A small, patchy tan-and-white form slunk along the shoreline. The cat's grey-green eyes were unfocused, seeing a world not quite like the one she truly walked in - a world where everyone was against her, where everything was pointless, where the only cats who'd ever understood her were dead. Why should she live, when life itself was but as pointless as everything else?
She didn't know what she was doing on the beach. In fact, she hadn't been on the clan territories for moons - not since she'd lost her son. Then again, she hadn't known what she was doing, or what she was supposed to be doing, for a long time. Why should things be any different now? She looked wistfully into the shimmering moonlight. It's time for me to leave, she realized. It was pointless for her to have lingered in this world so long, and there was an easy way out of it.
She glanced at the water splashing around her paws. It seemed to pull her toward its depths, even as she stood at the edge of it. Though she'd never liked the water, it felt - well, almost welcoming. Time to leave, time to leave, the gentle waves seemed to say, blending with her thoughts, calming her. Step by step, she padded into the shallows. When the water was dancing around her belly, she glanced back at the land once more. "Good-bye," she meowed softly to herself, and the words she hoped would be her last were carried away in the gentle breeze.
With that she ran - ran, for the fist time in moons, leaving a trail in the water that vanished as it came. And as she reached the deeper waters, where she could no longer touch the bottom, she gave herself to the ocean completely, letting herself sink below the surface.

ooc; which cat is this? I'm just not quite sure, I just like to be a little nosy in the clan territories as my nosy leader.

Ooc: The cat is Kaelia.
A bright auburn pelt stood out against the trees as the young tom weaved in out of the trees. It was a beautiful day and the young cat was out hunting, enjoying the cool breeze ruffling through his fur. He looked towards the beach, seeing a figure looking out at the waves. He was downwind, so he couldn't scent the cat, but it looked unfamiliar...He padded out onto the sand slowly, loving the feeling of sand under his paws. But it seemed it didn't matter if he was noisy, the cat seemed focus on something else. He moved closer as the cat suddenly ran into the ocean, going deeper and deeper. What was it doing?! Even Beachclan cats dared to go that far and they were great swimmers. The current could catch you and it was so deep! As he saw the cat slowly sink under the water and not resurface, he gasped, taking off into the waves. His powerful muscles rippled under his auburn fur as he swam strongly. He was aways a fast swimmer and he quickened his strokes here, seeing the cats body under the surface. He took a deep breath, diving under the water and grabbing the scruff of the cats neck. He pulled it to the surface gasping, not letting go for a breath in case he dropped it. He swam slowly, but steadily to the beach, padding up onto the sand and collapsing, gasping for breath. He took deep breaths, his chest rising in shuddering breaths. Salt water streamed off his fur and he looked to the cat in confusion. "W-what were you thinking?!" he said, coughing up water.

<ooc> Yeah, what Cat said. xD Sorry 'bout that. </ooc>
Kaelia drifted deeper and deeper into the black water - water that she was no longer able to distinguish from the blackness swallowing up her mind. She barley noticed the horrible sensation of drowning; though the water was seeping into her lungs, all she could feel was gentle blanket - almost like the soft moss she'd neglected to use for so long - slowly wrapping itself around her.
As she was about to vanish completely into that soft, welcoming world, however, she suddenly noticed the burning of the water inside her, the fact that she couldn't breathe. She was temporarily aware of something trying to pull her to the surface as she drifted in and out of consciousness.
The next thing she knew, she was on the shore again, lying on her belly and trying to cough up the water that had made its way into her body. She attempted to pull herself to her feet, only to collapse onto the sand once more. What was going on? What had she been doing? She struggled onto her side, craning her neck to see a blurry shape standing near her.
That was it. She was trying to leave, and someone - someone had pulled her back against her own will. She made an attempt to speak, but was only able to splutter out more water. She squirmed, in anger and in pain, unable to explain to the other cat what was going on.

Foxflame's bright pelt glistened in the sunlight as he regained his breath and shook the water from his pelt that was already drying. He noticed that the she-cat was still unable to respond as she coughed up more and more water. "Take your time, you swallowed a lot of water. No rush." he said calmly, looking up towards the sun, his amber eyes flashing golden. He couldn't get a clan scent from her, she was a rogue or kittypet or loner it seemed. What was wrong with him? Why did he save her? "Cause it was a cat in trouble!" he thought to himself, shaking his head,

Kaelia could still feel the salt water burning in her lungs and stomach, but she had gotten enough of it out to wheeze in some fresh air. She paused before attempting to speak again still wheezing and spluttering, and studying the cat who'd dragged her back suspiciously. He was a bright auburn tom, and he was young - much younger than Kaelia, by any means. I wonder how old he would be now... my son.
"Why... did- did you- bring me back?" She gasped finally, trying her best to give the young cat a glare. "I was - I was leaving."

