Shadow nodded, not really understanding, but pretending to. She liked Dragonpaw, he was nice, and the only other Clan cat she had talked with had been Spottedpaw, and she hadn't seen her since. So when they reached the Forest, she had to shake herself clean of thoughts so she could focus on hunting. It would be mighty embarressing to mess up in front of him, or Quailpaw, or Thunderpaw. She'd have to do the best of her ability.

Dragonpaw sniffed the air of the forest, the fresh pine sent ripped his skin. It was still Newleaf in Beachclan, so there is prey all year around, prey was always wonderful, unless something had happened. The black tom lifted his head and closed his eyes while he sniffed the air. He could smell a lot of rabbits and squirrels. Show time, he thought. He smiled and took a quick look at Shadow, which he was trying to impress. Dragonpaw crouched down and started to creep toward a bush, where a chipmunck was gathering nuts and seeds or what ever they gathered. The tom leaped and no sooner than the time the chipmunk flinched, it lie limp in his mouth. The Aquaclan apprentice smiled as he laid the first pick of the day, trying to start a pile. "Hey Thunderpaw! Is prey also so pleniful here in Beachclan?" he asked, surprised of their stock of food.

Shadow smiled. "Good catch," she said. Since she didn't want to look like a cat with no experience in hunting, she pinpointed a mouse scuffling in some bushes. She began to stalk it, keeping low and silent. Her father, Tom, had taught her how to hunt, and he had always been the quietest cat she knew. When she finally saw the mouse, she paused, waiting for the precise moment on which to make her kill. The mouse had his back turned toward her, so Shadow leaped, a graceful arch, if she did say so herself. The mouse didn't see it coming. Shadow, being the strange cat she was, had already named it Walnut. She quickly dispatched of Walnut and added him to the pile. She was very proud of herself.

Dragonpaw watched Shadow's way of hunting, he liked the way she had stalked it without the mouse knowing that she was there, usually they know at the last second. He smiled and purred a loud congrats. He padded over to a bush and flicked his ear, he heard at a bottom of a small Oak Tree. Without stalking he leaped, and out of no where, he had larger mouse in his jaws. He smiled once more and kicked his way over to the started pile. The tom smiled once more and started to climb a tree, waiting for his next piece to catch.

"Yes," Quailpaw meowed just as Thunderpaw opened his mouth. "It's very temperate here. Is it the same in AquaClan?" "How should I know?" he retorted. "Do you think I live in AquaClan?" "I wasn't suggesting that you did." Thunderpaw scowled and slunk off into the bushes in search of prey. He thought he had heard a mouse skittering about, but now he was not so sure...

Shadow sheepishly padded back into the gloom of the shadows, embarressed at how Dragonpaw had paid attention to her hunting. Though utterly jubilant that he had noticed at all, being congratulated wasn't in the daily basis of her life. Ocean did most of the hunting, wanting to take care of her kit, even though she was eight and a half moons old now, and was rarely congratulated on any other occasion. Scenting the air, she paused in her progress of hunting. She smelled a rabbit close by, but she also scented a chaffinch. Which should she choose to pursue? The rabbit, snuffling some ferns, proving to be the more difficult, or the chaffinch, pecking at some seeds, an easy catch? If Shadow chose the rabbit, she could easily miss it, embarressing herself further. But, on the other hand, if she caught it, she could be proud of herself and Dragonpaw and the other's might be more impressed. If she chose the chaffinch, then she would be able to come back with prey for the Clans, no matter what, and add to her number of freshkill caught in Clan territory. Shadow decided on the chaffinch, to be safe. Maybe she'd be able to catch a rabbit later, when she was more confident in herself. She stalked the chaffinch easily, smug to see that the bird had no idea it was being watched. She effortlessly pounced on the unsuspecting bird, padding back to the small pile the young cats had created and dropping her prize on top.

Dragonpaw wasn't paying attention to Shadow, he was now froze, watching three birds in a nest. His mouth watered as the large, most likely the dad, flew up to a smaller bird and a very small bird. The black apprentice then thought of family. He soon looked up seeing a woodpecker in a branch above him. He couldn't decide. The large bird in the nest made his mouth water, and he has never seen a bird so big. Dragonpaw flinched as he heard a Magpie call. The woodpecker and the two birds in the nest flew away. He stalked his way over to the nest, curiosly. His black head rolled over the nest to see a small little bird inside. I'll let it stay alive, till it's bigger, he thought. The Aquaclan apprentice leaped to another tree, seeing the Magpie who had made the call. Dragonpaw crept slowly up to it, while it cracked open a small seed. It had Twoleg stentch all over it. It probably just came back from Twolegs nest with the seed. Stupid Bird, he thought grimily as he leaped, gabbing the Magpies wing and hitting the ground quietly. The prey was still alive, he had only caught its wing. He closed his jaw ever more and made a big crunch, as it landed into the pile.

Shadow stalked back into the forest, scenting the air. Mm, mouse. She caught sight of it snuffling under some leaves. She tensed, waiting for the perfect moment, then sprung, killing the mouse with the impact of her paws. Smiling slightly, she brought her kill back to the small pile forming, which was covered in leaves and dirt so other predators would not come and help themselves. She dropped her kill on the pile.

Dragonpaw stopped and caught his breath. He laid down and gazed at Shadow. He was surprised of her performence. He smiled and went back to climbing the large Oak Tree he was in. He saw a squirrel in a small hole. The squirrel had saw him. Dragonpaw became angry and jumped into the hole, seeing some small holes inside the hole. He growled and finally lost the squirrel, falling out the bottom of the tree he found the squirrel once more. He pounced and finally was able to catch it. "That's what you get for messing with me!" he spat, taking it over to the pile.

Shadow slunk back into the forest, looking for means of prey. She found a chaffinch hopping around under a tree, and quickly killed it with a sharp SWAT! to the neck. She may only be eight moons old, but she was strong. She brought it back to the pile and decided to wait a little while. She was tired.

A lean spotted tom moved silentily through the forest, his paws recalling the territory with each step. He had hunted in BeachClan since his infamous apprenticehood and he envied that Coppertail still had acess to these hunting grounds. AquaClan was always wet and dark, the prey less than pleasant. More so since the fire had ripped through it. "This way," a large ginger tom murmured, shaking Owlspot from his daydreams. "I can scent the group ahead. I should've made Tigerstripe or Foxflame go with them."

Browntail followed Coppertail's small patrol. He sniffed the air and blinked his good eye. "Dragonpaw?" he called. Dragonpaw, as clumsy as he is fell out of the tree he was in, scared from the surprising call. "Browntail?" he hissed playfully as he hit the soft ground. Browntail sped up to get to his really, only friend. Taking a leap, he noticed he was with Beachclan's deputy. He could get snarled at because of his playfulness. Browntail stopped himself and took a thud to the ground, then taking off again and to a Birch tree. He kept a sharp eye on the small mouse on the roots. It was so small it was hard to figure out, so small that a kit couldn't be filled up by it. Browntail hissed loudly, showing the mouse he was going for it. It's too small, next new-leaf it should be bigger. he thought. Letting the mouse escape he let out a smile, then hissed again.
