Maplepaw's eyes fell to the ground. She honestly didn't know what to say. Lightningpaw had got himself into a mess he couldn't even begin to imagine. Memories of the battle with BurntClan flashed through her mind's eye and she remembered how amongst the rogues an AquaClan warrior fought with them. Sure, he was Burntstar's son, but did Lightningpaw have another strength to fight off not just Burntstar's influence but his brother's? Even more painfully, she felt that he was right in assuming she couldn't trust him. She had felt the power that Burntstar's training had given him and she knew that he could kill her. More likely, Heronpaw would kill her first. Maplepaw shuddered and shook quickly. "I don't know what to do either!" she cried. Her voice was getting higher as fear took hold. "How long have you been doing this?! StarClan help me...You'll be killed." She took a deep breath to stabilise herself, all the time her tail was flicking against the ground in agitation. "I don't know Burntstar. You could ask Honeyfrost but, oh no, she'll have a fit. Why didn't you just leave him alone?"

Lightningpaw sighs, looking down at his paws in frustration. "I know, that would have been the smart thing to do! But I was worried about Heronpaw and I was scared! You can't just say no to a cat like that with two dangerous rogues to back him up." He explained, remembering the night vividly. He got to his feet, pacing now. "I know his moves, but I don't want to use them. Their dangerous to cats not used to them and I feel like such a traitor....Dad would kill us and I never want to let him down!" He said, looking to her desperately before pacing again. "It's been a few moons but I feel like a can't just call it quits or I'll be in some big trouble." He sighed, looking to her sadly. "Look, I know you probably want to stay away from me now, that's why I was so hesitant to tell you. I understand and don't worry, I'm not upset about it and I won't bother you anymore. Just keep and eye on Heronpaw." He said, eyes downcast as he started to leave.

She sat quietly as he spoke, pacing about the clearing. Maplepaw didn't utter a word, just listened. She really was quite unsure of what she was meant to do now. If Burntstar still had rogues backing him, just as Lightningpaw said, the apprentice would have no chance of escaping. While there existed a chance for Lightningpaw to hide from the rogues in the safety of camp if he did decide to end the lessons, he would be unable to escape his brother. Maplepaw thought of Orchidtail and Hawkstar. The she-cat would be heartbroken by the betrayal of her sons, their leader even more. She simply couldn't think of anyway to help him. A darker part of the ginger apprentice's mind wondered if this was all StarClan's doing. Her own sister had been Orchidtail's apprentice, Lightningpaw's mother, and she had trained with a rogue, albiet a friendly one. Yet Sunpaw had paid for her secret training with death. Was Orchidtail to lose another apprentice, this time her son? I don't want him to die...I don't want him to leave! "Wait Lightningpaw!" she cried lightly, taking a few steps after him. She pushed past the ferns that surrounded the clearing. Droplets of water decorated her pelt like silver beads. "StarClan knows I am confused, I really don't know what to think anymore but I know that I don't want you to go altogether...." She stood there, staring at him with wide eyes. Maplepaw was unsure whether she could trust him, but seeing how relaxed Lightningpaw had been talking to her moments before told her he was being sincere. He was truly afraid of what he had done and what was going to happen. Lightningpaw scared her but Heronpaw and Burntstar scared her even more.

Lightningpaw turned, his eyes glowing in the darkness. They weren't the eyes of a killer like Burntstar's or of a cat proud of his actions. They were scared and unsure, much like a kit who had wandered out of the nursery. This truly scared him. But now confusion and curiousity sparked in his green eyes, studying her. "R-really...?" He asked quietly, his ears twitching in anticipation. With all this, he would need a friend to help him get through this and he really hadn't wished to lose Maplepaw.

Maplepaw's own eyes were filled with confusion and a wariness. She wasn't entirely sure what she wanted or what emotions she was feeling but she knew she didn't want to lose Lightningpaw. He had finally relaxed in her presence and she had ruined it with her nosiness, however good natured it had been. She gave a small nod to his question. Maplepaw swallowed but otherwise she didn't move or lose eye contact. The black and white tom was so afraid. How could she just leave him in the dark to fend for himself? "Of course....," she meowed softly, sincerly. "I-I'll help you."

Lightningpaw really wanted to go up and thank her but, he refrained himself, since he could still see fear in her eyes when she looked at him. He smiled slightly, dipping his head. "Thank you Maplepaw....I just needed to tell someone..." He sighed, glancing back towards the direction of camp. "Just...don't let Heronpaw know I told you, alright? First of all, I don't know what he'll do and he'll tease me like crazy for sure." The sun was slowly rising at his words and the bright light made the raindrops on his pelt sparkle brightly. "We should start back.."

"I wouldn't dream of it," Maplepaw meowed. She thought Lightningpaw was underestimating his brother. It seemed to her that Heronpaw was way past teasing and would do something far more sinister if he was to find out. Still attempted to hide her whirlwind of emotions, she returned his weak smile and slipped past him. In any other circumstance, she would of brushed up against him or flicked his ears with her tail but at that moment, she really wanted the distance. "Let's go home. We'll have to fetch new moss for our beddings," she sighed.

Lightningpaw noticed this difference and nodded, feeling so....much like mouse dung. He sighed, nodding. "Yeah..go ahead. I'll catch up." He slowed down his pace, watching her go ahead of him. Normally, he'd love to race her or just walk beside her, but not now. She didn't want him. Who would? He was a traitor and wasn't to be trusted. Yet...he craved that trust so bad. Sighing once more, he followed her, ears and tail down.
