A black tom shouldered through the thick undergrowth and stood staring at the partially hidden nest. He held the branches back for his companion and turned to her smiling. "I know it was a long walk but it was worth it," he meowed cheerfully, his voice only showing a bit of tiredness he felt. "The abandoned twoleg nest!" Spider announced grandly. He swept his tail in a smooth motion towards their hopefully new home. It was no dug out rabbit warren but it was something at least.

Nightshade followed him through the brush and blinked. "What in the name of StarClan is this? Oh wait, I heard you. Old twoleg nest." She frowned in disgust. "Can we check it for rats first? Being killed as I sleep isn't really my puddle of water, you know." Her voice lacked any compassion for that old nest. "It looks ready to collapse."

Spider snorted. "It's fine." He padded through the long grass up towards the nest. "We don't have to sleep inside you know," he told her," We can sleep under the porch. There's no rats there. I know because I stay here sometimes and the rats here are so stupid they run into your paws." He laughed and lept up the three rickety wooden stairs, then onto the porch's small barrier. He licked his paw as he waited for her.

"Okay. I don't care then, as long as there isn't anything else that will eat, dismember, or murder me in any way, shape, or form." She bounded after Spider with a decent speed for such a small cat. "Training tomorrow, right? And I guess this doesn't count as being a kittypet because twolegs don't live here now. It's like how staying in an abandoned badger den doesn't make you a badger."

Spider laughed. "I knew that was all you were worrying about!" He lept down from the barrie and stood in front of Nightshade. "Tommorow I will teach you how to catch birds and mice and therefore the rats you fear so much." He skipped back down the steps and around to the side of the porch. Several of the wooden panels were missing along the side and the black tom slipped into the empty space. The ground was sandy with a few pebbles and sticks. Several moons earlier he had placed some moss under there and he curled into a ball to sleep on a patch of it. "Night! Well...near dawn," he yawned, correcting himself.

"Rats don't scare me," she meowed indignantly. "Being killed by rats scares me. Anyway, that training thing sounds fun. It'll be nice to be able to catch my own prey. Better, anyway." Nightshade followed Spider through the missing panel and found a spot with pine needles scattered over the floor. She used her tail to sweep them into a big pile and added a bit of moss for her nest. The rogue collapsed into the nest with a sigh. Now that smells like home.
ooc: Should we just skip to the next morning?

ooc;// Yep.
Spider woke as sun beams filtered through the floor boards above. He yawned and stretched his forelegs out in front of him. "Morningish Nightshade," he meowed groggily," Time for training."

She yawned loudly, stood, and shook pine needles from her fur. "Okay. I smell like pine. Will that be a bad thing?" Nightshade stretched her shoulders and legs. She had slept pretty well in the makeshift nest. The pine reminded her of the mountain scent when you were approaching the tree line. Everything intensified there.

Deadsoul walked around the old twoleg nest. "Hello," he meowed. "Um, guys," he began, "I have to tell you something. I've joined back into Aquaclan to help my sister and mother, they are all I have," he meowed, looking at his paws. "I'm sorry, but I won't forget you guys," he meowed silently, touching noses with Nightshade. "I promise," he purred quietly. He stepped back and waited for a reply. Redwind padded through the ally, looking for her brother. "Deadsoul," she hissed. She ran into the rouges and Deadsoul. "Deadsoul! You know your in Rainclan territory! With rouges!" she hissed. "I was just saying good-bye to my old friends," Deadsoul meowed. "Please, they the only friends I have," he pleaded. Redwind nodded. "Fine, I won't tell unless you do this again. Lets get out of here," she hissed, walking away. Deadsoul walked up to Nightshade. "I'll never forget you most of all, and I'll visit you a lot." he whispered. He licked her cheak and back away.

"All right. If you see Quietshadow, tell him I said hi. Spider and I are going to train. May StarClan light your path, Deadsoul." Nightshade shook some clumps of moss off of herself. She turned back to Spider. "Okay, training now?" she meowed, voice now accented with an eager tone.

Deadsoul smiled. He was happy that she was still his friend. "May Starclan be with you also." he purred. "Coming?" hissed Redwind. "Yes!!! Hold on!" Deadsoul hissed. "Well you better hurry up before Rainclan finds us!" she spat. Deadsoul started to pad after his sister. Redwind started to run into Frostclan territory. "Come on! We have a lot of land to run if we want to get home," she spat. Deadsoul nodded and ran with her.

"Hello?! Are you coming, Spider?" Nightshade's tone had risen to an impatient one and she flicked her tail. Warrior training was not something to be put off--even if both of the cats were rogues. She stretched her fore legs out in front of herself and yawned.

