((While on a hunting patrol, Coppertail, Browntail, Owlspot and Dragonpaw bumped into Nightshade and Spider. They are hoping to meet Quietshadow who is Nightshade's half-brother))
"Welcome to BeachClan, temporary home of AquaClan," Coppertail announced, as the patrol reached the entrance to the camp. Browntail and Dragonpaw had already ran ahead with the prey so there was no doubt that the camp was probably already alerted to the arrival of the rogues. That was if they hadn't noticed their scents, slightly faint with river water. "We aren't staying for long," Owlspot explained," Just until we've made sure there's enough prey in AquaClan or we find a more prey rich territory." The long-limber black tom tilted his head. It was unusual for Clans to move camps. In all the stories he had heard they lived in the same place for seasons. "Where else could you go?" Spider asked, his voice showing a hint of pity for the Clan cats. "There's only no cats land left. Oh. You want to live there?!" Both Owlspot and Coppertail ignored the comment and slipped through the bracken and into the camp.

Icestar walked up to Coppertail. She was irritated of the fact of the rouges wondering around her territory with the fact of prey going scarce. "Coppertail, who are these cats and what do they want." she murmured, a small growl in her throat. It was bad enough with Aquaclan in her territory but now rouges. What next!?! Browntail walked out of the Elder's den with Silentstep, her voice was hoarse, and she was coughing. Oh no! Icestar thought, her eyes were round and wide. "Silentstep!" she wailed. "Owlspot, please get Quietshadow!" she pleaded. Icestar feet thudded the ground as she ran over to her sister. "Silentstep." she whispered. "Help me," the silver elder breathed. The sickness wasn't bad but it seemed as it was.

"Stay right there," Coppertail hissed at Nightshade and Spider before dashing after Icestar. The elder was probably choking on a tough peice of prey or perhaps just a little throat. Nothing to worry about too much. Hopefully.
Owlspot nodded and quickly headed over to Medicine Cat den. He sent a silent prayer to StarClan hoping one of the three medicine cats who were staying in BeachClan was in the den. Or maybe even Larchpaw! "We need a medicine cat!" he called out, slipping into the den. "Silentstep's got a bad cough. Oh. And Nightshade's here."

Icestar looked at her sister and sniffed her. "She's smells bad, I don't know what it is?" she complained. "Quietshadow?" She wailed loudly, angry. Turning back to Silentstep. Icestar started to lick Silenstep's head. It was boiling. "Coppertail, tell an apprentice or something to run to the River and get some cold water." she ordered. Dragonpaw walked up to Coppertail with some moss. "I already got some," he meowed. Dropping the moss and noticing Browntail licking Silentstep's silver pelt. When did he ever care about Beachclan?

Quietshadow's ears perked up and he licked his lips. "Okay. I'll be right out." He grabbed a leaf and quickly wrapped some catmint and lavender in it and strode out to the center of camp. The medicine cat meowed a quick greeting to his half-sister and went to work on diagnosing Silentstep. He rested his chin on her head, looked around her eyes and nose, and spent a diligent half-minute listening to her breathing to see if it was impaired. "Nothing too severe," he meowed. "You seem to have either a very strong whitecough or a mild greencough--which are about the same thing. Here. Eat the catmint and lavender right now; I'll bring you more at sun-down. If your fever gets higher or if you start to cough up phlegm, then either see me or send someone to me right away. There's no treatment for blackcough, so we have to stop this while we can. Good idea with the water, by the way," he added, turning to Icestar. "Although it doesn't really have any medicinial purposes, it'll help keep Silentstep from getting dehydrated and it will keep her comfortable." The one time when you were likely to get Quietshadow to talk a lot was when he was doing something related to being a medicine cat. He didn't like to leave out details when he was explaining a disease. Who knew when knowing what to do might be neccessary? He wouldn't always be around to look after BeachClan.
Nightshade nodded. She understood that a medicine cat's first and foremost duty was to care for any sick cat he came across. Watching Quietshadow made MountainClan's medicine cat seem substandard. She would just hand you a herb and then trot off to whatever things she bothered to engage in. She felt a rush of pride for her half-brother. If she was coughing up blood or if she had a massive laceration, he would be the one she'd want to go to. "He's very professional, no?" she asked Spider, flicking her tail across his flank.

Silentstep lapped up the nasty tasting herbs up fast. Icestar made the elder lye down in her bed. Redfoot was on the other side the elder's den. Her eyes opened widely of the fact of an elder having greencough. "Quietshadow? Is it possible for me it get it?" she asked nervously. Her tailed twitched as she shivered.

Coppertail gently placed the soaking ball of moss at Silentstep's paws after grumbling a quick thank-you to Dragonpaw. "Could we give her some honey if we have any left? It might soothe her throat a little," he asked.
"Very. I'm glad we kept him safe at the battle," Spider meowed, brushing his cheek along Nightshade's shoulder. He didn't know alot about medicine cats except for the fact they made you feel better. Growing up as a rogue, he never had the quick herb given to him to help a sore stomach or something to bring a fever down like Quietshadow was doing now to the elderly silver she-cat.

