching you now, not wanting you to feel sorry for her, right? Why dissapoint her?" Ambercloud questioned. She didn't know what he should do now. This was difficult to say, or even think. "Maybe you should have yourself checked out. You may be hurt other than just mentally. We can't lose you too."

Foxflame was silent, closing his eyes, her words sinking in but he refused to believe them. "A-alright.." Getting to his feet seemed harder enough and he moved slowly towards the medicine cat's den, limping slightly from the injury on his leg His head hung low, his bushy tail dragging on the ground without a care. What was the point now anyway? 'I should have been the one...Bramblethorn...I'm sorry...' he thought, eyes dull and staring straight at the ground.

Ambercloud watched Foxflame get up and leave. Maybe she should...no. She had to do something. She took a glance at Bramblethorn's body and then ran after Foxflame. "You at least have to let me help you." she murmered forcing a smile onto her face. "And its not the end of the world. Just because your sister is gone doesn't mean that there aren't other cats that won't need you, or want to see you." Ambercloud was running out of things to say. She knew this was difficult, yes, but he didn't need to be so torn up about it. Surely it wasn't healthy.

Foxflame glanced over to the she-cat, blinking impassively. Then his amber gaze moved back to the ground and he nodded. "I suppose..." he murmured, trailing off. Then, without looking up, "But I can't get the image out of my mind. The cliff...Bramblethorn...it's like a neverending dream." he sighs, looking back to Ambercloud with a smile. It was sad, but still charming from the tom. "Thank you...for...well..." he trailed, not finding the words to decribe it.

Ambercloud was finally able to have a real, genuine smile on her face. Her words had actually made sense. Well, there was a first for everything, right?
But then he began to speak again. "I can imagine how awful you must feel, but please don't linger in grief for too long. It is starting to make me feel horrible. I wish I could do something to help you, to take the pain away, but I'm sorry that I can't." she mewed.
"You are welcome, and don't mention it. I know you probably don't want to talk about it now, but when you are ready, I promise I will be there for you. I'll do my best to help you through. I'll stay by your side as long as you need me to." she added.

Foxflame smiled slightly, nodding. "Thanks for everything Ambercloud.....It means a lot.." with that, he pressed his face to her shoulder, closing his eyes and taking in her scent a moment. Then he realized what he was doing and pulled back, his skin hot under his skin with embarrassment. "Sorry....." he said, looking away.

Ambercloud had to look away for a moment. She wasn't used to actually talking to a cat other than herself this much. If this all meant alot to Foxflame, then she really must have done something right. "I'm glad I could help." she said. When she felt his face in her fur, her paws became a bit unsteady. This was unexpected. This must be a dream or something. It had to be, nothing like this happened in her waking life. Right? The she-cat blinked and realized it wasn't a dream, it was real. "No, its fine." she murmered, actually not creeped out or disturbed or anything by Foxflame.

Foxflame smiled weakly at her, looking back down to his paws. This was definately not the spirited and strong-willed cat that had left to hunt that morning. His ears twitched at her words and finally he spoke. "I...I think I should try to rest...to tell the others what happened. T-thank you Ambercloud.." he said softly, but his voice was grateful. Then he padded to the medicine cat's den, looking only slightly better than before. If nightmares haunted him now when he was awake....what would happen when he closed his eyes?

There were voices coming from outside the den. Of course, this wasn't unusual in BeachClan, but something was different this time. There was a somber atmosphere; it was as if the voices were breaking a dark, awkward silence. Something was going on, and it wasn't good. Duskfur shifted in his nest. Though he couldn't hear exactly what was being said, his shaggy, mottled fur began to prickle merely at the tone. He was afraid, ignoring the stinging knowledge that hiding from unknown facts could not not alter their existence. Go away, go away. Nothing's happening. No one's... He tensed, suddenly standing up. What if something had happened to Emberlight? No... he'd heard her voice, had he not? Or had he? He made his way to the edge of the gorse, and peered through the den entrance. A cat was lying in the middle of the clearing. No, no, no... He shuddered, afraid to move any closer. No matter who it was or what had happened, death scared him to a point that left him not quite knowing how to feel. Scurry. Grasskit. He had watched cats die before; yet, he hadn't. They had been kits - weak and helpless. But this... this was different. Being a warrior doesn't make you immune to death. Of course it doesn't. He decided to linger near the edge of the den.
"Whaddya mean, naptime?" Sparkkit demanded of her mother, her tail tip twitching. "What's happening out there, huh? Huh?" There was excitement in her squeaky voice, though her tone was curious rather than harsh. She tipped her head, looking from Emberlight to the entrance of the fern den. She didn't like to be left out; her curiousity often got the better of her.

Emberlight sighed as Sparkkit peppered her with questions. "It's none of your business, Sparkkit," she snapped. She was low and sleep and Duskfur hadn't been coming to see her recently, and she was still so sad about Grasskit's death. But she felt bad for snapping, so in a softer, more motherly tone, she said, "A Clanmate died today. Her brother is mourning her at the moment, and he'd like to be alone. So get over here and lie down. Sleep."

Sparkkit shifted her paws. She was too young to understand fully what death was, but old enough to know that it was... well, bad. Yes, she knew this well - so was it wrong to want to know more about it? Her mother might be mad if she talked about bad things, especially if those bad things were other cats' business. "I-I'm not tired, though," she meowed; a stubborn tone was evident in her voice, though it had not been her intention. "And I really do want to know more. When you say died, you mean that they're not there anymore?" She paused, remembering something she and Ripplekit had heard from her mother not too long ago. "Like our brother? Is it the same thing that happened to him?"