Foxflame coughed once more, ignoring her glare. "I couldn't let a cat drown, besides, what you did is stupid. Why would you do something like that?" he asked, slightly annoyed. She could at least be grateful, he had saved her.....but, she said she was leaving....did she...had she PLANNED to drown herself? He eyed her curiously as she continued to cough up water.

"Life is mouse-brained," Kaelia snarled in response, before breaking into a fit of coughing. Like a cat so young could ever understand the perils it would eventually bring - when she was his age, she had longed to live for as long as possible. The world tricked you, she thought - it forced you to think it was such a wonderful place, then stabbed you in the back. And the only way to show that world how worthless it really was, was to turn your own back on its false beauty. When her bout of hacking finally ceased, she added, "I didn't want-" she coughed again, "-to be brought back."

"Yeah, well I didn't want[ to go for a big swim today, but I did, didn't I?" Foxflame snapped, his proud nature taking over. This cat was so ungrateful after he had risked his own life for hers. Sighing, he nudged the cat to her feet, supporting her. "Come on, I'll take you to camp for Quietshadow to get a look at you."

Kaelia let herself be nudged to a standing position, but quickly tried to pull herself away from the young auburn tom, nearly collapsing again in the process. "No!" she spat hoarsely, giving another cough. "I don't need help - especially not from you clan cats, anyway. It's pointless, you know - What I want is to leave, and you're not going to change that." She was trying to hold herself up in a sort of crouching position; her neck hunched over her front legs, which were bent and held far apart for stability. Desperately, she looked over her shoulder toward the ocean - she knew she didn't have the strength to travel that far out again.

Foxflame sighed, shaking his head. "I'm not going to fight you, you're too weak." he said, and to show his point, he lifted a paw and nudged her lightly. The slight nudge even knocked her over. Foxflame rolled his eyes and helped her up again. "Stop arguing and come on, you need help. Stay at least till your healthy. Then you can leave whenever you want then." he said, ignoring the clan cat remark. This old she-cat was getting on his last nerves, testing his patience.

Kaelia exhaled softly, realizing that he was probably right - an argumentative tone would be pointless here. However, there was no way this cat could convince her to let herself be taken back to his stupid little 'clan.' "I wasn't planning to fight," she meowed, her voice monotonous. "It's just as pointless as everything else, and I don't get what you clan cats see in it, anyway." She sat down, as if to show her change in aggression. "But even of you tried to take me back, I doubt any clan would take a rogue into their care - especially one who's going to die anyway." She was slightly amused at the fact that she'd been able to say all that without coughing, though she could still feel her lungs burning.

Foxflame sighed, shaking his head. "I'll...I'll get Icestar to listen to me somehow. Just come with me, I won't feel right about this if I just leave you." he said, thinking...hoping Icestar would listen to him, her old apprentice. He knew just as well as anyone about her attitude towards Rogues since Burntstar. "Come on." he said, nudging her to her feet.

Kaelia allowed herself to cough again, then gritted her teeth. "I think I've made it clear to you several times that I don't want to live," she meowed, her tone flat as ever. She couldn't remember having the tiniest bit of emotion in her voice since her son had been taken from her, all those moons ago. "What I do want is to be left alone - and it doesn't look like you're going to stop annoying me until I've done what you want, does it?" She snorted, spluttering a little as she did so. "Fine. I despise you clan cats, but I couldn't care less what anyone thinks of me anymore. If you want to do something so utterly pointless as to bring me back, go right ahead - and if your little friends decide to kill me anyway, so be it." The last time she'd said that much at once, she'd been talking to her son.

Foxflame sighed, then continued to push her forward with him in guidance. "Okay then." was all he said, coughing slightly as salt water ran down his whiskers. He had to go slower with the old she-cat, but he was tired anyway. Exerting himself that much at once made his muscles sore and he could swear there was still saltwater and seaweed in his lungs. This cat was a lot of trouble, he wasn't just going to leave her. "Why do you not want to live anyway?" he finally asked as they were a little through the forest.

Kaelia let herself be carried along by the younger cat - resisting would have been pointless, anyway. As they continued over the rough terrain, he began talking to her again. Kaelia let out a snort of laughter at his question; however, turned into coughing as more water spluttered up. She reagined her composture at last, wheezing slightly. "Why do I not want to live?" she croaked, staring at the younger cat almost expressionlessly. "Because it's pointless. It stabs you in the back, and it's pointless. I don't know if you've seen it yet, but I can assure you, you will."

Foxflame looked forward, not facing her as she laughed at him. He didn't find the question funny, but apparently she did. And his eyes stayed on the forest ahead as he asked the next question. "But there has to be something you live for." he said, thinking about his own. "As long as I have my clan and family, I don't think I'll see it." he said thoughtfully before going quiet.