"Bye!" Spider called out to the two AquaClan warriors. It was nice to see friends. "I thought apprentices were meant to be nice to their mentors?" Spider joked as Nightshade whined at him. "Patience is the key to being a good fighter and hunter," he meowed in a pompus old voice. He held his head and tail high trying to seem like what he thought was an old and wise mentor.

"Whoops." Nightshade cleared her throat and put on a falsely soft voice. "Lovely day, isn't it, my dear Spider? I know, it is. Do you know what else is lovely? Patience. Which I possess as much of as there are StarClan cats in the sky." Her voice was polite and had a sarcastic overtone.

Spider laughed. "Well my darling Nightshade, this lovely day we will be chasing something equally as lovely as your patience. Mice." He flicked his tail and began quietily creeping through the grass. he kept his pawsteps light and his tail just above the ground.

Nightshade slunk after Spider, trying to mimic his light step. Despite the fact that she was a small cat, she was not the most graceful. The rogue stumbled but managed to keep her balance. There was a lot more to hunting than what met the eye.

"Less like a badger, more like a swan," Spider whispered to Nightshade. His tone was light and playful. His hind legs were bunched up underneath him and he swayed on his haunches. "See how I'm crouching?" he meowed," Legs tucked under so you can pounce quickly."

Nightshade smiled at his comment and carefully tucked her hind legs underneath her body. "Like this?" she whispered back. She slightly folded her front legs under; not as much, but less so she would be able to grasp prey with her forepaws. "And are my front legs okay?"

"Much better," Spider meowed," Now let's see you stalking." He turned away and began creeping across the ground again. He carefully pushed the long grass out his way with his shoulders. "Watch out for the grass and anything else that could make a sound," he whispered.

"Okay," she mewed, carefully picking up each paw and setting it down with just as much precision. It was silent but slow. "How do you catch anything this way?" Nightshade asked in a whisper. "By the time I reach any prey, it'll be long dead!"

"Well usually you would start stalking when you see the prey," Spider laughed. "Let's see what we can find, he whispered, sniffing the air. He drank in the air, trying to scent anything. He could smell Redwind and Deadsoul's scents, his own and Nightshade's. There was alos the scent of a mouse hiding. "Got something."

"Oh, okay." She flicked her tail and also sniffed. "I smell it too. I can identify scents fine, you know." Nightshade looked in the direction of the prey-scent, hoping to detect a scuffling in the leaves covering the ground or a small, brown body hiding in a bush.

"Would you like to attempt to catch it or to do you want me to demonstrate?" Spider asked in a whisper. He was slowly creeping forward, his whiskers twitching.

"You can get it first," Nightshade replied, not twitching a muscle--other than to talk, of course. She figured it would be best to start this training session on a positive note, and Spider was far more likely to catch the mouse than she was.

Spider smiled and crept forward. He placed his paws purposefully one in front of the other. Yellow eyes fixed on the rodent, he pounced. His forepaws pinned the creture to the ground and he dispatched into with a quick bite. "Ta da," he meowed.

"Nice," she meowed, smiling. "I think I smell one in that holly bush over there. See?" Nightshade flicked her tail at the bush. Its lowermost leaves were softly rustling as the rodent scuffled about. Prey-scent carried on the breeze drifted towards the two cats. Nightshade eagerly drank in the smell. Mmmmm...lunch.

ooc;// Weird. I was sure I had posted. bic;// Spider brushed fallen leaves over his catch before drinking in the air. Nightshade was right, there was a mouse in the holly bush. He hadn't scented that before. "Wow," he breathed," You're good. Off you go then." He flicked his tail and took a few steps back. He made sure not to make a sound as even the slightest crack would alert their prey. Well, her prey.

Nightshade slowly stalked along toward the bush. Her small paws did not make a sound as they carried her between crunchy piles of dead leaves and pine needles. Finally, she was within striking distance. She pounced at the mouse and managed to get a paw on it. Nightshade unsheathed her claws so they dug into the prey. It let out a chilling final squeak and was dead. She carefully lifted it out of the bush with her paw before transferring it to her mouth. The holly bush had left a few small scratches on her pelt, but nothing serious. Triumphantly, she padded back to Spider, fresh-kill in mouth.

"Congratulations," Spider meowed with pride in his voice," Your first catch under my mentoring." "Would you like to sit on the porch and eat?" he asked, turning to were he had buried his prey. His tail was curled almost like a question-mark.

She nodded, dropping the mouse at her paws. "Let's go then." Nightshade proceeded to pick the rodent up by its tail so it was dangling from her mouth. It was the way kittypets in the twoleg movies always presented the fresh-kill to their master. As if they would want anything to do with it.
