Heart pounding in his ears, Hawktalon padded through the mist towards the Moonpool. He took a breath to calm the emotions running through him. Never had he thought....well, he never would have expected to be here now. Not that it hadn't occured to him when he was named Deputy. Blizzardstar was just always there and now that she wasn't, the pressure seemed more than ever. He closed his eyes a moment, thinking about what was about to happen.

Morningstar walked into the mistypool and waited for the ex-deputy. She smiled to smell the young cat. But then she thought of sweet Blizzardstar, Sweet but doesn't think, falling off a cliff nine time! Come on! Morningstar rolled her eyes.

Sunpaw crept through the mist. Her eyes brightened when she spotted Hawktalon. She resisted the temption to bound over to him and instead stood at Morningstar's side. Two my cats broke through the mist. They walked side by side, their flanks touching. One was a lean, lightly built pale she-cat and the other was a stocky and powerful ginger and white tabby. They were Lilywing and Robinfur, Orchidtail's parents. At the time of their deaths Lilywing was a small, weak and over-protective cat. Now she seemed relaxed and strong. Her mate had died of infected wounds. He had began scrawny, weak and feverish. The wound was nowhere to be seen and he seemed like he could take on the world. They dipped their heads in turn to Hawktalon and joined the slowly growing circle of cats.

Hawktalon dipped his head respectively to Morningstar, a smile on his face. Then he saw Sunpaw come in beside her, followed by Lilywing and Robinfur. He dipped his head to each of the cats in turn, looking for one cat in particular he hoped would be there. Then a familiar scent hit him and he felt his nerves disappear. The scent that was warm and fresh and a moment later, a large, broad shouldered grey tom padded in beside Sunpaw. His appearance was the same as Hawktalon remembered before Stormheart died. Strong and muscular, but with a kind, proud smile on his face. Stormheart sat down next to Sunpaw, proud of his apprentice, but containing his excitement. He motioned his tail to the side to indicate the next to cats approaching. Hawktalon's eyes widened with surprise as the other two familiar figures came into view. His parents. A pure black tom padded into the clearing beside a slender, small white she-cat with a golden tail. Suntail's fur gleamed with radiance in the moonlight as she looked to her son with joy. Blackpelt dipped his head to his son proudly, his blue eyes bright as stars. Hawktalon smiled with joy and relief at the familiar faces, not so nervous. His parents and mentor were here. They believed in him and were here for him. Blinking his blue eyes, he turned back to Morningstar.

Morningstar nodded, "Now, you can start your journey to having the wonder nine lives. Take a sip of the cool water and fall asleep, may Starclan guide you there," she meowed. She nodded. She smiled to see the cat and that another journey shall begin.

Hawktalon nodded, crouching down beside the MoonPool. He saw his reflection shimmering in glittering water. He also saw the other cats of Starclan's reflections, brighter and more radiant than his own. He looked back to his face, surprised by what he saw. What he saw was a strong, powerful leader with confidence and pride in his eyes. Was that really him? Was that how others saw him? Closing his eyes, he leaned his muzzle foward, touching the water and taking a small sip of the cool, fresh water.

Morningstar waited for the Hawtalon to fall asleep, once she new he was sharing tounges with them she jumped on the rock in the middle of the pool and looked up. "By the power of Starclan, we have a new leader, his name shall be Hawkstar! Let him gain the power of nine lives and use them for good and to protect his clan, Starclan, the forest, and other clan cats." she meowed to Silverpelt. Lightning struck to show that Morningstar had the power to hand the new leader his nine lives. She touched noses with the cat. "Now promise me you shall never use these powers for evil," she decleared.

Hawktalon, no, Hawkstar blinked as Morningstar spoke, getting to his feet. He dipped his head, his blue eyes shining with a new light. They looked just like his father's. "I promise I will never use these powers granted to me by Starclan, for evil." he replied firmly, his voice strong and sure. Stormheart smiled with pride, nodding to Hawkstar with encouragement.

Sunpaw walked calmly and proudly over to Hawkstar. Her amber eyes blazed with excitement and her gold tabby pelt stood on end. She craned her head up to touch her nose to Hawkstar. "With this life I give you wisdom," she meowed loudly," Use it when cats come to you for advice" Words filled Hawkstar's head. Advice given to her as a playful kit from her mother, advice from clan cats, stories from elders and dawns of training and hunting with Orchidtail and Faunus. It all faded away into one sudden relisation; You're not Faunus! There was a flash and it was all gone.

Hawkstar bent his head to touch noses with the young apprentice, blinking at her words. He felt her emotions as his own, feeling the trust of the cats that surrounded and the shock of her death. As the images faded and she backed up, he nodded his head to her quietly. Next, Stormheart padded to up to his old apprentice, touching noses with him. "With this life, I give you courage to do what's right, even at the cost of your life." As he spoke, Hawkstar's eyes slipped shut, feeling the pride of his mentor. He could feel the joy and happiness of being able to help his clan through Stormheart's eyes. Then the pain of the decision and the attack of the dog that ended his life hit him. As Stormheart pulled back, Hawkstar gasped, feeling as if he had died himself. Stormheart gave a small smile, stepping back to join the others.

Morningstar stepped up with a light floating in front of her. "This, I shall give you strength," she meowed. "Now use it to guide your clan, and the forest, so that everyone can use you as a leader, no warrior anymore, but a leader," she purred.