"Have a wonderful time with that," Kaelia murmured, almost sarcastically. "Family. Hah!" She really couldn't care less whether he was happy or not; no doubt, he'd lose something he lived for eventually, or everything - as she had. As she glanced at the ground, she realized that this was probably the very forest she and her son had once walked through, ten - no, maybe fifteen moons ago. It was rather ironic, thinking about how short a period it was in contrast to how long it had seemed.

Foxflame's ears flattened and he scowled slightly, almost snapping back at her, but controlling his temper. Which was hard, it was almost as fiery as his fur. "So, what did you lose?" he asked finally, after counting to ten mouse tails in his head and breathing in the rich scent of Beachclan.

Kaelia looked at the young cat bemusedly, noticing that he didn't appear all too happy at her response. She wondered how long it'd take him to ultimately react, though she didn't particularly feel the need to purposely antagonize him. She was wheezing slightly and beginning to tire - she probably wouldn't make it back to camp without stopping to rest. When the auburn tom spoke again, she looked away, though her eyes flickered backward in his direction. "Everything," was all she said in response, her tone emotionless. Telling him would be pointless - she could barely remember what had happened herself.

Foxflame slowed, letting Kaelia catch her breath. She needed help soon. "That doesn't give much of an answer. What do you have against clan cats?" he asked curiously, looking around as he waited on her.

"Demanding, aren't you?" Kaelia snapped. She'd noticed the young tom beginning to slow down, and took the opportunity to pause and sit down for a moment, breathing laboriously. The other cat's curiosity was starting to twist at her already knotted mind - what business did some clan cat have to know everything about her, when she herself did not? She had no need to tell him any more, so she simply ignored his first statement, moving on to his question. "I never said I had anything against clan cats," she meowed darkly. "I certainly don't know much about you, anyway, other than the fact that you're annoying me." She gave the tom a slight glare as she said this, then switched to a tone that was slightly more casual. "It's your lifestyle. It's pointless."

Foxflame chuckled, shaking his head as his mood lightened. "You sound like my sister." he said about her comment of the annoying. He must sound like a curious apprentice, as he had been to his sister and Icestar. But he wanted to know about the cat he had just risked his life for. "Apparently, a lot of things are pointless to you. Explain." he said, not demanding, just a statement, his ears twitching at the forest sounds.

Kaelia pulled herself back up, testing out her paws again, and coughed a few times before turning back to the young tom. "Just think about it," she replied calmly. "You say you live for your clan and your family. So, what then? You all run around attacking and killing other cats so you can have a happier life? Why fight and lose everything, when you could have simply run away from it all? Why bother caring about anything? You might call yourself happy, but I've never seen happiness as something real." She looked at the morning light beginning to ripple through the trees. "Life... it teases you by making you happy, so it will be all the more painful when it's taken away. And that's when you finally see it - you realize how terribly pointless the whole charade really was." She wondered whether the auburn cat would actually understand what she was saying.

Foxflame raised an eyebrow at what she was saying. It completely went against the whole warrior code. He shrugged as he answered, starting to walk again as she got to her feet. "Well, what would be the point of running away? There's definately no happiness in that, your life is wasted running from things you must face eventually. Life does gone on, even if we don't want it to." He was quiet another minute, then shrugged. "Well, I don't know if I know all about that. But as you've said, I'm still young and don't know everything, but I do know that /I/ am happy just doing what I know is right and not running away from it."

Life's a waste anyway, Kaelia thought, deciding that it'd be pointless to say it aloud. And running doesn't waste it any more - it ends it. At least, it was supposed to. She snorted. "You go ahead and stick to whatever you want to believe, then," she meowed hoarsely. "I can't change it, and I honestly don't care about what you think." She continued to drag her feet a little ways behind him, but her gaze was slightly curious. What would happen if everything the young tom lived for - his family, his 'clan,' or whatever - ended up gone? Could anyone ever really have the will - or the stupidity, in her opinion - to keep going? It'd be interesting to find out, she had to admit.

((OOoo, gets interesting....maybe something like that shall happen later....))
Foxflame was glad they finally reached the entrance of camp. Just because now he was dead tired that even his paws were starting to drag. He didn't even respond to Kaelia, just yawned and blinked the drowsiness out of his eyes. "You don't care about anything..." he murmured, almost more to himself than her.

<ooc> Ooh, that would be interesting. I love how deep this is getting. xD </ooc>
Kaelia paused bemusedly at the entrance, slightly surprised by how organized this place seemed already. If she'd had to live in such a planned-out way, she realized, she'd have tried to drown herself long, long ago. Feeling another coughing fit coming on, she sat down for a moment before hacking up even more water. She heard the other cat's quiet comment, and at first she stayed silent. No, she didn't care about anything - and what of it? Caring was pointless. Weakly, she pulled herself up once more. "So this is your camp," she rasped. "Huh."
