Deadsoul limped up and down the field of mice and larger cats. All the cats were bigger than him. He never showed fear. But he was worried about getting bullied on. He just wanted a friend or some cat to talk to. He saw mice run up and down the muddy ground. His stomach growled. But he didn't feel like eating at the moment. He felt like a thief. He sighed. He looked up at the sky. The clouds showed that Starclan was watching him. What if he didn't go up to Starclan? What if his place was the land of no stars. He frowned. He really didn't want to go anywhere at the moment. He snifted the air. There was prey everywhere. But cats crawling up and down the field too. He hung low, his stomach iched from the ichy grass.

"Hello." Nightshade slunk across the mud. Her small, white paws were sucked into the mud; every step was a strange squlech. Her tail was flagged high in a curious sort of manner. "Awful weather, eh? Where I'm from it's always cold and dry." She narrowed her eyes with abhorrence for the current climate conditions.

Deadsoul jumped seeing the she-cat from out of surprise. "Yeah. So, you were a warrior right? I'm Deadsoul, you?" He meowed. "I'm from Aquaclan. I was exiled. That's why I only have one eye," he meowed. Then he blinked his one eye. His whisker twitched as the wind blew.

Badger sniffed at the muddy ground, disliking it greatly. Unfortunately, it was the only ground here and stars above, he wouldn't be caught dead in a clan's territory. they outnumbered him about 23 to one.

Nightshade flicked her ears back in surprise. "Uh, I was. I'm from MountainClan--really far away," she added hastily. "I left because I agreed to be the leader's mate--long story--to earn my warrior name." The rogue shrugged. "What'd you get exiled for? Oh, and hi, Badger."

"I got exiled because I started battle to kill my leader, I hated him, then they tore out my one eye and one of my claws is long gone," he meowed. "My sister and mother are looked at with growling and unfriendly faces of for what I've done. My sister tried to stop them from clawing out one of my eyes, but they clawed up her chest, not one cat went to her to get her help." He sighed.

Nightshade fluffed up her chest fur. "That's mean," she meowed, indignant. "We both had pieces of fox-dung for leaders in our old Clans. By the way, my name is Nightshade."

He purred to she agreeing to the joke about his fox-dung leader. "Yeah. Now, I can't really see out of my other eye but I have great ears. So I can hear a lot of noise up to 10 tail lengths away." he purred. "So, what have you been doing lately out here?" he meowed.

"Not much. I just arrived, to tell the truth." She licked her paw. "If you can see. my pads are hard from living up in the mountains all this time." Nightshade held up the paw to allow Deadsoul to get a closer look.

Deadsoul nodded. "You must of traveled along way, because I believe that Mountainclan is past the moonpool." he meowed. "You must of be really tired." Deadsoul purred.

"Yep." Nightshade flicked her tail. "I got her a couple days ago, though. I've gotten some rest. It's nice to be back in one spot instead of on the road all the time." She stretched out on her belly, being lazy as usual.

He purred "I feel the same way, but I'm always sneeking into the camp to visit my sister." "How about we go and find a barn or something so we can find a place to sleep tonight, it's going to rain," He confirmed.

She tasted the air. "Ugh, I think you're right. It snows a lot higher up in the mountains. Around this time of year, the mountains flood. We have to be careful about where we stay then so we don't die." Nightshade looked around. "Anything close?"

"I think a barn might be close. But I'm not sure. I've never been around here, but I do know that there might be a hollow in Aquaclan territory if we can't find it." he meowed. "It might take alittle longer but it might save us from drowning in the rain." he sighed.

"That would be good." She lifted her head. "I think there's something over there," Nightshade meowed, flicking her tail to the north. "Should we go take a look?"

Deadsoul nodded. "We can try, we have a little while till the rain starts to pour like cats falling from the sky," he murmured. He smiled and crouched down to the ground and started to crawl.

"Okay." Nightshade padded after him, not bothering to crouch. What was the point, anyways? Who was out there to attack them? The sky to the north and west was growing progressively darker. The storm would soon come.

Deadsoul felt a shiver go through his spine. He new someone was out to kill him. He looked back to see the black she-cat still behind him. Atleast I have her to keep me company. Then he smelled mice and cats. Oh no, I wonder whats coming for us, Deadsoul wondered.

She continued to trot along after Deadsoul, mind blank. Nightshade fluffed up her pelt as a chilly breeze blew through the field. "I think we're getting closer," she meowed finally. The she-cat flicked her tail.