"It is possible and I think we might still have some," Quietshadow meowed, answering both questions at once. "A lot of our honey was used up after the fire; Rockfang's still got an awful cough. It doesn't always help and I'm starting to suspect that it made her ashmatic. Cats get old, you know." Turning to face Redfoot, he added, "Greencough is contagious. Typically, cats with whitecough are quarantined somewhere, while ones with greencough stay in the medicine cat den. I'd say that Silentstep should stay with Larchpaw and me for a bit. With all of the cats who are in camp, it's far too easy to spread. "Don't worry about me, though. One of the blessings of being a medicine cat is that we rarely, if ever, get sick. I don't know if it's protection from StarClan or simply because we're around all of those herbs for most of our lives, but it's true." He looked at Silentstep, waiting for her to comment on his explanation.
"Definitely," replied Nightshade. "Maybe he can teach us some stuff. Stuff like how to treat wounds and what to do for fever. I know he won't tell us all of his secrets--especially the StarClan stuff--but I think he'll agree that every cat has the right of knowing what to do if they come down with greencough."

"AquaClan really needs to leave soon then," Owlspot meowed quietly," We can't have two Clans being being taken out by one sickness." Coppertail nodded slowly. If there was sickness in the camp it was not good news. Hopefully Silentstep didn't have Greencough and just a small cold instead. "We better start collecting some more herbs then. Somebody tell Blackleaf and Moonstream."
"Mhm. Dream told me once that poppy seeds help with pain but that's all I know," Spider meowed. "Do you think Quietshadow will tell us? Because at the moment us standing here wet, cold and starving is a prime way to get sick in the first place. And everybody here keeps talking about greencough..."

Quietshadow nodded solemnly. "I know of a spot in the forest where there's a lot of catmint and feverfew, but our stocks on those herbs are somewhat high. I'll take Larchpaw with me when I go--he needs to know this--and I'm confident that Moonstream and Blackleaf shouldn't run into any trouble."
Nightshade nodded. "Yeah, it is. You've never had to deal with greencough?" she whispered to Spider. "Lucky. It's very common in clans around snow--er, leaf-bare time--and it spreads faster than an avalanche. It's a bit like a cough, but a lot more severe. It can develop into blackcough, which is fatal, and greencough itself is very dangerous for elders and kits. That's all I, speaking as an ex-clan cat, know."

Silentstep stood up, leaning on Icestar's shoudler. Walking over to the medicine cat's den she looked careful. Icestar grabbed a mouse and gave it to Quietshadow. "Eat, I believe you haven't eaten yet today." she meowed.

Quietshadow shook his head, politely refusing the mouse. "I was thinking about taking Nightshade and Spider down to the lake to fish and tell them about some medicinal herbs," he meowed. Then, sensing that he might come off as being overly generous to the guests, he added to the leader in an undertone, "I don't think they'll catch anything. The fish are hard to come by this time of year and fishing isn't exactly a prey-catching method that is easy to learn."

Coppertail nodded to Quietshadow. It seemed the black tom was all set if there was to be an outbreak of greencough. "Is there anything you need though? I can have some apprentices or Moonstream help you. I'm sure Jaystar would understand."
Spider grimaced and his eyes filled with concern mingled with horror. "I've never heard of it," he murmured. "Will we get sick? I mean, you said it spreads." He glanced at Silentstep, wondering whether there was a polite way to say 'get away from me you cat-killing, sickness carrying, peice of crow food, you.'

Quietshadow shook his head. "Not immediately," he meowed. "We could use a bit more lavender and feverfew, but it's not a top priority of mine. Icestar, could you help me get Silentstep to my den?" He beckoned to the leader with his tail and began to pad off to the fern and rock structure that was his den.
"Good," Nightshade meowed under her breath. "Don't hear of it again. It's most common among clan cats, where they're all living together. I haven't seen a case of greencough--until now, that is--since I left MountainClan." She paused to yawn and continued to talk. "Well, it's not as contagious as I might have made it out to be. As long as you're not within direct or close contact with her, you should be fine."

"Good," Coppertail meowed nodding. "Okay then. If anybody needs me I'll be in the Warriors Den. I feel like a good sleep." With that he yawned and padded away, over to the dens.
The black rogue grimaced. "Er. How lovely. I never realised that living so close to other cats could actually make you ill." Spider cast a fearful glance over at Silenstep before turning back to look at Nightshade, suddenly very thankful she had left MountainClan. At least greencough was one less thing that could possibly kill her. "Greencough," he murmured," I've seen cats die of all sorts of things but never a cough."

She nodded. "It's more prevalent in snow-fall--leaf-bare, leaf-bare, leaf-bare--than it is in the other seasons. If we come to visit in the summer then Quietshadow'll probably be dealing with injuries as opposed to illnesses." Nightshade yawned loudly. "Living in a clan provides greater protection against attack, but yeah, you get sick and you can die...and you can still have a bad wound kill you. It seems like the clan cats get the short end of the stick." She kept her voice low so that only Spider could hear her.

"Erk," Spider grunted, pulling his lip up and over his teeth. Sounded like a rather pleasant way to spend the coldest part of the year. "At least as a rogue you only have to worry about chills or a particulary bad cough. All of which can be cured by some nice smelling grass and a warm den," he meowed softly,"Every cat for themselves in the rogue life. If somebody gets sick, you move away." With Nightshade, he had seen and heard about many different aspects of Clan life and he was now beginning to well...pity them, he susposed. His rogue life seemed so much easier.