Lilywing padded up to Hawkstar. The stars stood out on her already gleaming white pelt and her pale green eyes twinkled with a soft happiness. She touched her nose to Hawkstar's and her voice rung out as a rough yet gentle meow. "With this life I give you love. Use it well with your clan and cats alike. Especially Orchidtail." She purred and let her life pour into his. It was a warm feeling tainted by an over-whelming desire to protect her kits. The love she felt for her mate and daughter and the pain when she couldn't save three of her four newborn kits. It was the warmth of all the sunny days of new-leaf and the memories of burying yourself into your mother's belly. So warm, so safe.

Hawkstar nodded to Icestar, dipping his head as he felt a wave of energy sweep over him as the Starclan leader spoke. He looked, blinking as he caught sight of Lilywing approaching. As her nose touched his, he let out a soft sigh when the images and soft feelings came over him. Much different life then his mentor gave him. He smiled as she mentioned Orchidtail, nodding as she stepped back. As she did so, his father, Blackpelt stepped forward. He touched noses with him, the two similiar cat's looking at each other for a moment. "With this life, I give you faith, to be able to have faith in Starclan and your fellow clanmates and even clan leaders." As the gruff voice of his father spoke, Stormheart felt a huge burden hit his shoulders then slowly disappear. The images of his father dying and being in Starclan, hating to leave him and Suntail behind, but learning to have faith in them. He blinked with relief as the image faded and his father retreated. Five down, four more to go.

Robinfur padded over to Hawkstar. His wide shoulders and large body made him a threatening character, but once you got to know him you would relise he wouldn't hurt a fly. He nodded to Blackpelt and took his place. His nose touched Hawkstar's and he gave Hawkstar his 6 life. "With this life I give you courage. Use it when facing hard times," he meowed. There were flashes of battle. Raised hackles, gleaming teeth, unsheathed claws, bristling fur and spilt blood. There was the intense fear that preceeds courage and the knowing that you'd faced what had scared you. There was triumph.

Hawkstar closed his eyes, getting used to the images and instensity of it. He took it in, his body not trembling as much when the images were painful. He smiled at Robinfur, nodding his thanks. Suntail brushed past Blackpelt, the two exchanging a look before she padded past Robinfur. She smiled brightly towards the other tom as she past him to touch noses with her son. Her nose was small and delicate as she touched Hawkstar's nose gently. "With this, your seventh life, I give you kindness. Use it towards those close to you, and even your enemies at times." she mewed quietly as images of small kits running around, seeing them grow up, and te warm scents of cats.

Morningstar walked over once more with another dim light. "Use this for sight. You shall see the doors of Starclan," she meowed. Then she handed the light to the new leader.

Hawkstar's eyes flashed for a moment as Morningstar walked over and presented his 8th life. Just one more and he was the true leader of Rainclan. He dipped his head to Morningstar, seeing his mentor step up for a second time and for the last time. "I present you with your 9th life, hope." Stormheart said, his voice loud and clear for all the cats to hear him. "Never lose hope, even when it seems there is none. And turn to those around you when you start to lose it. There is always hope, even in the smallest of places." he said, his eyes warm as he touched noses with Hawkstar one last time. Then he stepped back beside Morningstar.

Robinfur, Lilywing and Sunpaw dipped their heads in respect. "Hawkstar!" they called. A stocky cat padded through the mist. She had the same large and broad shape as another infamous cat; Burntstar. Her fur was a weak brown with ginger and black patches here and there. She dropped to her knees in front of Hawkstar and then rose again. "You do not know me Hawkstar but I know you. You were barely an apprentice when I lived but I knew you had the markings of a warrior. I am, was, an AquaCLan queen and the mother of Burntstar. I have much to share with you in the realm of dreaming. I wait for you," she meowed. Her voice was old and noble although she was young herself.

Hawkstar smiled to the Starclan cats with gratitude. He turned as he felt another presence, seeing a figure that looked like Burntstar. But it couldn't be. Burntstar was alive and in the forest. And wouldn't he go to the Land of No Stars? He felt himself relax as it appeared to be a she-cat that looked like Burntstar. He listened and dipped his head with respect as she finished. But he had one question. "May I ask, why me? Why not Aquaclan's leader, Jaystar?"

Morningstar dipped her head in respect. "Let Starclan guide with your life as you live! Let Starclan love and care for you!" she meowed. "Now, you shall wake up soon and you can go home," she purred.

"Jaystar is easily confused, he believes my son is only capable of evil," she meowed shaking her head. She stopped suddenly and fixed her amber eyes on Hawkstar's cold blue ones. "I have chosen you and hopefully you will know what to do," she meowed. She leant forward and pressed her head to his. There was an image of fighting cats, a heart breaking wail and a splash of blood. It vanished as quick as it came and Hawkstar was left at the edge of the moonpool.

"Thank you Icestar." Hawkstar said smiling as he dipped his head one last time to her. He turned as he heard the she-cat spoke again to answer his question before. He nodded, understanding why Jaystar would think that. He opened his mouth to ask one more question as she touched her head to his. He closed his mouth and his eyes as the images flooded into his mind. He opened his eyes, gasping for breath. No....was that really what was to be? Why the heartbreaking wail and the splash of blood.....and how will he know what's right? Sighing and getting to his feet, Hawkstar glanced up at the stars, then turned and bounded back towards Rainclan as the new leader.