Burntstar moved gracefully towards the cats despite his large shape. His mate, a slender ginger she-cat followed him, her paws being sucked into the mud. A larger calico tom plodded beside them, his eyes narrowed and his face twisted in a scowl. It was Cactus from the rogue nest. The black, long limbed form of Spider scampered beside. He appeared to be jabbering in their ears. Suntail seemed interested but Cactus was constantly hissing and glaring at him.

"Wait," Nightshade mewed to Deadsoul. I hear something." She sniffed the air and turned around. The rogue managed to make out the forms of the five cats behind them, despite the rapidly darkening sky. "Who are you?" she hissed. Her fur was fluffed up, her back was arched, and her tail was raised in an attempt to display dominance. Nightshade had reverted to her instincts of a mountain rogue: You first, them later.

Burntstar stopped in front of Nightshade and nodded to her smiling. "Found you," he meowed. Cactus growled, baring his teeth and unsheathing his claws. Suntail's pelt fluffed up, not in anger, but in an attempt to protect her from the cold wind. "No!" meowed Spider in terror," Don't hurt her!" Cactus whirled around on him. "Are you telling me what not to do?" he hissed. Inside of cringing back he stood and glared back in defiance. "Yes I am!" he spat. "Enough!" snapped Burntstar," How can we fight the clans if we're already fighting among ourselves?"

Deadsoul stood up. "I'm Deadsoul, I started the one battle that killed a lot of cats, they ripped out my one eye and ran me out." he meowed. "I have heard of you sending battle?" he paused. "I would like to join you, I can't stand my old leader," he spat. "Please, I need to defeat him," he meowed dipping his head. "Your Burntstar right? I was a apprentice when you were exiled." Deadsoul murmured.

"Deadsoul?!" Burntstar exclaimed," I can't believe it's you. I didn't recognise you...the name I mean and the eye. Jaystar did this to you?" The tom was clearly shocked. Suntail gasped when she cuaght sight of the tom. She had helped train him when she was in the clan. "You caused that battle with RainClan?" she meowed. Cactus snarled. "Yes we're having a battle. We expect all of you to be there. At moonpool. Owlspot will tell us when," he meowed furiousily.

Deasoul bowed his head. He looked up at Silverpelt. Sorry I'm doing this, it's for the sake of my life! What if they lose! Then the clans could take over the rouge nest! Deadsoul thought. "Thank you," he whispered. Then he looked at Nightshade and then looked at the leader. "Do you know where we can find shelter in this joint?" He asked.

"Shelter later," Nightshade hissed. "Who are you and why are you here?" She didn't care that she was provoking the wrath of perhaps the most evil and ruthless cat in the forest. Nor did she know. The she-cat shifted her weight between her front paws in a standoffish manner.

"Thank-you for your co-operation Deadsoul," Burntstar meowed, nodding to the tom. Cactus snarled when Nightshade began hissing at them. He took a step forward but was pulled back by his daughter. Suntail shook her head. "She has a right to be frightened and defend herself," she meowed to her father. Spider turned to Nightshade with pleading eyes. It hadn't taken him long to relise that Nightshade wasn't a fighting cat. Cactus could easily kill her. "Sorry I haven't introduced myself," Burntstar meowed, ignoring what his friends were doing. "My name is Burntstar, this is my mate Suntail-" he indicated the slender ginger she-cat with a flick of his tail"- This is her father-" he indicated the large calico tom "- And I'm sure you've met Spider before. We're plotting to attack the clans to gain some respect for rogues, kittypets and exiles alike. We want to be treated just like any clan cat is."

"You really do?" Nightshade meowed, the hostile tone somewhat fading from her voice. She personally wasn't remotely fond of Clan cats, despite being a former one herself. Yet this tom was much larger than her and could probably snap her spine in two easily. "I'm Nightshade," she finally replied. Her bright green eyes surveyed the group somewhat critically. "I want to attack the Clan cats not for respect, but power. I think I'll need some training--my fighting's a little rusty." That was far from the truth. Although Nightshade was a decent hunter, she couldn't fight well if her life depended on it. Her claws were somewhat sharp, but she was a small cat and not very strong. Plus, she knew absolutely no battle techniques.

Deadsoul smiled. "She's right, we need a little power ourselves. And I think attacking is the only way to go." he confirmed. He looked around. "I can get help from my family, maybe my sister would want to help us out, but my mother is helpless. Not one cat cares for her in the clan. She only has three legs, she was born like that," he meowed. "And I'm tired of letting them walk all over my mother. So I'll go talk to Redwind." he murmured.

"I don't have any family around here," she mewed. "My father, Coalfur, told me that he used to live in this forest and he had a kit with this she-cat by the name of Shorttail, but they're probably both long gone." She yawned widely, not knowing that her half-brother was alive and well in BeachClan.
