Maddie sat on her fence of her Twolegs nest. She watched the two cats talk. I wonder if they're mates? I wish I had a mate. She thought akwardly. She pushed her paws togetherand looked down at them. She frowned. She heard her Twoleg owner yell her name. She looked up and smiled. She pounced down from the fence and lapped up some milk that the Twoleg put out for her. She wagged her tail and lapped some more milk up.

"Sure. I've never been in a barn before." Hazel meowed. Her ears twitched. She glanced around. She saw a cat leap down from a nearby post. I wonder how long that cat has been there. She glanced back at Henry. "Henry, do you know any cats around here? Kittypets, rogues, or any other loners?"

Maddie licked her lips and her head lifted up. She walked over to a bush and took off a berry. "Jupiter," she told herself. She sniffed a flower. "Mouse-bile." she shrugged. "I wonder if those cats new I was sitting on my fence." she whispered to herself. She hopped back onto the fence and started to clean her chest. She then twisted around to lick her back. She heard a noise. She sniffed the air. "Rabbit." she meowed. She hopped down onto the other side of the wooden fence. She smiled and pounced. She didn't get the rabbit. But she got the rabbit's meal. "Ack! Twoleg food!" she hissed.

"No, but I think I heard one ovah dere. Dunno who. Should we takea look or just go to da bahn?" Henry lifted his head and sniffed the air in an attempt to identify strange cat. "We're downwin' from 'er. Smells like a...she-cat, prob'ly a kittehpet. With a hinta milk. Hmmm. Do ya wanna socialize wiff 'dis kittehpet or nawt?"

Hazel stood up. "I wanna' meet this kittypet." She meowed. She scented the air to see where somewhat of the exact location was. "Lets meet this cat." She padded over to where the sound and smell had come from. She stopped when a cat had come into view. "Who are you?" She examined the she-cat she had just spoke to. After a few moments, she glanced back to see if Henry was coming.

Henry trotted up next to Hazel and sat down. "Hey," he meowed calmly. He figured it would be best not to talk too much, remembering how Hazel had first been startled by his accent. Also, he didn't really have anything to say. He drew his paw across his face before replacing it on the ground.

"Ello," she meowed. Her head flew up to see cats saying hello to her. "Nice to meet you, I'm Maddie," the she-cat purred. "I like in this Twoleg nest here," she meowed, pointing with her nose. "I'm kind of a loner, I'm not quite the average kittypet, I know how to hunt and fish and all that stuff, but I like the Twoleg nest, and don't plan on leaving." she meowed. She then noticed she talked way to much. "Um, sorry, I'm really not this talkative." she murmured. "So, where do you two live?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.

"Mornin', Maddie," Henry meowed calmly. "I'm Henry and I live at da bahn, though I just moved 'ere from da city. I was a kittypet den but def'nitly nawt a nawmal one. I'd hafta catch my own mice an' there'd be a fight wiff a stray every othah night." He quickly dipped his head as a friendly gesture to the cat.

Maddie noticed the tom's accent. "I like your accent," she purred. "It's different, and I like that," she purred friendly. "But I have seen that barn, and a bunch of larger cats, looked very strong," she meowed sternly. "It's strange, they rome around and spat and hiss at eachother," she meowed softly.

He nodded. "Thanks," Henry meowed. "Where I come frawm, we all talk like dat. An' da cats fight a lot. It's nothin' new fawr me. An' aftah all, size ain't what matters--in da NYC or anywhere. See these scars on my knee?" He turned his foreleg so Maddie would be able to see them clearly. "Dey were frawm a fight wiff a dainty--at least, dat's how she looked--silvah dappled she-cat. An' I ran intah 'er mate once. It didn't turn out good." Henry lifted his head so that the light caught a scar under his right eye.

Maddie's eyes widened. "Wow!! That's horrible! I would've done the same, but I'm no fightin' cat," she meowed. She felt sorry for the tom, with his accent, and the scars. I wonder if any cat makes fun of him, if so, I would claw their eyes out. If I could. the she-cat thought.

Henry smirked. "It ain't hawrrible. It's just my way of life. Well, it ain't the way I live no more, but it was and it was great." He smiled wryly and shook his head. "Gah. I'll hafta do somethin' 'bout them fleas latah." Calmly, he exhaled and flexed his claws on the moist ground.

Maddie shrugged. "You have a point," she meowed. She listened to him talk until he finished his last words. "I know how to fix it! My Twolegs grow this nasty stuff that gets fleas and ticks away." she told him. She hopped over the wooden fence. She looked around till she saw a mouse-bile. She took it to Henry. "Here, put on the fur that gets ichy, but don't put it on your mouth. It tastes really bad." she meowed.

Henry picked up the bile-soaked moss in his paw and looked at it skeptically before dabbing some on his paw and drawing it across his ear. "Ugh. Smells awful. I'll get mawre latah when I 'ave some lunch. Hazel 'ere says dat ya can find da bile in da mouse."

"Hi Maddie. I'm Hazel and I have been living in a badgers' den all my life. Nothing really exciting except my parents had died crossing a Thunderpath, also my mate had died fighting a badger, it wasn't anywhere near the den I live in, and my son went off to live with AquaClan." Hazel had meowed when Henry started applying the mouse bile. "I wouldn't really call that exciting, I would actually call it horrible." She sighed thinking about her teared up family.

"Oh, and who were your sons?" she asked. "I used to have a friend named Sheena who lived here and companied me, then she went to Aquaclan, she said she's never coming back." she meowed sadly. "But I did run into her the other day and she said she was going to be kitting. She said her new name was Shadowsoul," she told the two cats.

"Mmmm." Henry gazed at his bile-covered paw in disgust before glancing back up at them. "Where I'm from, everyone's eithah ya enemy or ya ally. Ain't much room fawr friends, unless ya share ya apahtment wiff anothah cat." He tried wiping his paw off in the grass to no avail.

"Well, my son's original name was Dusky, but now, it's Soulstorm." Hazel meowed. "Never coming back? She must be happy in AquaClan then." When Henry started speaking she looked over at him. "Enemies, allies, and rarely friends? Wow. I wouldn't want that life at all, I'm not saying it's a bad one, it's just that it sounds like you don't have enough room for your family, you always have to be aware of your enemies, day in, and day out, nonstop."

Henry chuckled. "Well, everyone's out ta kill ya! How can ya be out ta make friends if dere's a whole city out dere waitin' ta see ya dead? If ya have family you're actually the best off 'cause dey'll stand by ya. An' if ya have a twoleg--like I did--den ya'll* be able ta stay inside durin' da day. Ya'll only hafta fight when sawmeone cawmes by."
ooc: *Ya'll as used here is a contraction of you will rather than the typical you all associated with the phrase. The former is pronounced with a shorter, sharper a than the latter of the two.
